No need for speed Longboaters generally don’t need to be told twice about something. That is why traffic Monday morning seemed to behave itself on a busy stretch of Gulf of Mexico Drive near Joan Durante Park, the Centre Shops and, oh yes, the Police Department. During about a 20-minute span around lunchtime Monday, not a single driver broke the posted 45 mph speed limit. The portable radar and display unit, purchased in 2019 with $6,300 in forfeiture funds, pops up around town from time to time to point out drivers’ speeds.

An aquarium divided Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium’s mammals were divided on their Super Bowl picks Feb. 2. Hugh the manatee and Pippi the river otter swam for the Kansas City Chiefs targets. Buffett the manatee and Jane the river otter picked the hometown Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What you should know before making a friendly bet (for entertainment porpoises only, of course) is that Buffett is 10-2 in selecting Super Bowl winners over 12 years.
