Color my world in Waterside Carol Botts said she loves things that are visually appealing, so she was right at home on the The Green at Waterside Place. Botts was tossing colorful bocce balls during recreational league play and enjoying every moment. “I always enjoy color in the things that I do,” she said. Botts and her husband, Ron, live in the Shoreview community and drive their golf cart each Thursday to the field bocce event hosted by Lakewood Ranch Community Activities. “It’s fun; anybody can tell you,” Carol Botts said. “It’s a little competition, and it’s an opportunity to socialize and exercise. Whenever we have an opportunity to do something here (at Waterside Place), we take advantage of it.” Chris McComas of MVP Sports and Social introduced the league and runs it for Lakewood Ranch Community Activities.

Students cook up monstrous donation Robert Sloman, assistant principal at Carlos E. Haile Middle School, wasn’t quite himself May 9. Sloman dressed as Shrek from the Dreamworks movie to make and serve pancakes to Katelyn Reyes’ technology class as a reward for collecting 720 food items in a week for the school’s Meals on Wheels Plus of Manatee food drive. Reyes’ class chose Sloman’s costume because the students collected the most food items. Haile Middle School students collected more than 2,500 items to donate.
