Happy 104th, Reggie! At Regina (Reggie) Gurland’s age — 104 — the number of candles necessary to represent all her years probably wouldn’t fit on a birthday cake. So when Gurland was celebrated by her neighbors and family June 23, they spelled it out in strawberries instead. Gurland’s enduring era has caught the attention of others. In 2018, there were two articles written about her active lifestyle on the Mayo Clinic’s website. She’s lived in Sleepy Lagoon since 1976.

The Rotary Club of Longboat Key is looking “Fuller” for 2021. On June 22, the club welcomed its new president Bo Fuller, who will take over leadership duties from Brad Marner. The ceremonial passing of the gavel took place at Cafe L’Europe. Several Rotary members were recognized during the meeting for their “do goodery.” Terri Driver was named Rookie of the Year for her willingness to run the club’s Zoom meetings throughout 2020, Janet Shapiro earned honors for Excellence in Club Administration for her commitment to keeping the club on track, Joan Sherry was named Rotarian in Action, and Jack and Nancy Rozance were named Rotarians of the Year.
