At Young Scholars Charter School, we focus on serving ALL students and providing a comprehensive student experience through intensive pursuit of resources and equitable offerings of school programs. We seek to provide the BEST middle school experience to students in Philadelphia and serve as a learning resource for other schools in promoting innovative, equitable and transformative educational opportunities for all students.
Serving 300 students in grades 6-8 from 31 zip codes across the city of Philadelphia, Young Scholars Charter School inspires and equips every student to lead a life of achievement, service and success. Our structured and nurturing community, comprehensive programming and rigorous academic curriculum are designed to build self-motivated citizens, eager learners and strong leaders — regardless of circumstance.
Your giving supports the immediate needs of the school and our students, who graduate prepared for the future demands of high school, college, career and, eventually, the world.
“During my time at YSCS, I learned the ability to work with others, to better communicate, and to not be afraid to ask for help. I’m never afraid to go to a teacher to ask anything because they all have an open heart. After I graduate, I’ll miss my teachers, my friends, and the overall supportive YSCS community.”
Christine Riley, YSCS Student100% of 8th graders at YSCS successfully matriculated to a quality high school
Our current success is due to every student receiving access to counseling and student health services, college and career readiness programs, athletics and comprehensive course offerings delivered by a committed and highly skilled team of educators. These services require resources beyond our established funding. The lack of an equitable school funding formula in PA has a significant effect on the acceleration of student success and access to opportunity – both huge pieces to the puzzle of a quality education for a child. As we enter into a new frontier in education, we are making every effort to deliver the highest quality education despite this unjust funding scenario.
This gives them a nurturing and supportive environment with specific therapeutic programming. Counselors provide strategies and skills to help students cope and manage their emotions within the classroom throughout the school day. Providing mental health services to students ensures that all students are healthy and ready to learn.
This gives students and their families the tools they need to live healthy lives in- and outside of school. A full-time nurse plays two critical roles in a school environment. The first being preventative and ongoing care and the second being responsive to student emergencies that can arise in a moment’s notice.
This model helps give students the instruction that is informed by their needs and specialized intervention time designed to allow them to practice and receive direct support. This model also provides teachers with more support and sustainable schedule.
Generous supporters like you help our students receive not only an excellent education and foundation, but a promising future as well!
BY RAISING $1,250 PER STUDENT, WE ARE ABLE TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
Designated as a “Beat the Odds” school by Philadelphia School Partnership, YSCS is one of the top Philadelphia public schools demonstrating significant academic growth for underserved students.
Our College and Career Readiness Program helps young scholars build 21st century skills, and aids in our student’s personal discovery - all important components of the positive development of students in grades 6-8.
In Pennsylvania, per-student spending in the poorest school districts is 33% lower than per-student spending in the wealthiest school districts.
Your gift directly influences our ability to inspire children to learn, achieve and lead and is critical to sustaining our program and maintaining strong reserves for the future.

“My 8th grade year at YSCS has been my proudest accomplishment. My teachers have been like family to me at school, providing me with the stability I always needed. I’m excited to take what I’ve learned here into the future.”
