That’s her story During a special story time at the Braden River Library Aug. 23, 10-year-old Xander DeGendice, a student at Tara Elementary School, learned you can’t duck responsibilities. DeGendice was one of the children who listened as Manatee County Commissioner Vanessa Baugh (above with DeGendice) read one of her favorite books “Duck for President.” Baugh said the book gives a good idea on what it’s like to be a commissioner or in any elected position.

High hopes for tea Peridia Golf and Country Club Manager Tom Donato (above) grew nearly 2 feet Aug. 24. Organizers of Peridia’s High Tea and Trunk Show, which featured a hat contest, roped Donato into the spotlight and planted a top hat on his head. “It’s beautiful,” the 5-foot, 4-inch Donato said with a chuckle. “It made me feel 7 feet tall.”
