Rattrapante The rattrapante is one of the most sophisticated complications in all of watchmaking. Put simply, with two superimposed central chronograph hands, it can measure two elapsed times simultaneously. The rattrapante feature in the new Breitling Navitimer 1 B03 Rattrapante 45 Boutique Edition is very special indeed with some additional details that will make this watch a highly sought-after timepiece. This instant collector’s item will be issued in a limited edition of 250 pieces and available exclusively from Breitling’s boutiques around the world. The Navitimer 1 B03 Rattrapante 45 Boutique Edition is as aesthetically impressive as it is technically sophisticated. Housed in a big, bold 45-mm stainless-steel case, it is distinguished by a Stratos Gray dial, while its hour markers and hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova®, which guarantees legibility in all lighting conditions. This eye-catching timepiece features a bidirectional rotating bezel with the circular slide rule long associated with Breitling’s Navitimer watches. It offers another exquisite detail. Normally, a Breitling Navitimer features a stylized B logo with an anchor symbol adorning the base of the chronograph hands. But in this case, there is a subtle refinement, with the logo divided between two hands. The B is on the red chronograph hand, while the anchor sits on the split-second hand. As a result, the two elements of the logo are separated when the split-second hand is stopped and reform when the hands realign. The story inside the case is every bit as compelling. The watch is powered by a Breitling Manufacture Caliber B03, which has a power reserve of at least 70 hours and is a COSC-certified chronometer. You could take it off after work on Friday (not that you would want to) and it would still be ready for action on

Monday morning. The split-second pusher, which is housed in the 3 o’clock crown, serves to stop and restart the split-second hand as often as desired during a timing operation, allowing the wearer to measure split times or compare the results of several competitors. Few watch brands have their own mechanical chronograph movements. Fewer still also offer a proprietary split-second movement developed and produced in-house. With the launch of the Breitling Manufacture Caliber B03, Breitling once again confirms its leading role in the field of mechanical chronographs. With its two superimposed central chronograph hands, one of which can be stopped to measure an intermediate (split) time before catching up (rattraper in French) with the other, the splitsecond chronograph is considered one of the most challenging watchmaking mechanisms to create. Accordingly, this “grand complication” is generally produced in small series and requires watchmakers to perform a lengthy process of adjustment and rating (correcting the clearance of the split-second wheel and pinion, adapting the tension of the springs, adjusting the degree of penetration of the clamps, etc.). In developing its own split-second chronograph movement, based on its successful Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, Breitling adopted an innovative approach to the rattrapante, focusing on sturdiness, precision, and reliability while developing a system that ensures optimal performance with a minimum number of components. In fact, the split-second mechanism features just 28 parts. In the process, Breitling was also able to eliminate the lengthy adjustment period. Finding a simple and effective solution to a complicated problem took several years of research and testing but the result leaves nothing to be desired.

SEEING RED Alain Prost is an artist in the realm of speed, just as Richard Mille is an artist of timekeeping. The collaboration between the brand and the four-time Formula 1 World Champion, co-founder of the Renault e.dams team is founded on unshakable loyalty. This time, a shared interest in cycling provided inspiration. Much like the aeronautics and automotive industries, where R&D play an essential role, cycling is constantly evolving from a technical perspective. As for the object of their shared labours? That would be the all new RM70-01 calibre tourbillon, featuring an unprecedented odometer.

Following extensive discussions with Alain Prost, as well as other cyclists, Richard Mille realised that many of them would be hard pressed to say how many kilometres they’d ridden since the beginning of the season. The RM 70-01’s never-before-seen totaliser remedies this by simply displaying the overall distance travelled. The pusher at 2 o’clock can select any of the 5 rollers of the odometer, whose readout is visible in a titanium window. Once a roller selected, pressing the pusher located at 10 o’clock advances the roller by one. The only effort required of the user is to add the day’s distance to the prior total. The mechanism itself, however, is much more complicated. The first pusher activates selection of a roller, one of the five. Execution is confirmed by perfect alignment of the two yellow arrows. The second pusher incrementally rotates the r o l l e r,

which automatically blocks, thanks to the carry mechanism. To avoid accidental manipulations, the complication has been fitted with a neutral position (N). Thanks to a spring-lock, the selection fork will be lined up straight, with an arrow at 2 o’clock pointing to N as visual confirmation that the mechanism is locked. Equipped with a 70-hour power-reserve, visible at 5 o’clock thanks to an indicator powered by a planetary differential, this manual winding tourbillon calibre sports a baseplate and bridges in grade 5 titanium. Titanium’s extreme stiffness enables the calibre to withstand the roughest of trails with ease. Nods to the realm of cycling abound, from the titanium Allen screws that fix the bridges, to the barrel ratchet, which recalls the design of forged wheel spokes, to say nothing of the tourbillon cage and dynamometric crown, evocative of a bicycle’s pedal. The beautifully finished movement possesses tremendous, almost vertiginous depth. Both its vertical architecture - which lines up the barrel and tourbillon along a single axis - and its compact size were essential because of how much space the odometer occupies within the case. And what a case it is! Machined out of Carbon TPT®, it perfectly combines tonneau, rectangular and asymmetrical shapes. Taut and curved, its unique lines not only ensure the greatest possible comfort when worn on the right wrist, but also optimised legibility of the time when gripping a cycle’s handlebars. As always at Richard Mille, function dictates form. In order that they may fully enjoy the dynamic and mechanical qualities of the RM 70-01, each buyer will receive as a gift their very own bespoke road cycle. Developed by Alain Prost and Richard Mille in partnership with the prestigious Italian bikemaker Colnago, these individually numbered bicycles are made by hand and painted in the watchmaking brand’s colours. Limited to just 30 pieces.

WATCHES ArtyA - Son of Gears Star The openworked movement on this watch is designed to represent the 10 rays of the star, with the colour matching the lateral inserts of the case and the stitching on the leather strap. A wide choice of colour options are available, but ArtyA has placed a limited production number of just 99 pieces in each colour. There are five versions of the watch, depending on colour, case options and even a diamond-set option, in limited editions or unique pieces. ArtyA has been making openworked watches since 2009 and this is the second in a series using the same movement, a modified Unitas calibre. The first was Shams, which means “sun” in Arabic, launched in 2015. The new one is based on a star motif, keeping with the heavenly bodies theme. The 3rd is an Edelweiss in a tonneau case.

Then you decide what to laser etch on the case locker and the side plate: your name, your sign, your code, the love of your life? One more click, the order loads directly. Four months later, your perfect hand-built bespoke masterwork arrives. “The FreakIT app pushes bespoke personalization to the extreme,” said Patrick Pruniaux, Chief Executive Officer of Ulysse Nardin. “It is unprecedented in the watch world, which until now was far behind the car industry, where brands such as Rolls Royce, Ferrari and Bentley provide customers with a full set of bespoke options. Now in-store Ulysse Nardin customers, with a few swipes and taps, can create their own, one-of-a-kind Freak Vision - one that fully expresses their individuality. Bespoke is the defining element of high-end luxury. Affluent buyers, especially haute horlogerie collectors and millennials, place a strong premium on more emotional and personal priorities. FreakIT allows these individuals to create watches as unique as they are.” With FreakIT, Ulysse Nardin takes customization to a new level. A fixed package price of 10,000 CHF no matter how many bespoke options you personalize, the added price remains the same, for an all-in total of 105,000 CHF.

Ulysse Nardin - FreakIT Freak Vision just became truly visionary. The new FreakIT app by Ulysse Nardin takes Freak Vision to another level of uniqueness and self-expression. In all, 22 different watch components and movement parts can be tricked out and tweaked to your heart’s desire. FreakIT works in-store (at selected boutiques and retailers only) on the iPad. You choose what you want for the 22 customizable Freak Vision components. Big Bang Unico Red Magic After Hublot’s invention in 2011, Magic Gold, the world’s most scratch resistant 18K carat Gold, thanks to an alloy between boron carbide (ceramic) and 24K carat Gold, the Swiss watchmaking brand has devoted its innovative approach to ceramic. By creating a new material - the first vibrantly coloured ceramic - Hublot has once again used its limitless imagination to achieve a world’s first. Exclusively designed and produced in-house, in the Hublot Research & Development department, this invention has been patented. A triple tour de force, the coloured ceramic invented by Hublot is innovative both in terms of the material itself, and the manufacturing process. In addition to the vibrant colour it is also harder than conventional ceramics. The Hublot R&D department and Metallurgy & Materials laboratory have succeeded in inventing a magic formula that allows the creation of vibrantly coloured ceramics. This has previously not been done in industries using technical and aesthetic ceramics. In addition, Hublot has refined all the procedures necessary to produce every component of the watch case from this special material. In total, it took Hublot four years to master this discovery and develop it from initial idea to its industrialisation. The invention is 100% Hublot and the expertise has been patented. Hublot continues to make strides

in the research into materials. This newly developed ceramic is incredibly dense, boasting a hardness of 1500 HVI compared to 1200 HV2 of conventional ceramics. This results in an extremely resilient material. The colour is achieved through a major innovation whereby a fusion of pressure and heat sinters the ceramic without burning the pigments. Having mastered the basic hues with this method Hublot is now ready to introduce a whole new world of coloured ceramics to its watch collections. For this first coloured ceramic, Hublot has chosen a vivid red, which symbolises power, passion and glory whilst also increasing the hardness of the ceramic. The Big Bang Unico Red Magic is undoubtedly an ultra-resilient ceramic watch full of fire. With just 500 pieces released, its 45 mm case and bezel are made from Hublot’s patented red ceramic, boasting a polished finish. The flange, indexes, minute and seconds counters, Arabic numerals and hands all match this hue, adorned in the same red to highlight the contrast with the mechanism of the Unico HUB1242 manufacture movement and its column wheel, visible on the dial side through the sapphire crystal. This theme encompasses the entire watch, matched with a lined structured red rubber strap. Drawing attention from every angle, and captivating all who see it, the red ceramic is set to be a showstopper. A major invention which once again demonstrates that Hublot is continuously pushing its Art of Fusion further, and that, under its impetus, the world of materials and alloys will never cease to be reinvented. This is a material true to the Hublot motto: “be the first, be unique, be different!”

Colonia Sandalo

Indian Sandalwood (Santalum album)

Italian fragrance experts Acqua di Parma have crafted a stunning new, unique cologne. Combining the fresh, citrus notes of the iconic Colonia with rich, creamy sandalwood to produce a surprising and intriguing scent. An original reinterpretation of the iconic Acqua di Parma perfume, Colonia Sandalo is the new and luxurious Eau de Cologne ConcentrĂŠe from the brand. The fragrance retains all the tradition of Colonia, introducing an element of surprise through harmonious contrasts. The sunny clarity of citrus fruits and the refined opulence of this precious East Asian wood combine to create a sophisticated, intense Eau de Cologne ConcentrĂŠe. The fragrance opens with a perfectly balanced combination of fresh, refined notes of bergamot, lemon, orange and petit-grain that reveal the authentic spirit of Colonia, and evolves into a heady olfactory composition of cardamon and lavender notes, released in an aromatic, elegant heart. An impeccable prelude to the original elegance of the base, where the precious, creamy balsamic notes of Indian sandalwood are enhanced by warm accents of tonka bean and amber. Packaged in the iconic Art Deco bottle - in colours that run through the entire collection, a deep brown for the bottle made from the clearest glass and for the stopper, with light bronze satin highlights for the label - Colonia

LUXURY Sandalo becomes the seventh scent to join the fine fragrances in the Ingredient Collection. Every detail, material and workmanship reflect the Italian craftsmanship that has always distinguished every Acqua di Parma creation. Colonia Sandalo comes in two sizes, the classic 100ml and the larger, more spectacular 180ml bottle. Both these sizes are packaged inside a box entirely covered by hand in fine paper in sophisticated tobacco tones. The bronze satin which enriches the inside lends the careful, minimal design a precious touch. An understated yet utterly sophisticated design in perfect Acqua di Parma style. The key to this creation is the incredible Indian sandalwood. Essential sandalwood oil has been harvested for more than 4000 years from the wood of the Santalum tree that has grown spontaneously in the Indian subcontinent since time immemorial. The oil is extracted from the duramen, the innermost and most fragrant - as well as the toughest - part of the trunk. Thanks to its exceptional ability to resist termite attacks, the sandalwood tree has always been regarded in India as a protective tree, whose perfume wards off evil spirits. According to Indian yogis and sages, the perfumed essence of this mystical and sensual wood soothes the mind and accesses the profoundest layers of a person’s mind during meditation. In aromatherapy, the perfume of the sandalwood is used to calm, relieve tension and find inner peace.

Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)

Introduced into the Western pharmacopoeia by Arabic physicians in the Middle Ages, the essential oil of sandalwood became an extremely valuable ingredient for high perfumery thanks to its ability to give every fragrance an unmistakable balsamic, creamy note. This stunning fragrance brings with it the opportunity to experience this fine ingredient in the most luxurious fashion.

FLESH & BUNS Offering a wide array of their signature Peruvian Japanese dishes, Flesh & Buns has recently opened a new site in the Copyright development on Berners Street. It’s been five years since the launch of Flesh & Buns Covent Garden, and while hugely popular, the second restaurant slightly differs from its earlier counterpart in that it will explore Nikkei Peruvian cuisine, whilst also staying true to the izakaya Japanese pub experience that has built such an incredible following since its opening in 2013. Inspired by founder Ross Shonhan and his team’s recent research trips to Peru, the new menu at Flesh & Buns Fitzrovia offers a fantastic selection of fresh ceviches, tiraditos and maki rolls, as well as the ‘flesh and bun’ experience. The research visits helped Ross and his team, further their understanding of the collision of cultures that created Nikkei - a unique style of cuisine that has formed organically over the past 100 years. Menu highlights include the Smoked Pork Ribs with Aji Amarillo Honey Glaze; Tiger Prawn Toban; and Soft Shell Crab Sushi Rolls. The Ceviches are a must-try. Wonderfully fresh and tangy, the Tuna is a particular favourite served with corn, sliced red onions, crispy noodles and white leche de tigre. Due to the small plate, sharing nature of the menu, diners will find it easy to try a wide variety of dishes and flavours in just one

sitting. There is no way you will come away hungry from Flesh & Buns. The open kitchen counter makes for a fun experience, as does the ‘Press for Pisco’ service where diners can enjoy signature Pisco Sours made table-side on a trolley when they push the button on their tables. There is also a large range of hot dishes available, with a specific focus on smoked meats served with bao buns and salad. After 8-12 hours of smoking in Ross’ new wood smoker, dishes such as, Chilli-Miso Smoked Brisket with Chipotle Miso BBQ Sauce & Pickled Red Chillies; and Shichimi and Sansho Pepper Jerked Duck with Coal Roasted Peach Chutney are created for diners to experience, alongside a basket of freshly-steamed, slightly sweet bao buns. In addition to the smoked meats, guests can also enjoy Trout Teriyaki; Katsu Rabbit Leg with Apple and Fennel Slaw & Curry Mayonnaise; and Wagyu Rump Steak with Korean Steak Sauce and Cucumber Pickle. There’s a huge selection of cocktails and many variations on Peru’s most celebrated Pisco Sours, as well as Flesh & Buns’ delicious signature Frozen Yuzu Margaritas. Large and airy with stunning wooden features, the new restaurant is a must visit. Great for nights out with friends or colleagues alike, the atmosphere is light and fun, and the food is spot on boasting something for everyone. Save room for dessert though as the passionfruit marshmallow s’more’s are particularly impressive!

Your Ultimate Guide to Champagne Pairing this Christmas with Francoise Peretti, Director of the UK’s Champagne Bureau Francoise shares her top tips on entertaining with champagne this Christmas

As the ultimate drink of celebration, champagne quite rightly comes hand in hand with the festive season. Whether you’re planning to buy one special bottle this year, or to treat your family and friends to a decadent day and night of champagne, here are my top tips on which style to choose for each magical moment…

ripe, stewed fruits, or even hazelnuts and almonds. Depending on the size of your gathering, I would recommend investing in a Magnum, which adds magnificent theatre and drama to your dining table. There are a great array of Vintages to look out for at the moment, including 2012, 2010, 2009 and 2008.

1. Begin with Blanc de Blancs When the family is gathered around the tree opening presents, excitement is high and the day is young, opt for a lovely, refreshing Blanc de Blancs. Meaning ‘White of Whites’, this style is made from 100% white grapes and its lively nature will start everyone’s day on an upwards-note. Typically chardonnay, Blanc de Blancs are usually a bright, white gold and exhibit beautiful notes of white flowers (think hawthorn, honey-suckle, jasmine and orange blossom), citrus and exotic fruits (like lychee and pineapple). As dinner roasts slowly in the oven, I’d recommend serving this as an apéritif with wonderful canapes and nibbles to tide everyone over. Think smoked salmon or trout blinis, daubed with crème fraiche, basil and lemon; devilled quails eggs, macadamias or Marcona almonds.

3. Pair your cheese course with Rosé On what other day is it acceptable to consume one’s own body weight in cheese? Would we even recognise Christmas if we didn’t have a 30 types of cheese and the chutneys to match? My advice to you this year, if you plan to eat your cheese with champagne, is to buy rosé champagne. At the cheese monger “don’t think blue think ewe!” or goats cheese. To curate your tower of cheese, British options include Perroche, Ragston, Spenwood and Berkeswell, among many fabulous others. These delicate, yet flavourful cheeses pair beautifully with the round fruitiness of rosé champagne, which often releases the delicious aromas of wild berries - such as strawberries, raspberries - and soft fruits like cherries. Not to mention, the stunning array of pink hues look exquisite in a candle-lit glass…

2. Choose Vintage as the main event Nothing produces a wow-factor more than unveiling a beautifully aged Vintage champagne to serve alongside a glorious, golden roasted bird. Whether you’re having a Goodman’s goose, Bronze turkey or Poulet de Bresse, ageing brings complexity to a champagne that gives it the ability to pair happily with all poultry (and to hold its own among the plethora of dishes that come with Christmas dinner!). Vintage champagne is made from grapes collected from a single harvest and will have a year of that harvest on the bottle. It is often described as ‘the expression of a year’. In Champagne, a Vintage must be aged by law for a least 3 years, but usually we leave it in the cellar for 6-8 years to enable it to reach its full potential before releasing it to the market. Typically, you can expect notes of brioche and Danish pastry to have developed;

4. Select a Sweeter Style for dessert Demi-sec and Sec are two terms scarcely whispered in the UK. “Sugar in my champagne - how ghastly!” you may wail. But I implore you to try it. Try a sweeter style with a lavish chocolate Yule log, or with a dark chocolate Pavlova smothered with fresh cream and raspberries. With champagne, you will find that the sweeter styles are not cloying, but maintain the wine’s signature freshness that shines through. This makes it a delightful evening treat and pick-me-up after a generous meal. The beauty of keeping to champagne throughout the celebrations also means that you can avoid mixing your drinks, while having an immense variety of styles to choose from - so it’s likely that your head will be thanking you on Boxing Day. Christmas is a great time to experiment, so don’t be afraid - be in the know!

Wine Masters with Edwin Dublin

Manager of Berry Bros. & Rudd London Wine Shop at 63 Pall Mall, Edwin left a 20 year medical sciences career, during which time he organised staff wine tastings, to enter the world of wine full-time. Having 'graduated' from Oddbins and via a short spell with Laithwaites, he arrived at Berry Bros. & Rudd in 2005. Since then he has developed a passion for the wines of Alsace, Burgundy, Piemonte and especially Champagne which he visits (and tastes) as often as he can and teaches at tastings in the BB&R cellars. When not imbibing on these he can be found at Dukes Hotel bar, sipping a Berrys’ No.3 London Dry Gin martini.

Champagne Pol Roger, Réserve, Brut £31.50 Perfect for a festive party, this has a truly wide appeal and is perfect for lovers of exuberantly styled Champagnes. Feminine and fruity in its youth, it takes on a fuller flavour with age. The added reserve wines are specially selected to achieve the requisite elegance, balance and harmony. It’s perfect for the cellar as well as current drinking, which is an excellent excuse to buy more than one case for Christmas. 2017 Berry Bros. & Rudd White Burgundy by Collovray & Terrier £12.50 Berry Bros. & Rudd have worked with trusted friends Jean-Luc Terrier and Christian Collovray to create this delicious expression of mineral Burgundian Chardonnay for many years. With delicate floral aromas, the palate abounds with vibrant citrus and peach fruit, finishing on a subtle, smoky note thanks to well-judged oak. An excellent aperitif, a fresh, crisp profile makes this an ideal match for smoked salmon or turkey.

2017 Berry Bros. & Rudd Bourgogne Côte d'Or Pinot Noir, Benjamin Leroux £18.80 This Bourgogne Côte d’Or Pinot Noir is a new addition to our own-label range, made from 100 percent Côte d’Or fruit to obtain this prestigious new appellation (which only came into existence from the 2017 vintage). The fruit is in fact declassified Chorey-lèsBeaune, from very old vines and sourced with the help of star négociant Benjamin Leroux exclusively for Berry Bros. & Rudd. Unsurprisingly, the wine offers remarkable complexity, with pretty, floral topnotes accompanying the charming redberry fruit. Elegant and delicate, this is Burgundian Pinot Noir in its most elemental expression. Perfect to pair with the main Christmas meal or for the leftovers the next day.

ultimately lack on the food front, ZELA’s menu is truly fantastic. Led by acclaimed Michelin starred chef Ricardo Sanz, this multifaceted cuisine showcases Japanese specialties with the flavours and unique products of the Mediterranean to create a huge array of exceptional Sushi, Temakis, Dim Sum, Ceviche, among others. Designed to share and incredibly varied, highlights from the menu include Sunomono with calamari; Homemade Shrimp “al ajillo” gyozas; Quail egg with white truffle Nigiri; Salmon “Hawaiian” poke with mango and avocado; 48 hour braised Wagyu teriyaki; and Fried rice with mushrooms, truffle and onsen tamago. Each dish comes out more beautiful than the next, perfectly executed and very cleverly designed, the menu seamlessly blends the Mediterranean with Japan. The scallops with Ibicencan Sobrasada are a fantastic example of this with the saltiness of the chorizo enhancing the flavours of the fresh scallop sashimi. Acting as a one stop destination for both drinks and dinner, the standout cocktail bar serves over 20 classic and vanguard cocktails. A cocktail must-have has to be the Coco Chanel - a delectable mix of vodka, fresh Lychee, Raspberry liqueur, Grapefruit and Simple Syrop. The bar also serves a large selection of wines and premium spirits.

YOUR DRIVE Lexus’ new RX L opens up new dimensions in convenience and customer appeal from their luxury crossover collection as the brand’s first seven-seat model arrives in the UK. Responding to trends in the market which have seen the big players all introducing larger, more versatile options to their model lines, the RX L is set to compete with them all. Luxury materials and a striking design continuing throughout the marque’s models, this car delivers a package that you won’t find from other manufacturers. Designed for extended flexibility and functionality, the RX L boasts an additional two seats which can be hidden when not required to reveal even more luggage space. This adaptability brings a whole new offering from Lexus. Despite the increase in size, the interior and exterior design continues to provide a luxurious and unique aesthetic complete with premium material and a high quality finish. There is also luxury in this cars usability, with the rear seats offering power operation which allows the additional two rear seats to be raised or stowed at the touch of a button. Furthermore, a new triple-zone air conditioning system delivers independent controls for every row of seating. One of this car’s key features is the use of the brands well established, high performing hybrid system which not only allows for fully electric driving, but provides a 7-seater vehicle with impressive performance levels - zero to sixty-two is completed in a swift 8.0 seconds - whilst offering incredible fuel efficiency despite its extended size. This new design plays on the existing RX crossover. Lexus were keen to ensure the design maintained the brand recognition whilst not compromising on the cars final specifications as a result of design constraints arising from adaptation.

Its solution was to design a new rear end for the vehicle, extending the length behind the rear axle. Although only 110mm longer overall, the RX L makes excellent use of the additional space to ensure that everyone on board can travel comfortably and that the third row seats have easy access and generous head and leg room. The front end of the RX L is characterised by a powerful interpretation of Lexus’s signature spindle grille, contained in a chrome-finished frame and flanked by LED headlights – in a triple ‘L’ formation with LED front fog light/cornering light clusters on Premier grade models. The sharply tapering front and rear wing flares add muscle to the RX L’s appearance, while the main body section displays a diamond shape that flows out from the front spindle grille and back to the tailgate. The sculpted belt-line has a three-dimensional look in its course along the side of the vehicle, running from just above the tail-lights, through the side doors and gently bisecting the space between the headlights and grille. The cabin design strikes a balance between functionality and luxury, finished with refined materials that exude quality construction and craftsmanship. The ambience is both spacious yet intimate, with high levels of comfort for driver and passengers. The driver and front passenger seats are low-set, allowing for excellent headroom. The position of the steering wheel closer to the driver and a lowered angle for the steering column create a more involving driving position. This all combines to create an athletic and enjoyable ride that is not akin to the cars size. All-round this car offers something new from the brand and an inviting option to its competitors who will have no choice but to take note. If this is as successful as it’s smaller sister, they will need to respond...quickly.

1969 911 2.0 E Sportomatic £POA

Rare 911 E The 911 E was designed to be the most comfortable of the 911 models with many receiving a variety of lavish factory options. Conceived to fit in between the 911T and the 911S, the E designation stood for einspritzung, German for “injection,” noting the intorduction of mechanical fuel injection. Very few of these cars were produced and even less were available as right-hand drive versions. This excellent example goes even further in the rarety stakes thanks to its 4-speed Sportomatic transmission which found is way into even fewer vehicles leaving the factory - just 14 RHD 911E’s with this gearbox were made. With just two previous owners from new and presented in its original colour combination of metallic red (6854) with beige leatherette interior, this is a fantastic example that is not to be overlooked. The Porsche vehicle identity certificate states that this is a matching numbers UK car, maintaining its original colour. Extras from new include headrests, electric windows, electric sunroof, rear windscreen wiper, toned window and side window, tone rear screen and special paint. The car comes with an extensive service history, original stamped service book, original hand books and pouch and many invoices. It has also just been subjected to an extensive full restoration at a huge cost of circa £80,000 with photos and invoices to show the works carried out. 911’s from pre-’73 are much sought after thanks to their original design - which has been the blueprint for every model since - and this is a true gem that won’t be available for long. Times change, but are our homes still our castles in E14? Owned outright (% of Total)

I think 'Margaret' and 'Thatcher' are perhaps two of the most divisive words in UK political history (along with 'Brexit' now, presumably). Whatever you think about her, it can't be denied, the impact of the housing policies she espoused are still being felt to this day, particularly when it comes to homeownership. But are underlying attitudes to ownership changing? And if so what does this mean for E14? Currently, in E14, the number of people who own a home is 8,500, or 24.8 per cent of the 34,300 local population. In 2001, 28.9 per cent of residents owned their home, so ownership has actually decreased by 4.1 per cent. Since the mid-1990s, first-time buyers have been 'priced out' as house price increases have outstripped earnings growth.

It could well be that some younger people are deliberately choosing to rent, favouring flexibility of tenure. Most rental demand, thus far, has been met by private landlords, but the increasingly uncomfortable tax environment they face might mean institutional 'build-to-rent' starts to play a more important role. The story of the last 20 years has been one of a growing private rented sector while home ownership shrinks. In more recent years, however, the Government has made progress in getting more young people on the housing ladder by incentivising them to buy new build homes via Help-to-Buy. To hear more, just give me a call. Otherwise Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Spencer Fortag
