Protest hopes for powerful impact Approximately 15 people, including Myakka City’s Kathy Crowley (above), gathered Feb. 27 at the intersection of Dam Road and State Road 64 to protest a proposed development that will be considered near that location at a Manatee County land use meeting March 3. Several of those protesting were members of the Preserve Our Wildlife, Environment, and Resources group. County commissioners will vote on rezoning a 310.25acre parcel that runs north of S.R. 64 and east of 172nd Street East. It would allow for a 706-unit residential subdivision and 17,750 square feet of medical office uses to be built by Neal Communities. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the Manatee County Administration Building, Patricia M. Glass Chambers, 1112 Manatee Ave., Bradenton. The complete agenda is available at MyManatee.org.

A two-riffic Twosday Feb. 22 was unlike any other Tuesday. The date, 2/22/22, is a palindrome that reads the same forwards and backwards, all comprised of the same number. So William H. Bashaw Elementary School’s teachers, students and staff decided to celebrate the occurrence that has become known as “Twosday” by dressing in tennis shoes, tutus and ties. Assistant Principal Terra Brown (above) sported an orange tutu with her black Converse tennis shoes and a shirt (oops, no tie) commemorating the date.
