Letter From The Editor

In life challenges occur, adversities arise, trials and tribulations appear, and when they do, if not careful, they can shift the trajectory of our life. Pain, hurt, and disappointment can isolate us from our dreams, hopes, and aspirations. I'm here to encourage you that regardless of what you're facing or how you feel, "You Can Make It." Although you have faced many challenges in life that have caused you to question your faith in GOD, lose who you are as a person, or distance your dreams, I challenge you today to not quit on GOD, nor quit on yourself by believing GOD and His WORD. Mark 9:23 says all things are possible to him who believes. You must believe that GOD loves you and that your life is not over. Also, believe that no matter what is happening to you, GOD has so much goodness in store for you. The first step, however, is to believe in GOD. My pastor and grandfather, Dr. Oscar J. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood, said, "when you align your believing, your choosing and thinking will automatically change." In other words, your believing has the power to influence and drive your thinking and choosing. Therefore, you are what you believe. Proverbs 23:7 says, "For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he."

So, if you think your dreams are over, if you think you're a failure, if you think you'll never find yourself again after so much hurt, if you think you can't overcome that struggle or be delivered from that demonic stronghold, I have news for you….." You Can." You can get out of that struggle. You can dream that dream. You can live that dream. You can start that business. You can be free from that demonic stronghold. You can make it through whatever you're facing. First, you must believe GOD, believe that you can do it, and see yourself being freed of any spirit that is not elevating you, overcoming challenges, and manifesting your GOD-given dreams.

As you read different articles in this magazine and flip through the pages, I pray you will feel inspired and encouraged on your journey. People you know and don't know are depending on you to make it. People are relying on you to give them hope. People need your gifts. People need your story so they can be empowered to make it, so you can't give up!

I want to acknowledge and thank my husband, Oscar Ja'Marqis Underwood, III; my parents, Vernie and Michelle Starks, Tracy and Tiffanie Naylor; my grandmother, Dr. L Helen Underwood; my siblings, and my aunts for all of your unending support and encouragement on this journey. I couldn't thank you all enough. Thank you all for your sacrifices, prayers, and encouragement. Each and every one of you has made this possible!

I want to give special honor and thanks to my Apostle, Pastor, Mentor, and grandfather for teaching and coaching me, especially when I needed guidance and directions so that what was trying to destroy me, by GOD'S Grace, couldn't. Thank you for your example and for never giving up on me. Thanks to you, I am literally experiencing this moment and forever grateful for all the sacrifices, prayers, and encouragement you have provided me.

I want to thank Betty Hines for your gifts and how you have helped me and encouraged me. I want to thank all the contributing writers for using their gifts to be a part of "You Can Make It Inspiration Magazine." I also want to thank everyone who has supported, prayed, and encouraged me on this journey. To my mentor, family, friends, supporters, and readers, "May God be gracious to you and bless you and make His face shine upon you." (Psalm 67:1, NIV)

e Necessity of A Christian Mentor and Coach

-Leticia M. Starks-Underwood

My favorite basketball player is Kobe Bryant. When we look at how great of a player Kobe was on and off the basketball court, we must acknowledge that Kobe Bryant didn't become the dynamic superstar he was by himself. He had mentors and coaches to guide and coach the greatness out of him. For example, Phil Jackson had to coach the potential out of Kobe. Phil Jackson played in the NBA and won championships with the Chicago Bulls alongside Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, and Scottie Pippen before winning championships with the L.A. Lakers. Coach Phil Jackson had experience and knowledge that would help Kobe Bryant become a superstar. Having a coach and a mentor is a necessity for anyone who desires to advance in life and live their GOD-given purpose and dreams and not be destroyed by the pressure of life.

In addition, every great leader in the Bible had a mentor or coach to show them the way. Moses mentored Joshua so he would know what to do after the Israelites entered the Promise Land. Elijah taught and coached Elisha, who would pick up the mantle of Elijah. Paul mentored and coached Timothy in preparation for the ministry Timothy was called to. Jesus coached and mentored the 12 disciples in preparation for their ministry while walking with Jesus before his death and after the ascension of Jesus.

What is a Christian Mentor and Coach?

A mentor and coach are two very different things, but they both have the same goal: to help you become a better person who lives out your GOD-given purpose and destiny so that GOD would be glorified. A mentor takes you by the hand and guides you along the way. Mentors are there to help you make good decisions when you are not sure what to do. A coach helps guide us toward greatness in Christ!

A Christian mentor is a person who has been in your shoes before and has the experience to help you. They are typically are older than you, so they can give advice based on reallife experience. A mentor will also challenge you when needed, but not aggressively.

Mentors are there to encourage and inspire people who want to grow in their faith, career, and personal life or become a better person. Mentors don't just give advice; they also provide encouragement by reminding us of the faithfulness of GOD and His promises, furthermore showing us how to seek first the kingdom of GOD and keep GOD first in every area of our lives.

Dr. Myles Munroe said, "The potential of a seed is in the seed itself." A Christian coach recognizes the GOD-given potential and greatness in another; and makes it a priority to coach you to achieve your goals, potential, and dreams. A coach is not just someone who gives advice or counsel on a particular issue, but rather they are there with you as a confidant throughout the process of reaching your full potential and selfdiscovery.

9

The benefits of having a mentor and coach in your life are many. Mentors and coaches help you on the road of self-discovery, help stir up the greatness in you, help you to make good decisions, and help you to be a better person. They also help you when you feel stuck and need guidance. They're there to pray with and for you and wipe your tears when the journey becomes too hard. They're there with words of encouragement when you're ready to give up. They're there to discipline and instruct you when you lose your way for a season. They're there when you don't want them to be there because they have the ability to look past your mistakes and failures and see the potential in you that you can't see in yourself. Coaches and Mentors are there to believe in you until you come to the point to believe in yourself. Christian Mentors and Coaches teach you how to walk and talk with GOD.

A mentor is someone who takes you by the hand and guides you along the way. They may not always be around to help, but they are there for you when things get tough or confusing. A mentor is someone who has been through the same thing as you and knows what it's like, so they can tell you how to deal with your situation in a way that will work for both of them. This is especially important for young people who may not know exactly where their life is going or how to get there yet. A mentor can be anyone from your pastor to an older Christian friend or relative who has gone through similar experiences as you in life. Your coaches are essentially your mentors who can see things you cannot.

"Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.”

Isaiah 55:1-2 (NKJV)

Believe in the LORD your GOD, and you shall be established; believe and remain steadfast to His prophets, and you shall prosper (in part from II Chronicles 20:20). Moreover, it is in Him we live, we move, and we have our being (Acts 17:18). JESUS, the incarnate Word of GOD, is the Bread of Life, and those who come to Him shall never hunger, and those who believe in Him shall never thirst (John 6:35). In search of a fulfilling life, a happy, satisfying life, we in our human frailty grasp for “things” or “others,” if not both, to do what only JESUS can do. After I reached adult age, I lived life as I chose to live it for many years. While everything appeared to be okay, there came a time I felt empty and unfulfilled. I had money, shelter, clothes, and cars and provided for my children as a single parent for most of those years. But something was missing. There was a void, a place in my heart that was longing for “better.” I believed GOD existed, but I had not come to “truly know” for myself, The One in Whom All Things Consist. At an early age, on a Sunday morning dressed in my little white dress, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and was taken to the river, literally the river, and baptized. The word of GOD says to “train up a child in the way they should go,” but because of GOD’S free-will, we sometimes choose the way we think we want to go instead of the way we “should go.” Thank GOD for His GRACE

So, one day in 1994, I cried to GOD these words, “GOD, there has to be more to life than this.” On that day, I believe The Son (JESUS) looked at ABBA, Father, and said, “the prodigal son (daughter) is ready to return home.” Is there anything too hard for GOD?

Emphatically, “NO!” As I quoted before Acts 17:18, it is in Him we live, move, and have our being. To attempt to live a fulfilling life outside of His boundary is futile. We are as “nothing” without Him and can do “nothing” as we ought without The Spirit of LIFE working in and through us.

Remember, JESUS said, “those who hunger and thirst . . . shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6). No matter our “where,” He is already “there” waiting to give us His beauty for our ashes. As I am encouraged by the Word of GOD, I hope you are also inspired. Be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might. Remain steadfast and unmovable, always abounding in the finished works of JESUS CHRIST in and through every situation, every circumstance, and every trial of life.

“On the last day, that great day of the feast, JESUS stood and cried out saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

(John 7:37-38)

Bruised But Not Broken

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM you fall to the ground, you feel as though you are down for the count, the Devil has been punching you time after time again until finally you become unconscious, he laughs in your face thinking that he has won. The Devil has a way of using our trauma against us, he has a way of making us feel broken, a way of making us feel worthless, a way of making us feel like we are not good enough until we start to believe the lies that are spoken to us. There was a time in my life where I started to believe those lies, where I started to believe that he truly had won but, that was until I was introduced to Jesus Christ.

Growing up all I had wanted was to be loved by my father, I wanted his attention, I wanted him to know that I was there but, no matter how hard I tried I always seemed to be invisible. I remember listening to music in my sister’s room and just crying out to God asking Him to save me from my heartache, to save me from my depression, and to save me from my darkness, at that time, I did not realize what those words meant but, now I do.

As I became older, I realized that the past trauma that I had encountered was the Devil trying to destroy me because speaking those words and crying out to God meant that the Devil’s time was running out, the enemy knew that what he intended to use to break me wasn’t going to last forever. The enemy knew that he could only bruise me, because what the enemy intended for evil God will use for His good.

I am here to tell you that you are more than your circumstances, that you are more than what others may say about you, that you are more than what you have been through, that you were bruised but not broken. I’m here to tell you that God has a purpose and plan for your life. You may have gone through the fire like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and just like them, you will come out of the fire untouched. The Enemy thinks that he has you but, not for long because you belong to God and Isaiah 54:17 says, “no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.” As a lasting thought, thieves don’t break into empty houses.

Overcoming What's Meant To Destroy You

Victory succeeding a war has resulted in establishing kingdoms on this earth. It's not breaking news but the history of the generations. Victory is proclaimed when the enemy is destroyed. Moreover, victory is the result of overcoming the opponent.

Can you take a second to imagine the scenario of a battlefield where weapons are used like gadgets; blood is shed like flowing water; the focus is to let fall and the target is to conquer.

The life of a human is well related to a battlefield, a war between heart and mind. The plans in mind are great, but the heart's desires are flitty; the goal in mind is to achieve, yet the heart's thoughts are to misspend. Crooked is the heart where deceitful plans are organized and transpire as displeased actions.

Have you ever wanted to go back to some time in the past and overcome the displeasing desires that turned into actions that are destroying you at present? Unfortunately, it's not possible.

Destruction is not a one-day event. It requires a detailed plan, a clever strategy, and an accountable time. It may even lead to continuous downfalls. Overcoming is the only option left.

The War Within

Often the heart's desires hinder an individual from doing what he intended. It is because of the war that is happening within. "For the desires of the flesh are against the desires of Spirit, as they are opposed to each other."

Desires of flesh results in sin, while desires of the spirit are peace and love. Sin destroys life, but love builds lives.

Who is winning the battle within you each day? Is it the flesh or spirit? The answer to the question reveals whether life is victorious or defeated.

Is your spirit getting defeated in the battle within you for days, months, or even years? Are you still struggling to overcome lustful passions? Are you trapped in a regrettable habit that's destroying you?

Here is some good news for you.

Victory Declared

Your victory over destruction is already declared. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:57, "but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. All you need to do is to direct your focus on the conqueror, the Christ. Listen to The Holy Spirit. Allow The Holy Spirit to work with your spirit, and you will be built up, not destroyed. You are no more a sheep to be slaughtered. You are more than a conqueror through Jesus, who loved you. So, what's your target? Is it to let yourself fall to the world or to conquer it through Christ?

In e Hands of A Covenant Keeper

-Benhur Tuazon

To live a life of faith is easier said than done, as Jesus has said, “…. In the world ye shall have tribulation but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”. I first encountered the Lord at age 16 in Junior High. I accepted Jesus in my life and made Him my Savior and Lord. It was the first serious decision made in my life that discarded the root of our traditional religious belief from generation to generation. The advice from my aunties was to renounce the faith because if not, my life would be ruined, and a curse would be upon my family and me.

Nevertheless, I remained firm and stood on Acts 16:31, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” My faith journey is like a merry-go-round, but I stand on that promise. After many years of living my life in Christ, my parents accepted Christ as their Savior. My brother works in Saudi, returned home, walks by faith in Christ Jesus, and is a full-time pastor. My sister is the supporting wife of her husband and pastor. Several cousins went on full-time missions; one volunteered in The 700 hundred Club in Asia. Indeed, our God is a covenant keeper.

24

As I grew in faith and matured, I was led to the 2nd most important decision in my life, which was to enter married life at the age of 29, where a challenging event almost ruined my and my wife, Maria Elizabeth’s life. As Dr. Myles Munroe once said in one of his family seminars, “marriage is the greatest attraction and destruction. Marriage is the most beautiful danger in life, and it is the greatest source of joy and frustration, the greatest source of hope, and also the greatest source of fear. The most precious dream but can become a nightmare overnight.”

Though my wife, Maria Elizabeth, and I are both growing one church, one mission, and one dream, our faith was tested and exposed in the challenging world of marriage life, and our faith has been shaken yet confirmed. Though we both work in Christian Mission: my wife with Norwegian Mission Philippines and I to Onesimo Foundation, serving churches in Metro Manila, ministering to the youth who have brushes with the law and dysfunctional families, as church coordinator for six churches. As my wife and I grew our so-called ministries, our little boy, our silent observer, learned differently from what we said and did. At 17, he started to talk back to us, intentionally do things that could hurt us, and began to show a rebellious attitude and fell into drug addiction. My wife and I protected our reputation and ministerial pride; we lived a life of denial as if our son was not having a problem. Finally, his condition worsened to the point of rehabilitation intervention. Our hearts were broken. We recognized that we were the ones who brought our son to anger that resulted in his rebellion. He becomes the image of our wrong priorities and negligence. Ministry begins first in the family before anything else.

Through the power of prayer by the saints, humility, forgiveness, unconditional love, and selflessness healed and restored all that was broken concerning me: my broken relationship as husband to my wife and a broken relationship with my son. Authentic service to the Lord was refined and tuned up by God. On the day my son turned his life to God, God blessed Him with a persevering, loving wife and two children worshiping God together and freed him from the bondage of addiction. And as we renewed our covenant as husband and wife as the first priority in our service to God, and next, to our siblings Eli-Hur and Shimei Uel as our first ministry and others follow. Maria and I were both in our 50s when we vowed to God that when we came to our retirement age of 60, our whole life would be for His greater service—years had passed, and we forgot our vow to Him. Upon my retirement, God reminded me of our covenant. He had prepared the place and people. God orchestrated it. Our ministry in the community was all supplied by Him. The favor of the Local and National government, the friends and churches, and the community itself, from the youth to parents, give their willful support to the mission. What encourages us most is how God connected us to Cornerstone Christian Preparatory Day and High School (CPREP ) through Dr. Leticia Underwood. The encouragement and support received from Dr. Oscar Nelson DowdellUnderwood, and his staff and students are priceless.

Our worship is a product of His undying love, grace, and mercies to us. Let God be God!

Why is it crucial to understand the importance of overcoming anything that tries to stop you? From the moment you were born, the enemy started putting obstacles and challenges against you to stop your greatness from coming to the surface. In this essay, the following will be discussed: First, what does it mean to overcome? Secondly, how does overcoming an obstacle help you self-discover? Lastly, why do you think overcoming is a crucial factor in your life?

OVERCOMING WHAT WAS MEANT TO BREAK YOU

First, what does it mean to overcome? According to dictionary.com, overcoming means to succeed in dealing with a problem or difficulty. But to me, overcoming means successfully defeating or conquering a struggle and understanding how to control it so that your mind and body understand that there are no limitations to stop you. Also, overcoming allows you to get a better understanding of that situation and choose how that obstacle affects your life. For example, when you finally decide to come to a point in your life when you overcome that obstacle, struggle, or challenge, it will create a change and a shift inside of you. Therefore, to overcome means to regain resilience and to be strong enough to face your obstacles for the betterment of yourself and your life.

Secondly, how does overcoming an obstacle help you self-discover? It is through gaining the strength to confront an obstacle and face it as well that you begin to grow into the person who overcomes obstacles and does not run from them. Throughout your life, you will encounter many situations and circumstances that were meant to break and tear you down, but it is all about how you respond that will force the conqueror and fighter in you to surface. For example, in order for you to truly self-discover, you must not be afraid to overcome that obstacle to be able to face the unknown and then grow from it. Therefore, you become yourself by overcoming who you are not in order to be able to realize and selfdiscover who you are.

26

Last, why do you think overcoming is a crucial factor in your life? Overcoming is a crucial factor in your life because it helps you reflect on where you were to where you are now and from who you were to the person you have grown into. Overcoming helps you understand that you have grown from being limited and letting obstacles tear or break you down to overcoming the obstacle and using it as a growing experience in your life. For example, when you overcome situations, obstacles, etc., in life, you are strengthening every part of yourself, such as your self-confidence, problem-solving skills, your ability to have resilience, your emotions, focus, and actions, but most importantly helps you find your true identity and become yourself. Therefore, if you truly want to fulfill the purpose on your life, you must understand and be grateful for the gift of overcoming.

OVERCOMING WHAT WAS MEANT TO BREAK YOU: In this essay, the following has been discussed: First, what does it mean to overcome? Secondly, how does overcoming an obstacle help you self-discover? Lastly, why do you think overcoming is a crucial factor in your life? In lasting thought, obstacles are to be overcome, and limits are to be broken!

Inspiring Youth of Today

I am Shimei Tuazon, a teen willing to make a difference and become a legend, all for the Glory of GOD.

As I grew, I became more amazed at how the almighty GOD carefully planned the detail of my life. Since childhood, I've learned to accept and love the truth about being adopted by a Christian family. They always remind me that my biological parents didn't give me to them because they don't love me but because they cannot give me a better life because of their situation. Although I was not born physically by my adoptive parents, I was birthed from their hearts. I grew up receiving love from everyone, and I've never felt that I am different or that I do not belong. In fifth grade, I was transferred to a public school that exposed me to many worldly things, including saying profanities. I was easily influenced, and saying swear words became my habit. As I aged, I started to become different, but in a bad way. I acted differently in school, in church, and in our home. I began to live a double life which I thought was cool at that time because I thought doing things behind my parent's backs and playing innocent was something to be proud of.

Fast forward to when the pandemic came, and we moved out of our old house into a different town. This is one of the most remarkable testimonies I will not be tired of sharing. We were just having a 5-day vacation in Onesimo Farm And Campsite, my father's workplace in Laguna, Philippines. Little did we know that GOD has another plan. Exactly three days after our stay, the whole Philippines were on lockdown. At first, we found it hard because we were just staying in a tent! But then, if GOD is making a move, He is making a way and providing a way. He touched the heart of one of the pastors in Onesimo in Manila to allow us to live in their cottage for a while. We enjoyed those months in a little cottage with clothes and things for a supposedly 5-day vacation.

But now, the owner of the cottage is planning to return and live there. So how about us? No worries because we know that GOD got our backs! He touched the hearts of people to help us financially in building a cottage on a lot we own. Thankfully, we were locked down in a place where we have land. But indeed, GOD's plan is higher than us, and so are His ways. Our supposedly little cottage became a house with three floors that we use for our weekly gatherings. We did not know GOD was planning something big, and He will use our family to do it.

Little by little, starting with four youths, including me, we have a gathering every Sunday, Bible Study, because we study the words of GOD. And by our simple obedience to share the gospel with those three youths, GOD's plan took place. From 3 to 8 to 21, we now have more than 70 youths and kids within our community! We always say we were not planning to become an organization, but that is not what GOD intended. Now, our organization, Youth Development Go-Viral, is already recognized by the municipal and even the National Youth Commission! We also opened a Computer Center that teaches basic computer skills not just to students but parents and out-ofschool youths also.

But during that time when we were still few, I continued to live a double life. Engaging myself in online fights became a habit of mine. Once, GOD used my brother to reveal the secrets I tried to hide from my parents to live a successful double life. I was devastated and scared at that time, but I held onto verse 1 Peter 5:10, "And the GOD of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast." And that was when my "GOD's breaking" became my breakthrough. I was shocked. After all, I always thought I already knew GOD because I grew up in church. But when I started having personal devotion, I realized I knew nothing about Him, and I became thirsty for knowing Him.

GOD's breaking is painful, but His breakthrough is more than refreshing, leading us closer to Him. That is when opportunities came, including the spoken poetry contest, that led not just me but other youths within our organization to have an opportunity to study at Cornerstone College Preparatory Day and High School, International (C-PREP), founded by Dr. Oscar Nelson Dowdell-Underwood, Superintendent and Headmaster, in the U.S.A. online. I realized that GOD cannot give me what He has in His hands if I am still holding onto the things He wants me to let go of. GOD continues molding me into becoming the person He wanted me to be by using my new school in America, C-PREP, Dr. Nelson Dowdell-Underwood, and C-PREP Staff. I also know my purpose, and I know He will use me to reach out to my biological family. He gave me the gift of writing, and I will use it for His Glory to reach out and give hope to others. So, I encourage you, youths of today's generation, to give your life to Christ because the best opportunities will come if you allow GOD to prepare your way. Don't be just a youth, be a legend who will leave a legacy for the next generation.

Inspiring Youth of Today

I am also a BSA and YDA officer in Laguna, Philippines, and I competed in postermaking contests from grade 7 to grade 10. I met GOD at a young age and am so proud of that. And this is my story of overcoming the challenges that come into my life.

At a very young age, I realized that life is not always about happiness and that I will not always encounter friendly people. For as long as I can remember, the first struggle I faced was when I left my Christian school and went to a public school in grade 1. I experienced bullying that caused me to hate myself, think I was not good enough, do not belong there because I had dark skin and looked different from the rest of the class. When I started to attend Bible Study, I realized that struggles, problems, and obstacles are part of growing up. I needed to learn how to overcome those obstacles in my life to become stronger.

This second story still breaks my heart when I recall it. When I was in grade six, my mom told me that I was going to be a big sister, and that made me very happy. I was so happy that I promised myself that I would be the best sister in the entire world. And I would not let my baby brother be a victim of bullying. I would be by his side forever. One day my dad woke me up around 11 pm and said my mom was about to give birth to my baby brother. I felt happy and scared at the same time. I thought to myself, the time has come for me to be a big sister. I had been waiting for this for so long. My dad sent me to stay with my auntie while my mother labored to bring my brother into the world. That evening I could not sleep. I began to pray that everything would be okay. I woke up at 7 am to see my father looking for me. My heart was pounding because I saw the look on his face.

My father remained quiet for the entire ride home. As we approached, I saw people around our house, and my eyes began to fill with tears. When I saw my little brother, he had no heartbeat and never cried. I broke into tears and slowly reached my brother's coffin.

I had no idea what to do or what to say. I asked GOD, "why is this happening to me? I'm not a bad kid. I always prayed that everything would be okay. But why?" The loss of my baby brother broke my heart. To this day, every time I think about my baby brother, I cry. I miss him. The dream of becoming a sister was not really for me, which is okay. I know GOD has a reason for not giving me a brother. It's okay because if he were alive, he might suffer the bad things I encountered. I wouldn't want him to experience pain and sickness. I know that he is in heaven with GOD.

I know I am not the only one who encounters struggles in life. But never lose hope! Just pray, and all things will work together for good to those who are the called in CHRIST JESUS. Struggles help us become our best selves. In the world, people will make you feel like you're not valued. But there is a GOD that loves you so much that He gave His Only Begotten Son to save all. I know that our struggles may be different at any given time. But don't give up, don't give in! Pray and give it all to GOD!

Inspiring Youth of Today

I am Jessie A. Pelagio, 15 years old, a believer, dreamer, follower of Jesus Christ, and a son of our Father. First, I want to thank God for his goodness and greatness. I am so grateful to be a part of this amazing work. My first accomplishment is, of course, meeting GOD because meeting and falling in love with GOD is the most ethereal, out-of-this-world feeling. Because when we depend on GOD, when we rely on his plans, we will impact and kill the world with his grace and with our kindness. Since I was in the first grade, I have been an honor student, and when I finished the 6th grade, I graduated as a Valedictorian. When I stepped on the high school level, I was just enjoying my teenage era as a normal student. I joined a club, and the name of it was "Assertive Writers" with that club, I got to enhance my writing skills from GOD. And I started to join all the contests for writing. Sometimes I win, and sometimes I lose. I also joined the dance club, and for me I was blessed to have many talents and gifts from GOD. When the recognition happened, I was awarded as an honor student and top 1 in our class. But sadly, this Covid-19 came, so I could no longer study faceto-face, and it was hard for me to adjust.

I am very thankful to be a student at Cornerstone Christian Preparatory Day and High School, International (C-PREP), located in Ft. Wayne, IN, USA. Being a student is great, but being an international student is better. It’s just an immense blessing from GOD. I am also ecstatic about studying in the USA because it cultivates a more profound knowledge in me. C-PREP is an example of a great school under the leadership of Dr. Oscar J Nelson Dowdell-Underwood because once you step into their world, you will understand the altar of your life. I can see that there's a discipline for every passion. I believe that I can be anything if I put God first and at the center of everything.

I always want to define what it is to be a son of GOD, with a dream of changing the world one sequin at a time. Being an Ambassador of CHRIST and a Christian simultaneously is challenging because not everyone agrees with what they see. Criticism and judgment will always be there even with just one mistake. But being in a relationship with GOD is just wow! In the past, I always relied on people, I wanted them to comfort my sad heart, but as I grew up, I realized all I need is to believe in GOD, all I need is to rely on His Grace. I felt that the world was getting harsh to me and the problems were getting closer and closer to me, so I wrote this to encourage myself: “Here comes another cruel problem, looks as invincible as a gem. The old theme since 2007, never really changed my sense of, “when will I break free?” Do I need an exit fee to enjoy the real me and to let me see the positive impact of my party? Great pretender I am, to fool all of them that I'm fine but really, out-ofline. The greatest lie here with me is calculated easily, with a cup of coffee and tea. I think I deserve to see the best out of me. Many cases involve my mental health; many problems involve my physical features; many problems involve my social assets; and, many bet on the breaking of my life. It's me, lithium, this annoyance, never having the chance: the chance to speak out, the chance to converse about, or the chance to change the atmosphere in this sphere of influence and nonsense. Wanting to let it through, the hardship in me, looking up at the sky, saying goodbye, waiting to just die. But, a second after, here comes another nuisance and annoyance, different words but the same chords of my greatest rival like a tidal.

Nevertheless, I am the keeper of my own story. I am the keeper of my possibility. I am the keeper of my insecurity, so why do I need to let it free if I am not ready? Breakthroughs need to be emphasized more clearly and freely. I, myself, didn't know how to free my problems. I, myself, also ran to my room. I, myself, don't know how to influence others with my thoughts. But in the moment of faith and self-realization, I just transformed into another nation wherein my opinion of them is missing something. I have to be my alchemist. I have to let the beast inside of me beat and cheat the system to empty the seat of my cases and phases. Where can I find the breakthrough I need? It can be found when I let myself be drowned in the ocean of GOD’S grace and favor. GOD’S favor to see the positive outcome of my fears. GOD’S favor to turn my hardships and tears into a new book titled "Cheers."”

Triumph Over Tribulation

-Minister Erica Standley

In my late 20's, I took a job in Wichita, KS that is about 4 hours away from where I lived. After a little while, I was waking up every morning with a very dry sore throat, fatigued and a swollen tongue. At the time, I had no idea what was going on. One day when I decided it was time to go to Urgent care I had a terrible car accident that should have taken my life. Next thing I know I was in the hospital after having been life flighted there. I had no idea what happened until I woke up out of a coma to see my parents had come to see me. Once the dust settled, I was told what happened and that I had been having seizures the entire time I was in the hospital. I was confused.

This condition with epilepsy was a life changing situation that I battled for over 11 years. Being chronically ill caused so many other issues aside from the condition itself. I suffered some memory loss and the stress it took on my body made it hard for me to work at times. I felt hopeless.

Before all of this, I felt healthy and things were going well. The truth is that I began to wonder if God cared. I was a devoted bible believing Christian that thought if I did what I was supposed to that everything would work out. The truth was that this train of thought led me deeper into a place of despair. This was a major setback that caused me to question everything. This was an attack that was meant to kill me.

The thing about God is that even when the enemy attacks, there is always something that comes out of it. Not long after that I packed my things from that city and moved back in with my parents. About 2 years later in one of my darkest moments, the Lord spoke to me about starting a prayer line specifically for women. At the time I didn’t want to do it. I felt ill-equipped to lead anyone. Yet, there was a stirring I couldn’t shake. God showed me that He was using this ministry to be so much more.

To make a long story short, I started a women’s ministry that has touched the lives of many not just women, but also men. I will say that through my pain, I have been healing. Though it took a while I have been free of seizures for over 2 years. Through my testimony others have said that it has given them hope. My story has given God all the glory. So if you ever question if all things work together for your good…just know that God always turns our tribulations into triumph.

Overcoming What Was Meant to Break Me: Leveraging Fear to Fulfill My Vision.

•Who would listen to you?

•Who will ever join your book club?

Those were the deceitful voices spinning in my head when I had the urge to create my book club in 2017. Whenever I read a book and couldn't share what I'd learned, I always felt I owed the world everything. It was an intense moment for me, especially as an avid reader. And the best way I felt I could express my passion was to build a community of readers. But I was afraid to start.

When I couldn't resist the urge anymore, the feeling of failure, I created the first and the second group on WhatsApp. But something happened—I deleted them—all for fear of rejection. I was that scared!

Marking the second anniversary of my book club (ReadwithJTA) in July 2022 drove me back to a moment of reflection. This reflection happened after a member of my book club asked me how I overcame my fears of creating the book club, bearing in mind that I delayed the vision for three years. I answered her:

1. Purpose and Vision with a Deep Sense of Conviction:

While reading his book, The Principles and Power of Vision, Dr. Myles Munroe mentioned that any vision that isn't written down remains a dream or an idea. But it becomes a plan when written down.

(Emphasis Added)

I had to write the vision dated 20 October 2018 quickly. Amidst my fear, a strong sense of purpose to share what I've discovered from reading wouldn't allow me to find peace. I knew what to do. But I didn't know how to do it. This led to the next step:

2. Prayer:

I prayed about the vision and was led to share it with my diligent friend Victory and my great mentor Engr. Mike Bertola Ibitomihi. This led to the third key.

3. Mentorship and Quality Relationship:

I found strength from the encouragement and wise counsel of my mentor and my friend. Victory told me to do it afraid. And obeying her led me to create the original group in 2020—three years after I had received the vision in 2017.

With more courage developed, I've built a reading community brimming with excellent readers, writers, and creatives. Beyond the book club, obeying the voice of my purpose also allowed me to write my first book, Why You Shouldn't Celebrate Your Birthday, a year after my book club was created. I've also written my second book, Unleashing Your Reading Power, by overcoming what was meant to break me. And by obeying the voice of your purpose, you can ride on the wings of fear to accomplish your greatest goal. Dear reader, your dream is valid. That you're afraid doesn't always mean you do not have faith. Sometimes, you need to do it afraid. Most times, it requires praying about your vision; creating a plan or SMART goal; having a mentor or building a strong accountability system with the right people that will provide the right environment for your vision to find expression, and finally, taking action. Don't fear taking baby steps you thought would break you. Trust God to step into your destiny. Your steps of faith truly count. If you refuse to do it afraid, you may keep denying the world of your greatness. Never forget that someone's greatness in life is tied to your rising. Please, arise!

Bible Verses To Encourage Yourself When You Feel Down

1. John 16:33 - "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

2. Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

3. John 16:33 - I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

4. Philippians 4:13 - "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

5. Psalm 18:6 – "In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears."

Author Spotlight:

As I embark on where God has brought me, I'm filled with gratitude and humility. I have published two books in the last year. The first is a children's book based on the life of a rambunctious kitty with an adventurous outlook on life and the beauty of adoption. My second book is a romance novel showcasing an affair that was supposed to have a beginning and an end with no hopes of a future. However, fate is fickle, and when God blesses it, there is no stopping the ship once it's set course. So, on the 28th of March, I will travel to the other side of the world as I start my new career as a traveling author. I dream of writing books as I experience new cultures and create lasting memories.

After the pandemic, I realized God kept me alive for a purpose, and life is too short. I refused to die on my deathbed with regret and without doing all I could to bless HIS name. I could see the woman God had been pushing me towards all along, but I was hellbent on stopping in the middle of the road and pouting like a petulant child. I realized I had a fear of success. Most people have a fear of failure. As for me, it's the opposite because I was scared of upholding that success. I would have to stay on that pedestal of perfection, and I was terrified. When you doubt yourself and are too afraid to push yourself, it leaves you in limbo. Depression sets in. Self-depreciation. Selfhate. Suicidal thoughts. Severed relationship with God. Loneliness digs deep into your bones. Being lost becomes natural, and you sometimes feel like you're drowning. Every day I walked around as a living carcass.

-Rani K. Taylor

It took me ten years to find myself again. Ten years to love me again. Ten years to accept God back into my life and feel the love HE has for me. I had to feel worthy of HIS love. When in reality, I always had HIS love. I just had to learn how to love myself in the process. Every day is a testament to my love for God, and I pray and ask for guidance.

Most importantly, I listen. When I meditate, I listen to God. Every day isn't a walk in the park. I still falter because I'm human. However, I no longer beat myself up over it. I don't internalize things until it decays. I take my problem to God first. I journal about my issue, and then I listen for my answer.

Life is too short to be hard on yourself. Instead, you must love GOD, yourself, and your neighbor. When you have achieved this, you will find peace that wraps around you like a winter cloak.
