Elswick Garden Neighbours This project will be managed by West End Women and Girls and they plan to engage with residents from the Elswick area. The project will be made up of the following activities: • • • •

Garden make overs Community tidy up and plant events Gardening and cookery sessions Beginner’s gardening and cookery session A ‘thank you’ event

This project will be managed by Investing in People and Culture with residents from the Benwell, Elswick and Westgate areas. The project will act as a bridge between refugees/asylum seekers and the local community. A series of sociocultural activities will be held to bring together British and new and emerging communities (refugees and new migrants). Stage one will be to recruit refugee volunteers who will then deliver the community activities and tell their stories. By the end of the project, the volunteers will feel more integrated into the community and will have formed a committee that will go on to support other refugees and asylum seekers.

Strengthening community participation This project will be managed by Denton Youth Community Project within the West Denton area. Activities will include: •

Open access youth provision, and

parent and toddler sessions.

The project aims to build on the confidence and aspirations of young people and their families. The aim is to give young people a sense of belonging to the community and, with activities provided for all ages.
