Luck on the links
Mondays are better with a little time on the links — and even better when you win. Residents of Beachplace got together for their 17th annual golf tournament on March 7, and Marshall Rose, Steve Hundgen, Stan Levine and David Sufrin went home with the trophy. Residents gathered before the round for a party, then set off to try their luck on the Links golf course at the Longboat Key Club. Before the top three teams came in, Jeff Gass got a win of his own by picking them in order and thus got to take home the Trifecta prize. The golf tournament also served as a fundraiser for All Faiths Food Bank.

It was a great day for the Great American Cleanup on March 19. More than 20 volunteers met at the beaches of Longboat Key to keep them beautiful, just like volunteers across the country met at other natural parks on the same day to accomplish the same thing. The cleanup was organized by Keep Manatee Beautiful, and volunteers met at the organization’s sign before heading off to their assigned stretches of sand. After all was said and done, Keep Manatee Beautiful’s Dawn DiFoggio said that the group collected 61 pounds of trash, which was actually less than previous years. On average, 10% of the collected refuse is recyclable.
