Mote Sea Turtle Patrol volunteers Karen Petrin, Tammie Averso, Mike Herron and Melissa Herron found the first sea turtle nest of the season.

Turtles dig first nests of season Turtles got an early start on nesting April 30, one day before the official start of season, when they laid their first nest on Longboat Key. Nests were also found May 1, on Casey Key, and May 2, on Longboat Key.
