Living the dream in Lakewood Ranch The couple doesn’t actually take the water taxi to work, but the mere idea of it led Joe and Alyona Cileone (above) to leave Philadelphia and open a jewelry store at Waterside Place. “The idea of an outdoor mall was appealing to us, too,” Joe Cileone said. Cileone Jewelers has been quietly open on Lakefront Drive for a month but celebrated its grand opening with the Manatee Chamber of Commerce and a ribbon cutting on Feb. 9. The couple said the reception from customers has been “extremely positive” so far. “They love the merchandise we carry because it’s not something you see in every jewelry store,” Joe Cileone said. Joe Cileone said that while the store carries items you would find in another jewelry store, the one-of-a-kind pieces date from the Victorian era to modern day.

Smooth attitude leads to freebies Lakewood Ranch’s Ryan Rothhaar had a plan. Rothhaar, who is 12, loves Smoothie King, so he wanted to be one of the first 50 people in line at the grand opening of the Smoothie King on University Parkway and Lorraine Road on Feb. 3. Rothhaar and his dad, Mark Rothhaar (above with Ryan), arrived at Smoothie King by 8 a.m. They were first in line. His dedication to his favorite place to get smoothies paid off as being first in line meant he would receive seven free smoothies. To top it off, Ryan Rothhaar won a raffle for a year of free smoothies. He’s been to Smoothie King every day since Feb. 3.
