Arya Roshka, 3, boards the ambulance for a lesson from her dad, Chris Roshka.

View from the driver’s seat Manatee County paramedic Chris Roshka thought he would bring his kids to work Feb. 22, but he had an important purpose in mind. Roshka, who works out of the Manatee County EMS Lakewood Ranch station, wants his kids, 4-year-old Jace and 3-year-old Arya, to not be overwhelmed in case of an emergency when an ambulance might need to show up at the scene. “Heaven forbid they ever need one, but hopefully they won’t be as nervous if they look back and remember being there with me,” Roshka said. “Maybe they will want to one day follow and do what I do, but regardless, I wanted them to enjoy the experience and maybe see why I’ve had to miss holidays and events.” Roshka let Jace and Arya sit in the driver’s seat. “I hope they remember this as a good experience,” he said.

Love letters with class In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Courtney Boswell, a third grade teacher at Robert E. Willis Elementary School, had her students write a love letter. The love letter wasn’t to a friend, a family member or a loved one, but rather to Willis Elementary. Third grader Aubri Darpino (above) sent love to her school because it keeps her friends safe. “I remember I was scared of you until I knew I could trust you,” Darpino wrote in the letter.
