Normally at this time of year, Christ Church of Longboat Key would be ringing with the sound of bagpipes for the Kirkin O’ the Tartans service. The service usually draws several hundred worshippers, but this year it was attended only by those in the procession. “We hope that next year we can resume the full service,” the Rev. Norman Pritchard said. “It’s an important landmark for church and community, and it reminds us of the importance of affirming our loyalties and being willing, if necessary, to pay a price for the freedoms we enjoy.”

From the courts of the Longboat Key Public Tennis Center to the desks of Town Hall, every town employee got a special shoutout March 5, also known as Employee Appreciation Day. Every first Friday in March since 1995 has been set aside for appreciating employees, and the town of Longboat Key has celebrated the occasion for the past several years.
