The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and in this case, the award for Florida Bicycle Association’s 2020 Citizen Advocate of the Year. Longboat Key Bicycle Association President Howard Tessler recently learned he’d won the award. Tessler founded the LBKBA about three years ago to unite cyclists and share information. He said life in the bike lane has gotten better since. About a year ago, Tessler devised car hangers reminding vehicles parked in the bike lane that they couldn’t be there.

Another man’s treasure Although February is over, the “New to You” art sale at All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church will go on. During February, the church solicited donations of art from parishioners and displayed it to sell. The church brought in more than 80 pieces. Now it’s getting ready to put out a regular artist’s display, but there are still some pieces left for sale. “We hit our goal of $1,000, so it’s going to be over our goal,” the Rev. Dave Marshall said. “It will go to feed needy people in our community.” The church plans on doing the sale again in 2022.
