Elks’ food truck rolls forward For Lakewood Ranch Elks members Tony DeVita and Leo Lozeau (above), spending the day at the special Stuff the Truck event at the lodge collecting food for children in need wasn’t anything out of the ordinary. The pair do so on a regular basis for the Elks Feeding Empty Little Tummies program, which provides food for children ages 5-12. However, on Nov. 20, the Elks were making a special push to collect food that will be delivered by EFELT to 11 schools for approximately 500 children per week. “(The Elks) has been doing this for 11 years,” DeVita said. “On Wednesdays, we get all the food ready. Then volunteers come in, package the food and deliver it to the schools on Fridays. I’ve been doing this for five years, and Leo has been doing it for seven years.” The food is donated by Elks and nonmembers. DeVita said the Elks also gets grants to help with the effort.

Students in sync at Braden River In his third performance of the night, Ezekiel Lopez (above), a sophomore at Braden River High School, had to lip sync “Bohemian Rhapsody” against 1KDU, a group of nine students. Lopez, the eventual champion, and 1KDU were participating in the school’s annual lip sync battle Nov. 17 where they performed along with five other acts. The audience had voted Lopez and 1KDU into the top two, where they gave it their all while sharing a split stage to perform the Queen classic. “I felt like the underdog because I was one person going up against a group of nine singing a song with at least five parts,” Lopez said. “It felt amazing (to win).”
