Lily, “Lil” as she was known to family and friends, was born on December 17, 1919 in Battrum, SK, the daughter of Stanley and Emily (nee Mapes) Haw. She was raised and attended school in Pennant, SK and went on to attend Normal School in Moose Jaw to become a teacher. Lily was united in marriage to David William Coghill on May 8, 1940. When Dave was discharged from active duty at the end of WWII, the couple made their home in Yorkton. Lily was employed as a bookkeeper until 1954, when married women were allowed to continue their teaching careers. She taught in the Yorkton Public School system, mostly grade one students at Burke and Dr. Brass schools until her retirement in 1979. Music was a lifelong passion for Lily. In her younger years, she enjoyed sharing that passion by playing piano with dance orchestras. As a teacher, Lily shared her musical talents with her students in the classroom and through preparing numerous school choirs to participate in the Music Festival. And in her church, she shared her love of music with the congregation of St. Andrew’s United Church as a choir member. Besides her love of music, Lily had many hobbies which included travelling, crocheting, knitting and writing poetry, skits and tributes to friends. She was very busy in her community as a member of a variety of volunteer organizations and was an active member of St. Andrew’s United Church involved in Presbytery, the UCW and Bible Study. Lily was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband, David in 1984 and all of her siblings. She leaves to celebrate her life, twelve loving nieces and nephews and their families, as well as a host of wonderful friends. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from St. Andrew’s United Church in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Roland Legge officiating. Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Murray Wagner. The organist, Shani Apland and members of St. Andrew’s United Church Choir, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Joyful, Joyful We Adore You”, “The Lord’s My Shepherd” and “Unto the Hills”. The Choir selection was “Jesus Loves Me”. In 1941 the family moved to Fort Erie, ON where she started school and her parents worked in an aircraft factory. After 4 years there, the family returned to their farm where Doris completed her education. As a girl, Doris spent her free time in the evenings reading, drawing and singing with her family while her dad played the harmonica and her mom taught the kids how to dance. She worked as a study supervisor at the country school there for a year, then spent 2 years working at Waters’ General Store in Archerwill. In 1955 she married Arthur Letestu and they moved to Sturgis where Art ran the auto body shop. They lived there for 12 years and were blessed with four daughters while there: Charlene, Deanna, Carol, Gloria. Doris was a busy stay-at-home Mom who spent many hours gardening, cooking and sewing clothes for her girls, as well as custom sewing for others. In 1967 the family moved to Dubuc where they bought the hotel. They lived there for 8 years and they were blessed with another daughter, Marnie. It was there that Doris started doing oil paintings. Next, the family moved to Yorkton, SK. Always busy with her family, she still made time to sew many graduation gowns, bridesmaid’s gowns, wedding gowns and other custom clothing for friends. In 1981 she met a widower named Dan Krepakevich and they were married in 1982. She had only Marnie remaining at home with her by this time and the two of them moved to Dan’s farm to live with him and his youngest son Kevin who was just 14, where together they raised Kevin and Marnie. After 10 years on the farm near Hamton, they built a new home in Yorkton and moved there in 1992. Around this time they also started going on fishing and camping trips with friends, they did this for many years and sometimes Doris took a canvas and her paints along to capture the scenery of beautiful northern Saskatchewan. They were always busy, enjoyed many good times with friends, playing horseshoes, having barbecues and celebrating birthdays. She continued with her sewing and she and Dan also began helping as caterers for St. Gerard’s church hall. She became the seamstress for the caterer’s uniforms, sewing 84 purple vests as well as table skirts for the hall. Another favourite pastime of hers was her garden and yard, where she spent many happy hours tending her beautiful flowers and trees. Doris and Dan each had 5 children and as they all grew and got married and had families of their own it made for some lovely big family gatherings over the years. Her favourite times were Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving and also summer barbecues, when all their children and grandchildren would come for supper and a visit, when the house was full and noisy with the sounds of a large happy family. Her family meant the world to her. Doris was predeceased by her parents, by her first husband Arthur in 1979, second husband Dan in 2012 and a brother Jerome. GRIFFETH - (Richard) Lorne. November 10, 2017 at the age of 69, we lost an incredible man, (Richard) Lorne Craig Griffeth. Lorne’s generosity, compassion, charisma, humour, drive, entrepreneurial spirit and love for his family were evident throughout his life. Lorne spent many days on the golf course, relaxing at the cabin, travelling, in business ventures and was always surrounded by family and friends. He tackled life with a work hard, play hard motto! Lorne’s life began in Moose Jaw on August 19, 1948. He graduated from Mossbank High School and moved to Toronto to take Electrical Engineering. He eventually settled in Yorkton where he worked for Swinging Sam’s Music store. This ignited his passion for business so he bought the store which became his first of many retail enterprises including: Phase II, Top Forty Franchise, Caesar Salad Kitchen Boutique and Karmen’s. It was in Yorkton that he met his first wife, Karmen and raised their two children, Kurtis and Lori. In 1995, he opened and managed Pockets Sports Bar until his retirement in 2010. During his days at Pockets Lorne met and married Tammy (Bown). They shared an incredible friendship and spent their years creating moments filled with music, travel, laughter and love. Lorne, best known as Griff by his buddies, loved to have a good time and always ensured people around him were well taken care of. His favourite place on earth was his cabin at Madge Lake. He was most often found on the deck with his tunes playing, enjoying the outdoors and welcoming anyone who stopped by for a visit. He loved to spend time with the grandchildren, taking them for rides in his convertible sports car and would do anything to get a smile. Lorne was also a talented self-taught cook who loved to share this gift with others. Lorne was predeceased by his father, William Griffeth (1973), his mother, Daisy Griffeth (1984), his brother, Bill Griffeth (2002) and his brother-inlaw, Gene Stusek (1994). Lorne is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Tammy; son, Kurtis (Cara) and their children, Lyric and Beckham; daughter, Lori (Dwayne) Daelick and their children, Cambri and Jett, his sister, Cheryl (Lyle) Wilkinson, his brother, Ray (Ardell), his mother inlaw, Carol Bown and his brother-in-law Scott (Cherie) Bown as well as many nieces and nephews. Lorne’s children leave these final words…Dad, we will smile for the years and the lessons you gave to us. We will work hard and play hard, never letting excuses get in the way of our success. We will ‘show up in life’ in a way that will bring you pride and peace. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure. The family would like to thank Dr. Pasad, Dr. Rao, Dr. Groenwald and Dr. Swan as well as the nursing staff at the Regina General Hospital, Yorkton Regional Health Centre and Jowsey House Palliative Care for their quality care during the past two and a half months. The immediate family is holding an intimate gathering in November, followed by a Celebration of Life which will be held at Madge Lake this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Canadian Diabetes Association.
