OUR TOWN + Town unveils new iPoc app Can I build that? That’s the question the town gets every day, but now there’s an app for that. The town unveiled the iPoc, a new iPhone/ iPad app to help owners sift through the challenges they’ll face should they choose to redevelop their properties. The app will ring in approval if the redevelopment project is expected to generate five or fewer complaints during the public comments section of a Longboat Key Town Commission meeting; sound a warning alarm if it will likely require three or more four-hour public hearings; and deliver three low-wattage shocks if it will land you in court. Type the project in the field that says “I want to” and search: Examples: iPoc response I want to … Ring of Replace a doorknob handle approval Build a new Warning grocery store Spend $400 million Shock to redevelop a resort therapy

+ Car carrier drivers: Hand over your Key Car carriers will have to turn their keys over to Longboat. The Longboat Key Town Commission voted to ban car carriers from the Key as the result of the latest bi-monthly Gulf of Mexico Drive traffic feasibility study. The $140,000 study found the trucks frequently cause traffic jams and reduce visibility along Gulf of Mexico Drive. Snowbirds will have two options for dropping off their vehicles: The roundabout on Bradenton Beach or St. Armands Circle.

COLONY TO BE

DEMOLISHED The town of Longboat Key has approved a special-use permit to allow a monster-truck show to demolish the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort.

It has taken seven years and counting for the Colony Beach & Tennis Resort disputes to arise and the resort to close and fall into disrepair. But it’s going to take less than 15 minutes for the place to come tumbling down. A special meeting was held last week on Longboat Key, in which more than 80% of Colony Beach & Tennis Resort units owners approved a complete teardown of the property Thursday, April 1. Longtime Colony Beach & Tennis Resort owner Dr. Murray “Murf” Klauber pitched the idea to the unit owners, even though the owners haven’t picked a development company yet to rebuild the property. The reason a teardown was approved so quickly? Klauber has persuaded the 2013 Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam tour to make a stop at the Colony property on its way to a scheduled tour date in Miami. “We can have the whole place torn down in minutes by selling an exclusive monster-truck show that will demolish the Colony property,” Klauber said. “The

money we raise will be used by unit owners to help pay a new developer the costs for fractional ownership in a new and improved elegant Colony.” Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam came to Raymond James Sta-

reservations for seats that start at $150 and rise to $500 per seat. For $500, attendees get to sit with Klauber at the top of his shuttered

Tower to top off Publix sculpture The 150-foot ‘Flower Fiesta’ cell tower promises to improve cellular service for the southern half of the Key. Talking on a cell phone is about to become a pleasure on Longboat Key. That’s because later this week, contractors will install the final piece of the new “Flower Fiesta” sculpture: a 150-foot cellular tower in the design of the sculpture’s tall green silhouettes that will be called

the Flower Fiesta Greenwise Tower. The tower will also advertise special Publix Greenwise products on sale each week at the top of the silhouettes in a red digital sign, with digits large enough for condo owners to see from their condo towers. Last year, Publix proceeded through the planning processes at

lightning pace before tearing down its old location and rebuilding a new 49,000-square-foot store in just eight months. The store opened its doors at 8 a.m. on a chilly Thursday morning in December to applause from
