NERBAS - Norman David Nerbas was born on the family farm 7 miles south of MacNutt in the R.M. of Churchbridge on January 22, 1925 to John Fred Nerbas and Dorothea (Dora) nee Mack, the sixth of eight children. Baptised at MacNutt Feb. 11, 1925. Confirmed: April 10, 1941 at Landrestreu, Confirmation verse: Jer 31, v3. Married to Mildred nee Mund Nov 20, 1953 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Langenburg, SK, celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary last November. They were blessed with three children. Dale, 1957 (Marlies), Don, 1961 (Val), Tammy, 1971 (Mike), 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grand children. Norman David Nerbas was born and raised on the family farm and fell in love with farming. In his younger years, he worked for some neighbouring farmers, while continuing to help out his parents. He attended Flower Valley school which was just east of the farm. After marrying the love of his life, Mildred, they took over the family farm as his parents retired. They had the dairy, beef, pigs, chickens and grain, a mixed operation. In 1960, a new farm house was built. There were always improvements to the farm like going from a crushing mill to a roller mill for feed. Going from square baling to round baling. In 1975, a milking machine was installed. Mom and Dad were active in social dances in the area. They loved music and dancing. They loved to socialize and did alot of entertaining at the farm. They were involved in the Christian faith with the Landrestreu congregation and later with Christ Lutheran Church, Langenburg. Dad was active as elder and trustee at Landrestreu. In 1994, Mom and Dad decided to hand the farming reins over to Dale and Marlies. They moved into a house in Langenburg where they resided until 2013, then moved to senior housing by the water tower until Dad moved to Langenburg care home in the spring of 2014. It took him quite a while to adjust to the new environment, but when he did, he was very content. He breathed his last around 4:30 p.m. January 10, 2018 at the age of 92 years, 11 months, 19 days. He is predeceased by his parents: Fred and Dora, his brothers: Edwin (Mandy), Emil (Della), Ewald (Emma), Albert (Edna), Gordon, sister, Elisabeth (Jack); nephew, Rod Nerbas, nieces, Trudy Nerbas, Beverly Davey; mother-in-law, Bertha (Geres) Mund, father-in-law, Christian Mund, sister in-law, Joan Mund. Surviving him are his wife: Mildred of Langenburg, sons, Dale of Langenburg (Marlies) {Melissa (Garnet) of Edmonton, Nikki (Devin) of Langenburg, Riley of Calgary}; Don of Yorkton (Val) {Cassandra, Brady}; daughter, Tammy of Yorkton (Mike) {Tyler, Eli and Patrick}. Great-grandchildren from Nikki and Devin {Alexa, Ava and Kylie]. Sister, Doreen of Churchbridge (Wilfred) sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Allan Hinde of Maidstone, brother-in-law, Earl Mund of Langenburg, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. You know in your heart that you were a friend of Norman. Funeral services were held January 20, 2018 from Christ Lutheran Church, Langenburg with Pastor A. Gust officiating. “Where the Roses never Fade” sung by Charlie Mintenko. Organist: Judy Hertlein. Committal Service held at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery. Those who so desire, may make memorial donations to Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund; The Lutheran Hour; or the Sunrise Health Region (Langenburg Care Home) as gifts of remembrance. Arrangements entrusted to Braendle Bruce Funeral Home. PERPELUK - Mrs. Mary Perpeluk of Melville, formerly of Yorkton, beloved wife of the late Willie Perpeluk, entered eternal rest on January 14, 2018 at St. Paul Nursing Home. She was 89 years of age. Mary was born May 11, 1928, daughter to John and Annie Anthony (nee Shewchuk) on the farm near MacNutt, SK and attended Clova School #806. She, along with her brothers, helped with the livestock and grain farming. On October 24, 1948, Mary chose to marry William Perpeluk in Calder at St. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church. They farmed north of Wroxton but moved to the town of Wroxton until 1966. Here they raised three children, Mary had a large garden, was an accomplished seamstress and loved to make clothes for her children and pajamas for nieces and nephews at Christmas. She loved making things and just about all of us have a sample of her arts and crafts which we will appreciate more. She was an avid volunteer in church, school and community and taught 4-H sewing in Wroxton. She was also an active curler. She loved to plan and celebrate special and any occasions, Christmas, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and holidays with friends and relatives. She liked to plan ahead. She loved to take lots of pictures, but take two in case one doesn’t turn out and she hated pictures that didn’t include your feet. When Willie got a job with Melville School Unit they moved the family to Melville where she gained employment as a caretaker at the Provincial building and St. Pauls Nursing Home. When they moved to Yorkton she worked at the Hatchery, Harvest Meats and Yorkton Nursing Home. In retirement Mary and Willie loved to travel and spend time at their Arizona home. One highlight in her life would have been the trip to Ukraine. She liked fishing and camping. She enjoyed entertaining and having “happy hour” with friends, playing cards, playing bingo and going to the casino, even with her wheelchair and oxygen. Along with Willy’s membership with the Yorkton Elks Lodge, Mary became an active member of the Royal Purple. She is also a member of River Ridge Fish & Game in Canora. Mary was a numbers person, when she made perogies she would make us count them, when she played cards she would bring out rolls of pennies and when it came to cribbage, she only played for money (loonie a game) and liked to win. As a Mom and Baba she was the reliable target to buy our school magazines or chocolates for fundraising. With Mary and Willie the happiness and success of their family was number one priority. She made it to just about every birthday, graduation, wedding or special event of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved and lived with energetic enthusiasm, a generous respectful strong willed woman who had lifelong friends. When you came to her door or say goodbye - it was always “give me a hug”. She will be missed by all that loved her. Mary leaves to mourn her death: Brother and Sister-in-law, Alexander and Cynthia Anthony (Kelowna), Children: Darlene (Duane) Dreger of Balgonie, David (Penny) Perpeluk of Nanaimo, Dolores (Edward) Pilipow of Melville. Grandchildren: Delmyra (Fred) Skutar, Prichard, Darscelia Dreger, Saskatoon, Dawn Dreger (Bobby Hurford), Calgary, Diane Dreger (Kirk Morin), Balgonie, Daniel (Angie) Perpeluk, Nanaimo, Kelly (Amy) Perpeluk, Nanamio, Lee Ann Perpeluk (Jason Trimark), Vancouver, Mike (Alison) Pilipow, Saskatoon, Paul (Cherie) Pilipow. Great-grandchildren: Cody, Charlie, Ethan, Alex, Winston, Illyanna, Felix, Kacey and Josie. Sisters-in-laws: Irene Lantz (Edmonton), Edna Perepeluk (Yorkton), Elsie Perpeluk (Wroxton), Agnes Gawryliuk (Yorkton), many cousins, nieces and nephews and her best friend Delores Kowalchuk and family. She is predeceased by husband Willie in 2010, her parents; John and Ann Anthony (nee Shewchuk), brothers and sister-in-law; Bill and Olga, Mike, Johnny, Jimmy and infant sister Elsie. A Prayer Service was held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 and the Funeral Service on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Fr. Rodion Luciuk, representing St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, officiating. Rodney Flunder led in the singing of the responses. Serving as cross bearers were Delores Kowalchuk and Delmyra Skutar. Members of the Royal Purple were in attendance as group. A bagpipe solo, “Amazing Grace” was played as the recessional by Fern Katzberg. The interment followed in St. Mary’s Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Cemetery, MacNutt District with Alexander Anthony, Daniel Perpeluk, Kelly Perpeluk, Mike Pilipow, Diane Dreger and Cody Pilipow serving as the casket bearers. SEREDA - Mrs. Doreen Sereda of Yorkton, beloved wife of Emil, passed away peacefully after many years of health issues and a continued demonstration of strength on Friday, January 12, 2018 surrounded by family at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre at the age of 71. Doreen Mabel Rodych was born on May 28, 1946 in Foam Lake Hospital by parents Sophie and Mike Rodych. Doreen was the oldest of three siblings; survived by her brother Methodius (Donna) Rodych of Medicine Hat, and their daughter Stefanie (Dane) McKinley and granddaughter Adelynn and sister Christine (Leon) Froess of Regina and their daughters Courtney, Candice and Kendra. In her early years, Doreen grew up in Beckenham, SK while attending school in Runneymeade, Ituna and Foam Lake. On May 28, 1966 Doreen married her high school sweetheart Emil Sereda in Ituna, SK on her 20th birthday. Doreen, a proud and devout Catholic dedicated to her family, didn’t let much slow her down. Despite both Emil and herself working full time jobs and raising six young children; five boys and one girl, her devotion to faith and family never wavered. Doreen’s creative passions included spending time in the kitchen, floral design and cross-stitching. Doreen was almost as devout to her daytime soap operas (stories as we all knew them to be) as she was to her faith and family…but not quite. If it wasn’t her ‘stories’ she was watching it was her armchair quarterbacking of the Riders or skipping Team Saskatchewan or Canada at curling. She loved to read, specifically about Princess Diana and grew toward a new-found love of fishing with Emil, most of the time catching bigger fish than he did! Waiting to greet Doreen in Heaven (predeceased by) both her parents, father Mike Rodych in 2001, mother Sophie (Krywulak) in 2017, one twin son Kim in 1996 and faithful Sparky who was always there to cuddle with Doreen. Survived by husband Emil Sereda of 51 years of marriage, son Kevin (Tracy) of Regina, SK and children Koby, Carson, Ayden and Marysa; Kelly (Joy) of Kitchener, ON and son Tanner; Trent (Nicole) of Saskatoon, SK and children Josee and Halle; Kyle (Angela) of Moose Jaw and daughter Jazmyne and Amanda (Curtis) Knihnitski of Saskatoon and daughters Peyton and Aubrey. Doreen is forever in our hearts, always remembered and will never be forgotten. A Prayer Vigil was held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton led by Mary Bybliw. The reader at the vigil was Carson Sereda. All the children conveyed a tribute to their mom. The Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Louis Kim Nguyen as the Celebrant. Diana Hornung accompanied members of St. Gerard’s choir in the singing of the hymns. The cross bearer was Koby Sereda and the readers were Stefanie McKinley and Candice Froess. The general intercessions were led by Halle Sereda and Marysa Sereda. The gift bearers were Ayden Sereda, Josee Sereda, Jazmyne Sereda, Peyton Knihnitski, Aubrey Knihnitski and Tanner Sereda. Members of CWL offered the honour guard and tribute. Named as honourary bearers were the Grandchildren, Koby Sereda, Carson Sereda, Ayden Sereda, Marysa Sereda, Josee Sereda, Halle Sereda, Peyton Knihnitski, Aubrey Knihnitski, Jazmyne Sereda, Tanner Sereda. The interment will take place at Yorkton Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorials in memory of Doreen may be made to the Intensive Care Equipment Fund at Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com.
SARADA - Michael Stephen Sarada of Estevan, formerly of Melville, passed away in Estevan, SK on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the age of 44 years. Our hearts are broken as we lay to rest our son, brother, uncle, cousin and dear friend to so many. Michael was born in Melville on January 2, 1974. He was Melville’s New Year’s Baby that year. His Mom Peggy tells us that there were other babies vying for this title but Mike made it first. From the start he was a tough competitor it seems. Mike grew up in Melville and was the neighbourhood bike riding, ball/hockey playing, “hey come to play” force. You had to remind him to come in and eat lunch but back he went outside, knocking on doors to get a kid to come out to play. He graduated from Melville Comprehensive High School in 1992. Mike loved all sports. He played baseball, football and hockey, but hockey became his passion. He played for the Junior B Hudson Bay Saints, the Junior A Flin Flon Bombers, the Junior A Melville Millionaires. He then carried on his hockey career as a senior player with Grenfell Spitfires, Wawota Flyer, Altona Maroons, Bienfait Coalers and the Midale Mustangs. Here again he was a force helping Midale to win three league championships as a defenceman. Valuing a higher education, Mike attended the University of Regina and obtained his Bachelor of Administration degree in 2001. As an outdoorsman and having been influenced by both the Sarada and Denesyk family farms Mike chose to focus his business career in agriculture. He had summer jobs with grain elevators in Sintaluta, Kelso and Ituna; he then began his full time career with Pioneer in Balgonie, then Winnipeg, finally settling in Estevan with Richardson Pioneer as a Grain Merchant for the past 14 years. For the last five years, Mike was an Assistant Coach for the Estevan Bantam AA Bruins. The tributes of Mike from this hockey world in particular are incredible. He’s regarded as irreplaceable, outstanding, caring and the best kept secret in Saskatchewan. He was a force. So many stories have been shared with the family since his passing. All of them express their heartfelt shock and sadness and practically all share a laugh or two. While he was known for being honest and direct, respectful and encouraging, his social nature meant a lot of laughter and good times happened when Mikey was there. Mike made a huge difference in so many lives with his warm heart, his huge beautiful smile and his soft caring personality. He made friends easily and so many friendships were valued as lifelong. His kindness was so second nature to him that we doubt Mike fully understood the scope of his impact on others. In friendship, he was a force. Mike adored his nieces Molly and Anna and nephew Jack, to them Uncle Mike was the Best. Always attending their activities and staying interested in their lives. In most recent years, he became adored by his girlfriend Tamie’s children. They speak of how fun and how kind Mike was to them, supporting them as well in their activities and daily lives. In his families here again, Mike was a huge force. His sister Lori calls Mike a top quality guy. She is so right. Mike, your forces will be so sadly missed. Mike leaves behind his girlfriend Tamie Bieber and her children, Megan (Mike Seida) Bieber, Kaelum (Kaibre Watson) Bieber, Jayda (Zach Maurer) Bieber, Moraea (Colby Martinson) Bieber, McKenna Bieber; parents, Peggy and Richard Sarada, sister Lori (Justin) Komarychka; nieces, Molly and Anna; nephew Jack as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by maternal grandparents Steve and Frances Denesyk; paternal grandparents Fritz and Mary Sarada; his uncle Johnny Sarada, Uncle Bill Sarada, Aunt Lorraine Giles, Aunt Lillian Sarada. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, B.Th, Certified Celebrant officiating. Tributes and Words of Remembrance were given by Trent Rude and Kent Bittner. Funeral Service was held on Monday, January 15, 2018 from the Church of God in Estevan, SK with Pastor Geoff Thiessen officiating. Interment followed in the family plot in the Garden of St. Luke in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Memorials in memory of Michael may be made to Melville Minor Hockey, Box 1585, Melville, SK S0A 2P0 or to the TS & M Bantam AA Bruins in Estevan, Box 146, Estevan, SK, S4A 2A2. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com or at www.hallfuneralservices.ca. Arrangements were entrusted to Hall Funeral Services in Estevan and Bailey’s Funeral Home Yorkton - Melville.
