WORONUIK - Tom (Irving) Woronuik, March 26, 1938 - December 21, 2017. The family of Tom Woronuik are saddened to announce his sudden passing on December 21, 2017 in Gull Lake, AB. Tom was born on the family farm in Insinger, SK to Wasyl and Effie (Ukrainetz) Woronuik. Tom had an endless love for animals and it seems fitting that he was walking his beloved border collie “Rebel” at the time of his untimely passing. Tom is survived by his son Duane (Glenda), granddaughter Rianna Rae (Devon) of Saskatoon; special friend Janice Thomas of Edmonton; and numerous nieces and nephews in BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Tom will also be missed by his family community of Gull Lake. Tom was predeceased by his parents Wasyl and Effie, 9 siblings and grandson Aaron. At Tom’s request, there will be no service, rather a celebration of life for close family and friends will be held at his favorite watering hole, the Monkey Top Saloon, in Bentley, AB at 1:30 on January 6. To quote Tom’s favorite expression…. “Happy Happy”. Cremation entrusted to Oberhammer Funeral Chapel in Rimbey, AB. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local Animal Shelter. KOWALYK - Larry Walter Kowalyk. February 23, 1951 - December 18, 2017. Larry was born and raised in Rose Valley, SK. After leaving school, Larry moved to Yorkton, where he met his wife of 44 years; Lovell Hnatiuk of Calder, SK. Through the years Larry and Lovell lived in Yorkton, Estevan and Weyburn, but eventually settled in Yorkton where Larry worked at The Bay, Buy Rite and later owned a Lottery terminal at the Super Store. He retired in 2009 and continued to pursue his love of lawn care, tilling gardens and collecting, buying and selling all things interesting. He loved old cars and antiques. He enjoyed visiting family and friends, fishing and of course playing golf, Watching and betting on hockey, basketball and football. Every day he waited for the afternoon to roll around, when he went to the mall to scratch cross words with Ed and Steve. He was very happy to get a surprise visit from his wife’s nephew Todd (Jen) and niece Corrie (Neil) from Winnipeg, MB and his special friend Irvin (Gail) Suski from Kenora, ON. Larry is pre decesased by his father Walter Kowalyk and survived by his mother Pauline Kowalyk, wife Lovell, his brothers and sisters Jerry Kowalyk (Phyllis), Leslie Kowalyk (Cindy), Roger Kowalyk (Barb), Allan Kowalyk (Lynell), Karen Ritchie (Ron), Rita Vellacott (Brad) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Larry’s life will be held for immediate family at a later date. SIMMONS - Rose Simmons (nee Mosiondz) of Yorkton, beloved wife of Doug Simmons, passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on December 19, 2017 at the age of 72 years. Rose was born on June 28, 1945 at Canora, SK to John and Anastasia (nee Chalus) Mosiondz and grew up on the family farm. As a young woman, Rose lived in British Columbia but later returned to Saskatchewan, settling in Yorkton. Rose was a strong and determined woman that met challenges with great courage. Her pastimes included reading, watching movies, and following her favorite sports teams. Rose is predeceased by her parents, John and Annie; her sister, Helen Lozinski; and her brothers, Paul Mason, and Metro Mosiondz. Rose leaves to celebrate her life her beloved husband, Doug; her daughter, Cindy (Kuldeep) Belley of Kamloops, BC; her sisters, Mary Oucharek of Yorkton, and Kathy Boguy of Regina; her brother, Mike Mosiondz of Regina; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada in memory of Rose Simmons may be made as an expression of sympathy. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. MADUCK - Irene Jane. January 10, 1944 - Toronto, ON - December 26, 2017 - Calgary, AB. Irene Jane Maduck died peacefully on Boxing Day at the age of 73 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Tony (1985) and Annie (Teslak) in 2000. She is survived by her brother Nick (Lorraine) Maduck, Calgary and her nieces and nephews, Dana (Ralph) Tigner, Calgary; Sean Maduck (Molly), Lafayette, California; Erin (Brett) Elofson, Toronto and Joel Maduck (Karen Jardine), San Jose, CA. She is also survived by nine great nieces and nephews: Anna, Sam and Grace Tigner, Calgary; Nora, Clara and Joseph Maduck, Lafayette, CA and Lily, June and West Elofson, Toronto. Irene is also survived by aunts and uncles Bill (Adeline) Maduck, Alex (Vi) Maduck, Jean Misko, Ruby Tyshkewich, Patsy (Adam) Milo, Judy Prokop, Angeline Maduck, Sophie Koptie, Kay Blahut, Rose Kowch, Ruby (Joe) Hebert, Isabel Teslak, Ivy Teslak, Irene Teslak, Ann Teslak, Matt Novak and many other members of her large extended family. Irene was born in Toronto and moved to Yorkton with her family in 1966. Developmentally delayed from birth, Irene had family and many other people assisting her in most areas of her life. She was a client of the Sheltered Workshop in Yorkton for many years and received a plaque recognizing 20 years of dedicated service to the Saskatchewan Abilities Council (1987). After her father’s death, she and her mother moved to St. Albert, AB (1986) and then to Calgary (1993) to be near her brother and his family. In Calgary, she participated in the Options Day Program while living with a supportive roommate. As Irene’s health declined, she moved into long term care (2009) and the family is grateful for the compassionate care she received from all of the staff at Bethany Care Centre in Calgary. Funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Yorkton, SK on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:00 am. She will be laid to rest beside her parents in the Yorkton City Cemetery.
