Coasting to end of school year Ella Dyer, a fifth grader at Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary in Lakewood Ranch, capped her school year April 13 with a school trip to Busch Gardens. Dyer, along with the rest of the fifth grade, enjoyed several roller coasters and other activities at Busch Gardens as the class celebrated its final days of elementary school before moving to middle school. Dyer took several photos throughout the day, including a selfie with her friend Stella Guido to commemorate the trip. “The rides were very thrilling, and it was most fun being with all my friends,” Dyer said.

Esplanade offers foster children uplifting gift About 150 Esplanade residents turned out for an April 12 packing party and helped fill backpacks for children in the foster care system at this year’s Esplanade Gives Back event. The annual event was accomplished through a partnership with the charity Comfort Cases. “To say that I am proud of what the Esplanade community has done to surpass our goal of 1,000 cases for Comfort Cases is an understatement,” said Rob Commissar, Esplanade’s lifestyle director. Comfort Cases CEO Rob Scheer (above) thanked the Esplanade community and accepted the gifts, which came to 1,250 backpacks and $45,000. Scheer was a foster child himself and homeless at the age of 18.
