These royals are up to the challenge Madison Olivieri and Jared Stancil (above) were crowned king and queen of the 23rd annual Buddy Walk on Oct. 26. With great power comes great responsibility, so the royal pair led about 500 walkers, plus two versions of SpiderMan, around the grounds of Bayside Church’s Lakewood Ranch campus. The Buddy Walk is hosted by Manasota BUDS, which stands for Bringing Up Down Syndrome. The organization is run by parents who volunteer their time. The group raised about $40,000 this year. Proceeds fund the following year’s programs for children and young adults with Down syndrome.

Walk for hope

A sea of pink washed over the parking lot in front of Del Webb’s clubhouse Oct. 26 for the fifth annual Del Webb Women’s Club Breast Cancer and Beyond Walk. Del Webb Women’s Club President Denise Langro and Treasurer Leigh Joyce (above) were thrilled to see another outpouring of support from the community for those who have cancer, those who have died as a result of cancer or those who know someone with cancer. The $21,235 the women’s club raised through the walk were donated to the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation.
