Ax game lands right on target Bradenton 13-year-old Brandon Gallaway wanted a competitive edge before he began a round of miniature golf at The Fish Hole. So, on St. Patrick’s Day during a block party at Main Street at Lakewood Ranch, he found a different kind of sport: ax throwing. Gallaway tested his skill at the Grover’s Axe game. “It was pretty weird,” he said. “It was heavier on the end, so I had to lean back a little more and aim higher.” He managed to land the ax near the center of the target. Could ax throwing be his next sport? “I don’t know,” he said. “It was fun, though.”

Tacky tourists descend on Nolan Middle Every March, tourists flock to Florida for spring break. R. Dan Nolan Middle School teachers and students decided to get into the spirit of spring break March 9 by dressing as tourists for Tacky Tourist Day. The School District of Manatee County’s spring break was March 14-18. Sophie Finnegan (above), a seventh grader, put on a Hawaiian shirt, khaki pants and a pink lei for the occasion. “I thought it was cool because I normally don’t dress like this, and this shirt is comfortable,” Finnegan said.
