Paint the town Lakewood Ranch Community Activities is hosting a merchant window painting contest in preparation for the 10th anniversary of Boofest. Paint Day will be held 10 a.m. Oct. 22 on Lakewood Main Street. Merchants can paint their own window or donate their window to a local art student. The contest is seeking high school students to participate. For entry information and rules, go to lwrcac.com.

Life sentence East County’s Fred and Barb Smith celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary in prisoner’s garb, and the East County Observer was there as a witness. The couple renewed their vows Sept. 19 while locked in Cell Block A of Alcatraz while visiting San Francisco. Friend Kevin Neuer performed the ceremony.
