On par to learn Summerfield’s Joe Arena stood to the side as his 8-year-old grandson, Joey, held a golf club and prepared to hit a shot at no particular target. In golf-course-rich Lakewood Ranch, the lesson was taking place June 4 at Greenbrook Adventure Park. It was Joey’s first lesson, and he was being told to flex his knees and to swing easy. “I taught all my children how to golf, so now I’m doing the same thing with my grandson,” Joe Arena said. “When he starts to hit the ball more, I’ll take him to the golf course.”

Birthday bash From playing on the see-saw to clambering through the jungle gym to using his balloons as personal punching bags, Jayden Wilson (above) made the most of his second birthday party June 7 at Summerfield Park. Wilson’s family moved to Myakka City about 10 months ago. Wilson’s parents, Anthony and Jayme, said they chose to celebrate his birthday at the park because it provided social opportunities. “We’re still new to the area, so there haven’t been many friends for him right away,” Anthony Wilson said. “You come out here? Instant kids.”
