Calling all basses and tenors! The Alliance Française de York choir need your support. The group are looking to take on another two or three male singers – at least one more bass and tenor – to balance out the higher number of female voic es in the choir. Although an abili ty to read music and some singing expe rience would be a great advantag e, the most important thing to have is a love of singing and a willingne ss to learn. All of the repertoire is in French so an interest in or know ledge of French would also be a plus. The group is friendly and informal and meets on Wednesday evenings near Clifton Green. n Call or text Mark on 07522 954 158.

A good way to get an idea of where we come from is to look into the past and research our family history. City of York & District Family History Society hold meetings at The Folk Hall, New Earswick, on the first Wednesday of every month, and they invite budding genealogists to pop along and have a chat over coffee. The society also runs a study centre on James Street, open to everyone on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for researching family history. There is always a dedicated volunteer on hand to help and advise. n Visit www.yorkfamilyhistory.org.uk
