Feathered felons
Few things are as maddening as losing a brand-new, $3.50 golf ball. Wait, no. Make that: Few things are as maddening as watching a bird carry off a brand-new $3.50 golf ball. So when a Bay Isles resident reported hearing what she thought was gunfire to dissuade a feathered fairway felon, Longboat Key Club Golf Director Terry O’Hara said he surmised it was more likely the sound of a track-and-field starter’s pistol and not a Saturdaynight special. Birds have been known to scoop up a Titleist or Taylormade from time to time, but O’Hara said he’s never heard of a golfer resorting to that caliber of response. By the way, the Rules of Golf allow the replacement of a purloined ball from the scene of the avian crime at no penalty.
