Once a winner

Canal cleanup

Julie McGue is twice a daughter and now once a winner thanks to a Silver Award from the Nonfiction Authors Association. Her autobiography, “Twice a Daughter,” chronicles the adopted McGue’s journey to find her biological family. It is McGue’s first book and came out in May. After just a few months, she’s been high up the Amazon adoption best-sellers list and nabbed the Silver in the Nonfiction Authors Association’s Biography and Memoir category. McGue will sign books and meet new fans at the Suncoast Local Book Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 2 at Bookstore1, 12 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota.

Sitting pretty Even the furry family members got in on picture day July 25 on St. Armands Circle. It was Family Day, and the theme was family portraits, with an emphasis on the four-legged siblings. Family Day is part of the Circle’s Sol of the Circle summer events, which also include yoga and an evening of busking musicians. This was the second Family Day, the first having been a day with Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium. Next, there will be an Author’s Day on Aug. 29 where children’s authors will be embedded around the Circle, followed by an Arts Day on Sept. 26.
