245 YOTA athletes attended the SwimRVA Invitational in Richmond, Virginia from June 16-18th. The energy brought to this meet by all teams was unlike any other, especially knowing that YOTA was the defending champion. There were a tremendous amount of fast swims throughout the meet. The 12 and under sessions resulted in many best times and more Age Group Champ cuts and first time qualifiers. The 13 and over swimmers saw lots of finals swims, which included the 50 freestyle super final where the top swimmer from each of the 4 teams battled it out for team glory. This weekend also resulted in 2 new Summer Junior National time standards that were met by Reese Stoner in the 100 backstroke and John Reese Taylor in the 100 breastroke. With all efforts put together by YOTA athletes, YOTA won the invitational for the 2nd year in a row!
66 YOTA swimmers headed back to the Triangle Aquatic Center to compete in the 2023 North Carolina Swimming Long Course Age Group Championships. This meet provides an opportunity for the fastest age groupers in our state to compete against each other and our swimmers certainly made their mark on the weekend. 14 of our swimmers placed in the top 16 in their individual events, earning points for YOTA and helping us finish in 9th place overall. This group of athletes has always represented the future of our team and they continue to prove that our future is strong and bright. Well done, YOTA!
76 YOTA Swimmers hopped on a bus and headed down to Orlando to close out the summer season at the 2023 Last Splash Invitational. This group of Senior athletes broke up the drive on the way down by exploring Buc-ee’s and doing some shakeout swims at the Bolles School in Jacksonville. When the group arrived in Orlando they got right to business and raced their way through four days of historically fast swimming. 22 YOTA Swimmers placed in the top 3 in their individual events, 16 YOTA Relays placed in the top 3, and YOTA placed 1st in the men ’ s, women ’ s, and combined scoring categories. 7 YOTA team records were taken down as well as 2 pool records and a North Carolina State record. YOTA Swimmers earned new YMCA Nationals, Futures, Winter Junior National, Summer Junior National, US Open, and Olympic Trials qualifying standards. It is safe to say that these swimmers left everything that they had in the pool and certainly earned their ticket to Universal on Monday. Way to finish strong, YOTA!
Collin Davis has been swimming with YOTA since he was 10 years old, currently a swimmer at Wyoming and training with YOTA in his breaks and summers. He just got home from representing the United States for the 2nd time at the Deaf World Championships in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Collin was the Lead Captain for Team USA as he brought home a bronze medal in the 4x100 Free Relay, a silver medal in the 4x100 Mixed Medley Relay, and an individual silver medal in the 200 Free. Way to go Collin! He now sets his sights forward to the Deaflympics next summer!
Jackson Garrett from Kerr representated YOTA and North Carolina Swimming at the Southern Zone Championships in July. He applied and was accepted to join the other North Carolina 11-14 year old all stars as they raced against the southern LSCs from Florida to Texas. Jax swam the 50 and 100 Back, the 50, 100, and 200 Free, and the 200 IM. He dropped time in 4 of his 6 individual events and contributed to four scoring relays.
His best finishes were in the second place 200 Medley Relay, and his individual 13th place in the 100 Free. Congratulations, Jax!
