Towelgate doesn’t strike Longboat Key When the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau released a “Let’s Go, Pens” towel to cheer on the Pittsburgh Penguins instead of the local Tampa Bay Lightning last week, Bolts fans struck back with a #BoycottBradenton campaign on Twitter. But Bradenton isn’t the only community named on the towels; they also include Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key, plus the website BradentonGulfIslands.com. Fortunately, the barrier islands have shirked the controversy, and neither #BoycottLongboatKey nor #BoycottAnnaMariaIsland have taken off on Twitter. Alex Mahadevan
