For Robert E. Willis Elementary student Tyson Widmer, the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser in May for the American Heart Association came close to his heart. “My Nino (grandmother) had three open-heart surgeries, and my grandpa Don has had a triple bypass surgery,” Widmer said. “Raising money helps people with heart problems, like them.” The rising second-grade student teamed up with his two grandmothers, parents and family friends to raise more than $1,000 — more than any other Willis student.

Greene first applied for the Manatee County School District superintendent position in 2013. The Manatee County School Board hired Rick Mills, and Greene accepted the position of deputy superintendent of instruction for the district. Now, Greene is in the superintendent role she originally

First Watch moves into first place

Diana Greene has 28 years of experience in education. She began her career as an elementary school teacher.

From humble beginnings in 1983, First Watch has a new identity: largest breakfast-brunch-lunch restaurant chain in the country. The company, with corporate headquarters in a University Park office complex, acquired Centennial, Colo.-based The Egg & I Restaurants, in a deal announced May 27.
