U.S. Bankruptcy Judge K. Rodney May will review a proposed settlement and Klauber Family Consulting Agreement Oct. 10, in his Tampa-based U.S. Bankruptcy Middle District of Florida courtroom. But, he’ll also review two objections to that settlement, which offers money to longtime
Colony owner Dr. Murray “Murf” Klauber and a U.S. bankruptcy trustee, but leaves out Colony Lender LLC, the bankruptcy case’s largest creditor. If May approves the tentative settlement, Klauber would sign over his property that still has liens on it from Colony Lender to the Colony Beach & Tennis Re-

ULI: impact assessments
Officials from three communities offer insight on the impact of the Urban Land Institute study and how it affected where they live. The Urban Land Institute has studied cities as large as Moscow, Chicago and Hong Kong. But what kind of impact will the upcoming ULI visit and subsequent study have on the future of a community like Longboat Key? To assess the potential impact of the study, the Longboat Observer spoke with representatives of three communities — each of which has populations of 26,000 or less and has its own unique character. The three communities have undergone similar ULI studies, and officials from the communities discussed the impact the report had and how they’re implementing the panels’ recommendations. ULI will conduct its $125,000 study on Longboat Key from Oct. 21 through Oct. 25.

+ Missing swan resurfaces Unofficial Harbourside swan keeper David Novak feared the worst when an English mute swan outfitted with a green band for identification purposes disappeared last week. Fortunately, this isn’t a time for swan songs. Novak spotted the cygnet Friday morning, after it apparently came out of hiding while its parents were foraging. The young swan had vanished shortly after undergoing banding and veterinary treatment last weekend.
