Nassau County Parties Announce 2020 Slate

The Nassau Democrats and Republicans held Designating Conventions for the 2020 slate of candidates.

Long Island Republican leaders are backing Andrew Garbarino as their candidate to run for 2nd Congressional District seat vacated by Peter King. Nassau Republican Chairman Joseph Cairo said, ”Andrew Garbarino has the credentials, experience and priorities to be the next congressman in the second district.” And “his Islip base is very much a swing area" in the congressional district. Garbrino has been the Assemblyman representing the 7th District since 2012. Mike LiPetri, Republican Assemblyman from District 9, will be challenging Garbarino in the primary.

Meanwhile, the Nassau Democrats nominated former Babylon Town Councilwoman Jackie Gordon to vie for the 2nd Congressional District seat hoping turn the seat from red to blue.

Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R) will once again run for the 14th Assembly District seat. McDonough was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2002. Challenging McDonough is Kevin Gorman (D). Gorman, of Wantagh has previously run unsuccessfully for the positions of supervisor, clerk and state assembly.

Dennis Dunne, Sr.(R), Town Councilman district 6 served on the Nassau County Legislature for 22 years and was nominated by the Nassau GOP to run against incumbent Senator Kevin Thomas (D) SD 6.

Senator John Brooks (D) representing District 8 is serving his second term, and will be challenged by Nicholas La Lota designated by the Nassau and Suffolk Republican and Conservative Committees to be their candidate for NYS Senate (SD-8).
