Joseph Rowntree Theatre on Haxby Road is in dire need of a new roof. To raise funds, the Art Deco theatre is organising a Buy a Tile donation scheme, where people can contribute to the cost of the repairs. The amount needed to fund the repairs is £45,000. The theatre, which was built in 1935, has been entertaining York residents and visitors for 85 years and still has its original roof, which is now leaking. Without these repairs to the old roofs, the theatre risks damage to the fabric of its building, which is Grade II listed. Dan Shrimpton, chair of the board of trustees, said: “We have been staging shows and entertaining local
