Magical morning for mom at UTC A mom enjoying a stage show July 21 at The Mall at UTC suddenly became part of the Summer Fun Club’s magic show. River Club’s Susan Traver was surprised when she was invited on the stage with her 5-year-old son Blake and 7-year-old daughter Penny Traver. Apollo Beach-based performer Eddie Steiner (above with Susan Traver) then made her wedding ring vanish, before he produced a burst of multicolored handkerchiefs, and revealed the ring inside. “I was scared he was not going to get it back,” Penny Traver said. “He did a good job,” said Susan Traver, whose husband is Aaron Traver. “He had me stumped. I think I had a good time.” The siblings were attending the show with their friend, 7-year-old Colette Petty, and her mother, Melanie Hayes.

Music lessons to pull heartstrings While there are no strings attached with this Lakewood Ranch club, a group of musicians in Aloha Ukulele were practicing hard for an Aug. 25 recital at the Grand Living, a senior living and assisted living facility. “It’s a fun instrument,” River Strand’s Sue Brady said. “If you’re not musically inclined, you can still play and enjoy it. You don’t have to be perfect. It’s a fun sound. It’s a beautiful environment, you meet lots of great new people, and it stimulates your mind.” Harmony’s Alice Bauman, an organizer of the group, said Aloha Ukulele started playing in 2021 in James L. Patton Park, but the weather grew too hot. Due to the help of Keith Pandeloglou and Chris McComas of Lakewood Ranch Community Activities, they were able to find their current spot at Town Hall North.
