A Stylish Condo from Two Local Greats
F
or many, a beachside condo is a lifelong dream. Waking up to the sounds of the ocean, sitting on the patio at sunset, entertaining friends and family by the beach - who wouldn’t love to live life like that? And, with a condo, you get the added benefit of being able to lock up your home and head somewhere else for a while without having to worry about things like lawn care. Grandview at Bay Beach offers people that waterside location paired with stunning amenities and great floor plans. Catering to both active and leisurely lifestyles, the beautiful, natural surroundings and nearby arts and cultural attractions offer residents the opportunity to live life well, whether they are snowbirds looking for a winter escape or year-round residents. With a club and social room, fitness center, yoga studio, tennis courts, guest suites and more, Grandview offers its residents the lifestyle they are looking for both inside their home and in the community. The location also allows for easy access to shopping, dining, and attractions in Naples, Bonita Springs, Ft. Myers.
Wanting to really showcase their amazing new project, London Bay brought on a long-time collaborator, Clive Daniels, to stage this beautiful condo. Sherie Weidner, an award-winning Clive Daniel interior designer, brought this home to life and showed a wide range of people what life at Grandview could look like. “I wanted this place to be different and special,” says Weidner. Knowing she needed to appeal to both the younger generation now buying homes in the local market and older people wanting a retirement escape, Weidner went with a chic, beach-inspired mid-century modern design. “Younger people are drawn to this style thanks to its clean lines, somewhat minimalist feel, and its flexibility,” she explains. “For others, it feels nostalgic and homey. It’s the designs they grew up with just given a new and fun twist they appreciate.” Weidner picked a warm colorway for the home and infused the space with vintage-inspired prints and geometric art to give it a modern, yet grounded in history feeling. “I love the location of this building, and the whole time I wanted the Gulf to be my inspiration without using the colors we’ve become accustomed to locally,” she says. “There is nothing wrong with blue and gray interiors; they are a staple because they are beautiful, but coastal chic homes can take on many forms. This space feels beachy while offering a new way to imagine oceanfront design.”

ENTRY Setting the tone for the condo, the entry features the first retro print and introduces one of the grounding, neutral tones Weidner picked for the unit. “I love to use charcoal as a backdrop since it makes the other colors pop in a really special way,” the designer explains. “I love Sherwin Williams Iron Ore and used it here to create a backdrop for the art and to help create a designated space from the rest of the great room.” Another way she helped delineate the entry was through the simple and modern applied molding used to create a focal point. In keeping with the theme of simple lines and organic elements used in mid-century modern design, she picked a light wood table and chose a hair-on-hide rug. Above the room, a pendant light with a drum shade pulls from the color of the accent wall.

GREAT ROOM In the great room, throw pillows on the oatmeal-colored sofa and chair bring in warm pops of cinnamon, burnt orange, and deep mossy green. The seating arrangement is grouped around a stacking cocktail table from Adriana Hoyos, a currently trending element that is also a classic in mid-century design. At the far end of the room, a Universal Furniture media console features a glass front and multi-toned wood surround. It’s been placed on casters for easy movement and topped with a geometric print. Weidner purposefully varied the art throughout the home, saying, “I didn’t want anything to be predictable. I used a mix of vintage, female prints, and geometric art so you were never sure what you would see in each room - like a real art gallery.” This also helped her give the space an edgy, dramatic feel while keeping the coastal chic motif. Next to the console, an armchair with beautifully curved lines offers another seating option and has been placed next to a low, contemporary cocktail table. Anchoring the room, the wool and silk area rug brings in more greens and some gray to complement the colors of the stationary drapes made from Kravet Inc. fabric.
KITCHEN While Weidner wasn’t in charge of the color and cabinet selection in the kitchen, she was thrilled to find they perfectly matched her vision for the condo. The mushroom-colored island complements the rest of the home’s warm color palette and blends seamlessly into the other interior spaces. The rest of the kitchen features plenty of storage options, cooktop, double ovens, and a large refrigerator.

DINING ROOM Just off the kitchen, the dining room is a perfect entertaining space. The focal point is the beautiful, glass and walnut table that perfectly embodies mid-century design. The table is flanked by comfortable chairs finished in taupe and chocolate fabric. “I love this table because it’s not overly formal but it’s still very stylish,” says Weidner. “It’s perfect for a relaxed, coastal setting.” Iron Ore color and applied molding used in the entry to create a backdrop for the Adriana Hoyos buffet, topped with tall and skinny lamps with a natural, alabaster base with gold band detail. The buffet is a piece that is both functional and beautiful; it’s perfect for both serving and storage. Weidner customized the retro pool and water skiing artwork by adding the pop of yellow in the bathing suits and ski tips to add a playful touch. The room is finished by a modern light fixture that matches the feel of the design scheme while adding a modern element to the room.
MASTER BATH A sense of calm is imparted in the master bath. Simple dark accents pop against the overall light color palette used in the space. Plenty of cabinets host storage and a large counter with double sinks. A walk-in shower and separate water closet are great both aesthetically and functionally. Here, another retro print adds a touch of sophistication and gives the eye a place to land as one enters the room.

MASTER The primary suite is a relaxing space that showcases charcoal as the main, neutral tone. “I think this is a great example of how this dark color can be used in a way that still keeps rooms bright and open while adding a little drama and edge to a space,” says Weidner. A simple, American Leather bed sits against a backdrop of charcoal grasscloth wallpaper. The bed itself is topped with cream and charcoal linen, which match the color of the grasscloth and perfectly complement the olive green and cream tones in the geometric patterned drapes. The bed is flanked by two medium-sized nightstands. Weidner was looking for a particular size, explaining, “I knew I wanted to create a seating area near the bay window and wanted that chair to be oversized. That meant that I needed slightly smaller nightstands to make sure the proportions of the room were balanced.” She also chose the nightstands for their two-toned color scheme, which pops against the dark accent wall. Across the room, an espresso-colored wood dresser topped with Carrera marble by Universal Furniture is a quality piece that will last for years to come.

GUEST ROOM One of two guest rooms, Weidner wanted to create a design-forward and comfortable space. On the accent wall, an Adriana Hoyos queen-sized bed boasts a unique, geometric-patterned headboard. Cream bedding is topped by accent pillows and a throw blanket that bring in all the colors found throughout the rest of the home, giving the bedroom continuity. Next to the bed, Weidner chose to use tables instead of traditional nightstands. “I wanted to keep an airy and open feel in this room,” she explains. “The rounded lines of the stacking tables continue that mid-century modern feel, and they don’t close off the room.” In the corner, the swivel chair offers a place to read. The drapes in this room feature a pretty droplet-like pattern set against a cream background and frame the sliding glass doors that lead to a private balcony. Weidner created a relaxing seating arrangement outside utilizing the same charcoal color found in the condo.

LANAI One of the best features this condo offers is its water views. The unit also faces southwest, so the home is flooded with natural light throughout the day. The lanai is a particularly great spot to catch a sunset and has been outfitted with comfortable yet stylish seating options. The low sofa looks like one you would find inside, giving the outdoor space a true indoor/outdoor living feel. In the middle, Weidner topped a fun, outdoor rug with two stacking tables that are easy to move based on where they’re needed for optimum drink and snack placement. Two tub chairs in an oatmeal-toned fabric with charcoal piping offer more seating and add to the design-forward aesthetic of the outdoor space.

Owner Sheila Ruckriegel may have never heard of the legendary interior designer John Saladino, but she knew intuitively how to create a beautiful home from elegant bones. The house she made a home is this custom-built beauty by Arthur Rutenberg Homes. Serving as a vacation home for the family, snowbirds from Kentucky, it was completed in 2022. After its completion, Sheila called upon her daughter, Morgan Wolfe, who was a project manager for local interior design at W Design, to help her furnish the house. Proving the old adage that God laughs when humans make plans, as the interior design was just finished, and the Ruckriegels barely moved in, they learned they were about to be grandparents. Morgan and her husband decided to head back to Kentucky, and newly minted grandparents decided to sell this new home and follow the new little family to Kentucky—a better distance from which to spoil their new grandbaby.
First Impressions Geometric pavers, echoing the color scheme of the exterior stucco, set a subtle tone for this stunning contemporary home in Miromar Lakes. Within its 4,934 total square feet, the home features five bedrooms plus a den, six baths, four fireplaces, a guest cabana, and room, in two climate-controlled garages, for five cars plus the four-person golf cart that comes with the home. Should the new owner be more water sprite than landlubber, the purchase also includes a 23-foot ski boat, private dock, and lift.
They turned to Jonathan Gunger, a Realtor for Coldwell Banker, to put their home on the market. Gunger, who is a CBC licensed contractor before becoming a Realtor in 2011, was the homeowner’s realtor when they bought the lot and began construction on this home. “The home is simply stunning,” Gunger says, “and by that I mean inside and out. Part of my value to potential buyers is pointing out things that might be less than perfect in the construction. The home is perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy the good life.”

Open Spaces The simplicity of the expansive living room creates a stunning room. 12x48-inch ivory porcelain tiles underfoot provide the perfect stage for the creamy Italian leather sectional from Z Gallerie. Recessed lighting draws the eye to the 15-foot ceilings, the scale of which is made more intimate by the addition of decorative dark wood beams. 12-foot pocketing, impact glass sliders add to the room’s towering feeling, and a quartet of abstract prints punctuates the wall of glass. The gas fireplace, flanked by atmospheric prints, joins the navy pillows and throws, providing contrast to the room’s pale palette.
Culinary Central The homeowner’s wish for dramatic ceilings was fulfilled in this brilliant kitchen. The tray ceiling, banded in dark wood, is inset with tiles from the homeowner’s native Kentucky. Four sleek pendants from Lighting First are suspended above the custom island. This is topped with a Calacatta Independence quartz countertop, and there is seating for seven on all sides of the island provided by acrylic and steel chairs covered in snowy performance fabric. “Guests don’t have to crane their necks to talk to each other,” says Sheila. The range hood and the hardware on the underlit cabinets are stainless steel for an industrial flair. The kitchen features GE Monogram appliances, including a double refrigerator, wine refrigerator, two microwaves, and four ovens to prevent any bottlenecks during holiday entertaining.

Entertaining Well The show-stopping feature of the dining area is the glass-encased wine room which holds 42 bottles and is accessed by a glass door. A crystal globe chandelier from Lighting First shines down upon the glass-topped table with settings for eight via tufted gray velvet high-back Parsons chairs from Z Gallerie.

Cozy Up The comfortable den has room for a crowd via the sectional upholstered in ivory velvet. A faux marble-topped coffee table with steel legs from Z Gallerie and a mirrored end table provide space for drinks and snacks. Cushions and throws offer texture. A giant and plush beanbag chair has traveled house-to-house with Morgan since childhood (“It will never be for sale,” she says.) Roman shades filter the light, highlighting the three earth-toned paintings on the wall.
Principal Space The painted cloud ceiling is recessed and banded to give the 14-foot ceiling a more intimate scale in the principal bedroom. The upholstered bed, with its tufted headboard accented with nailhead detail, sits atop a soft area rug and sports organic cotton bedding. At its foot is a conveniently located, textured cotton bench with brass legs. The mirrored nightstand and dresser outlined in soft gold reflect the light filling the space from the tall pocketing doors. An oversized vase, gilded by the owner, holds an elegant floral arrangement. Over the headboard is an abstract painting which the homeowner purposely hung upside down so the print would “look happy, not sad. I am an optimistic person,” Sheila says.

Lanai Living A wave-patterned rug leads to the home’s lanai. Under a teak ceiling, a seating group of dark bronze allows dining for 10. The outdoor kitchen, featuring a built-in grill, refrigerator, sink, wine refrigerator, and Kegerator, makes al fresco entertaining a breeze.
Outdoor Love Set in a quiet corner off the principal bedroom, this part of the lanai invites everyone to sit back and relax on bisque-colored Sunbrella cushions of the bronze-framed seating group. While other companies have gone in a warmer route, Vaslpar’s pick is a slight shift away from the rosy reds, oranges, and pinks that dominated this year. Cacao Brownies Makes: 12 Servings

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on two sides for easy brownie removal. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter in 30-second intervals until it’s completely melted. Alternatively, you can melt the butter on the stovetop over low heat. Let it cool slightly. In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and cacao powder until well combined. Add the melted butter to the sugar-cacao mixture and stir until smooth.
