ACHTEMICHUK Wilhelmine (Willie) Achtemichuk beloved wife of the late George Achtemichuk passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Nursing home on June 4, 2017. She was 91 years of age. Wilhelmine was born Oct. 26, 1925 on the family farm in the Rhein area, a daughter of Jacob and Amalie (nee Miller) Herman. She grew up on the family farm and received her primary education at New Canadian School in the Rhein area and as a result of her mother’s untimely passing she stayed on the farm and helped raise the younger members of the family. In 1951 she was united in marriage to George Achtemichuk and continued to live in Rhein. In 1952 George and Wilhelmine were blessed with one son, Norman. They both worked at Lucky Dollar store in Rhein, George as a butcher and Willie as a cashier until 1963. They purchased a grocery store in Melville and successfully ran it for three years. In 1967 the family moved to Yorkton where she gained employment with Canada Safeway and was a dedicated and loyal employee for 21 years until her retirement. She was a devoted caring wife, mother, sister and friend. Her outgoing and friendly personality, infectious smile and great sense of humor befriended everyone who came to know her. She always made time to listen to her friends and family and help in anyway she could whether it was through her work or through her gift of baking. She lived a rich full life enjoying friend’s family and neighbors. Upon retiring, Willie and George enjoyed a wonderful life together doing what they loved. One of their favorite hobbies was packing up a lunch (that they loved to share with friends) and heading off to a ballgame in and around the area. No game was too far away. They loved to watch ball and share their time and their lunch with friends they made along the way. They also enjoyed watching the Cardinals and Terriers in Yorkton and watching Blue Jays and Oilers on TV and of course Mom’s favorite watching curling. After George’s passing, mom spent time with her two loving sisters Emma and Isabel. The Herman girls (as they were referred to), were well known and well liked by everyone who shared time with them. They stayed close to each other having coffee or sharing garage sales and helping each other through life’s journey’s. Willie had a huge passion for baking and was well known for her amazing “trays of goodies”. Willie had a lifelong dream of writing a cookbook and in 2002 with the help of her very special niece Bonnie and her son Norman she completed her lifelong dream. The book was called “Baking with Auntie Willie” as she was everyone’s Aunt. The book was an immediate hit! The Herman girls with help of family and friend soon sold out the first print and another one was ordered as selling to friends, family and garage sales created a huge demand. How she beamed when talking about making her cookbook and her baking and how other people so enjoyed her efforts as she always had a tray for someone to take home. She enjoyed her church, St. Paul Lutheran and was a faithful member. Willie was a resident at the Yorkton Nursing home since 2012 where she received loving care from the staff at Orkney House. Wilhelmine was predeceased by her husband George, her parents, Jacob and Amalie Herman, her stepmother Caroline, her sister Emma and husband Edmund Mehling, her brother Herbert Herman, her sister Isabel and husband Sydney Wolfe, her nephew Clifford Wolfe and her niece Marilyn Grenier. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Norman and his special friend Judy (Jude) Wilkie, her special niece Bonnie and husband Darrell Mirva, her stepbrother Fred Steininger, sister in law Phyllis Herman along with many nephews, nieces, family relatives, friends and co-workers. The funeral service was held on Friday, June 9, 2017 from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorkton. Pastor Heike Toeller officiated, assisted by Margaret Anne Yost. Organist, Verna Liebrecht led the congregation in the singing of the hymns ‘Softly & Tenderly Jesus is Calling, ‘I Know That My Redeemer Lives’, and ‘God Be With You Till We Meet Again’. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Mark at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Bonnie Mirva serving as the urn bearer. Memorials were to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com.
CLARK - Alice Clark of Yorkton, SK, formally from Churchbridge, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2017 at her residence in Morris House of Yorkton and District Nursing Home at the age of 88 years. Alice Margaret Clark was born on June 2, 1929 and raised on the family farm in Spy Hill, SK. Alice was the daughter of Frank and Mary (nee Smith) Baseley, and older sister to Frederick W. Baseley. Alice attended school in Spy Hill. On May 6, 1967 Alice married Robert George Clark of Spy Hill, SK. They were married at St. Andrews United Church in Yorkton, SK. Robert and Alice resided on the family farm in Churchbridge, SK where they raised their two daughters, Mary Ann and Mabel. Alice was a loving and supportive wife and mother who worked alongside her husband Robert (Bob). Together they worked hard as grain farmers, raising a beef herd and later moved into dairy farming. Alice was an avid gardener, often having two to three gardens each year. She had a green thumb and knew all there was to know about growing geraniums and Christmas cactus. Alice loved canning and making jam which she often made after picking saskatoons or chokecherries from the wild and raspberries, cranberries, and strawberries from her own garden. She loved to bake and often got up early each morning to make cookies or cake for her daughter’s lunches for school. Weekly she always made bread so the family could enjoy fresh bread and cinnamon buns right out of the oven. She made her own butter and ice cream and the best homemade cream puffs. She enjoyed knitting and taught her girls how to knit also. She took time out of her busy day to drive her girls to and from sporting activities, school events or 4-H meetings and shows. Alice loved her animals, her cats and dogs, the cattle and horses. She was always there to help get the horses ready for 4-H, and the horse shows. She took an active interest in her daughter’s pets and horses, always asking every time they talked, how are the cats, or how are the horses. She loved to play cards with her husband and their friends or neighbors, or just having a coffee and a visit. She always made sure everyone ate, whether they were there for a visit or working on the farm. She loved her three grandsons, Cody (Taryn) and Mitchell born to Mary Ann (Dwight) Yacyshyn and Riley born to Mabel (Kim) Lazecki. In 2001 Alice and Robert retired and moved into Churchbridge where they lived together until Robert’s passing on January 26, 2006. This is also when she became an avid Blue Jays fan. She tried not to miss any Blue Jays games and often could give you all the details of each game including pitches, home runs and who had the bad umpires. She was also a dedicated curling fan and looked forward to watching each game. Alice continued to live in Churchbridge until her health forced her to move to the nursing home in 2013 where she resided until her passing. During this time, she loved making puzzles and watching her ball games and old movies with John Wayne. WRIGHT - Val Wright, widow of the late Duncan Wright, longtime Yorkton resident, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017. She was 79 years of age. Val was born on May 16, 1938, in Rhein, SK. She grew up in Yorkton where she attended Simpson School and YCI. After graduation she moved to Saskatoon where she worked at the Royal Bank. She met the love of her life Duncan at a party in 1961 and they were married on October 6, 1962, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Yorkton. God blessed them with 41 years of love. They began their life together in Yorkton where they built their home and filled it with memories. Val worked at the Royal Bank until Cory was born in November 1968, Cara followed in August 1970, and Candace in January 1973. Val loved being a mom and was an amazing domestic engineer - as she liked to be called. When she wasn’t busy answering phone calls and doing Duncan’s books for the family business, she could be found in her garden, in the kitchen cooking or baking, in the basement ironing everything from jeans to pillowcases, sewing baton and Halloween costumes or the latest star wars bedding for Cory. She liked to read a good romance novel and the newspaper, watch soaps, game and cooking shows, curling and figure skating, and skunking someone at a game of crib. She loved when friends stopped by for a visit, hand numbing phone calls with her sisters and brothers or cousin Bob and all day shop til you drop. She had some amazing collections of spoons, thimbles, salt and pepper shakers, snow babies, antique glass, purses, shoes and coats! One of her proudest accomplishments was beating breast cancer. But her favourite role was being Grams to Eric and Danielle. There were many puzzles put together, games played, questions answered, stories told, laughter and hugs. She was always baking them their favourite nanaimo bars and scuffles, and with much love and patience taught them both to win and lose at crib. Mom was the heart and foundation of the family. She leaves a legacy of love and our hearts rich in memories. Predeceased by her parents Raymond and Pauline (nee Poppenheim) Peppler; husband Duncan in January 2004; sister Caren and brothers-in-law Keith Schmaltz and Ken Sokolan. She will be lovingly remembered by son Cory; daughters Cara (Rheal) and Candace; her grandchildren Eric and Danielle; her sister Marva Schmaltz, brothers Clint (Rayna) and Randy (Faye), many nieces and nephews and special friends and neighbours.
