Tara resident Marshall Lewis decided to enjoy the morning of Nov. 3 with a long bicycle ride. But when he got to the Lakewood Ranch Town Hall building, it was time to give his “passenger” a break. Lewis’ passenger was a 4-year-old Scottish terrier named Sadie, who was riding along comfortably in a shaded cart hitched to the back of Lewis’ bike. Lewis said he first began carting his dog Shelby, another Scottish terrier, and has kept it alive with Sadie. “We do this at least two times a week,” Lewis said while Sadie cooled off with a roll in the grass under the trees. “We love to ride these neighborhoods. Between Sadie and Shelby, we have logged over 2,000 miles. These are very nice areas to ride in, and Sadie loves it. She jumps in eagerly every time.” Less than a minute later, Sadie drank some water from a bottle and jumped back in her cart, ready to hit the road again.

Lily Bertrand’s favorite part of the school day at Gilbert W. McNeal Elementary School is recess. Bertrand, a fifth grader, along with her brother, Hunter, who is a fourth grader, had extra recess Nov. 12 when they attended McNeal’s Recess After Dark. “I’m excited to play with my friends and play the games,” Lily said. The siblings put glow sticks on and joined their classmates, who were playing games including ring toss and Twister. The night also included food trucks, a dance party and playground activities.
