I n effort to raise billions in revenue for public transit projects and sig nificantly decrease traffic into Manhattan, the MTA releases details on the proposed Congestion Pricing. Nassau County Legislator Steve Rhoads addresses his disapproval of the Congestion Pricing in a press confer ence and asks Nassau County residents to get informed on what Congestion Pricing means and voice their opinion. Legislator Rhoads told the crowd that Congestion Pricing is disguised as a way to reduce environmental impacts and cars on the roads, but in reality it is sim ply a $1 billion dollar a year tax directly on the backs of suburban commuters. Nassau County is already one of the highest taxed counties in the nation and with inflation and gas prices continuing to soar, we are now being taxed to go to work, to medical appointments or even just enjoy a day with family and friends in New York City. The tolls could be as high as $34.50 per day (for non E-ZPass holders) during peak hours, so for the average person who goes to the office 5 days a week, you can expect to pay over $800 a month just to go to work. This is ridicu lous. Residents are continually being taxed out of New York. Congestion Pric ing is just a tax on suburban commut ers.Legislator Steve Rhoads invites resi dents with questions to call his office at 516-571-6219. Look for an online peti tion calling for an immediate elimina tion of this new tax. It will be up on the Nassau County website eos/610299457111266com/107688205330158/vidRhoadsgov//515/District-19---Steven-D-https://www.nassaucountyny.soon.Viewthepressconferenceat:https://www.facebook. Assemblyman Dave Mc Donough (R,CI -Mer rick) representing the 14th Assembly District will host his annual School Supply Drive through Tues day, September 6. As the cost of living continues to rise and inflation destroys the wallets of average New Yorkers, we must come to gether as a community to assist struggling families. “A child’s success is ev eryone else’s success,” said McDonough. “No kid should at tend school without the essential sup plies they need. Pleas join me in this effort to help children facing tough fi nancial issues at home.” Donations can be dropped off at McDonough’s district office at 404 Bedford Avenue, Bellmore between 10am and 4pm, Monday through Fri day up to September 6.

What You Need to Know About Life-Saving COVID-19 Treatments

• Get informed. The Food and Drug Administration has authorized certain antiviral medications and monoclonal antibodies. Antivirals and monoclonal antibodies can help your immune sys tem fight off the coronavirus infection, with a goal of preventing you from be coming seriously ill. Antivirals target certain parts of the virus to stop it from replicating, while monoclonal antibod ies help the immune system better rec ognize and stop the infection. In both cases, medications need to be pre scribed by a healthcare provider and started as soon as possible after diagno sis to be effective.

• Be your own advocate. Many pa tients have discovered firsthand that persistence can be necessary when it comes to getting treatment for COVID-19. When Jill Hein’s 83-year-old father tested positive, his primary care provider told him he wasn’t very sick and to go home and call if he got any sicker.“When this information was relayed back to me, I objected and asked that Dad follow up with his pulmonologist immediately. He didn’t want to, insist ing that his primary care provider said he was doing okay. It wasn’t until I told Mom, ‘This can kill him,’ that I got through to them and she called his pul monologist for a second opinion. With in four hours of having the infusion, Dad felt himself getting better. Over the next couple days, he continued to im prove at home. Thankfully, he fully re covered,” says Hein. For more information about treat ment options, as well as COVID-19 care tips, visit lung.org/treating-covid. With people taking fewer precautions as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, the virus is spreading at a high rate. The good news is that there are treatments available for the most vulnerable among us to help avoid severe illness and hos pitalization. ~ StatePoint

While stopping the spread of COVID-19 is the goal, the reality is that every day, more people contract the disease. For this reason, it’s important to be aware of available treat ment options. The Treating COVID-19 Campaign, which was developed independently by the American Lung Association, with grant support from Regeneron and GSK, is sharing some important insights into outpatient treatment options: • Know your risk. It’s important to know if you’re at high risk for severe ill ness from COVID-19, as this can deter mine what treatments are available to you. There are many factors that may put you in the “high risk” category, in cluding if you’re 65 and older, you smoke cigarettes, you have a chronic lung disease, are immunocompro mised, or are living with certain medical conditions, including chronic lung dis ease, heart disease, diabetes and chron ic kidney disease. Individuals who are overweight or pregnant also fall in the high-risk category. You can see a full list at •Lung.org/covid-19.Test,andthentreat, at onset of symptoms. Experiencing symptoms that may be COVID-19? Get tested right away. If you test positive and are high risk, speak with your healthcare provid er promptly about treatment options that may help prevent severe illness and reduce the risk of hospitalization. Cur rently available treatments include anti virals or monoclonal antibody treat ments (mAbs). Your healthcare provider can help you determine the best course of treatment for you, which needs to start as soon as possible to help prevent possible progression of severe illness.

SUMMER SIPS

• Salty cheeses pair especially well with sweet wines, as the saltiness brings out the sweetness even more.

TAKE A FLIGHT

It’s the time of year for backyard bash es with friends and family. The best part about being the host? Creating relaxing summer vibes with great food andJoewine.Welch and Zach Feinberg, good friends and co-founders of In Good Taste, a new kind of winery on a mission to make wine more accessible and less intimidating for the everyday drinker, offer these backyard party tips for warm weather fun:

When pairing wine and cheese, an easy place to start is by looking for cheese from the same region where the grape first originated. While this works in most cases, these quick, additional rules that look at age, depth and complexity can help you take pairing a step further:

• Young and soft cheeses with silky textures and creamy body pair especial ly well with young and lively wines full of fruit, good acidity and spirited aro mas.•To stand up to the richness and in many cases, sharpness of aged cheeses full of rich, fatty and savory flavor, choose old, bold and rich wines with good tannins that leave a tacky feeling on your tongue.

10 Your NewsMag 2022 | Vol 8 N o 10ENTERTAINMENT

The best wines for summer are re freshing and feature high acidity, a light-to-medium body, and a dry fla vor leading to a crisp finish. Think whites, rosés and light-bodied reds. To invigorate your guests and en hance the subtle tasting notes of these wines, serve them at a slight chill. Be sure to consider your glass ware, too. “Stemmed glassware keeps warm hands off cold wines and helps maintain the right temperature for longer,” says Welch.

Anyone who has enjoyed a thought ful wine flight knows that variety is the spice of life. Whether you’re throwing the party yourself or need the perfect hostess gift, consid er In Good Taste’s flights, which are offered at every price point in the brand’s patented 187 milliliter mini bottles, giving hosts the ability to put eight tastingforniavibeslight, deliveringwinesdifferentonice.ReallyonthosesummeryistheirCaliWineMixerflight, which includes all the greats, including Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, along with some surprises. The brand makes snacks easy for hosts too, offering a premium selection of meat and cheese with Antonelli’s Cheese Shop’s careful ly curated Cheese Meats Treats tray. To shop flights and gifts, book a virtual or in-person wine tasting with an expert, or for additional wine 101, visit in gooodtaste.com.“Youdon’tneed to be a sommelier to get wine right at your backyard gather ings and other events,” says Feinberg. “Wine is for anybody who enjoys it, and with a little bit of know-how, this aspect of summer hosting can be fun, not stressful.” ~StatePoint
