DENNIS - Helen Dennis passed away in the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on December 25, 2016, at the age of 93 years. Born July 11, 1923 in Canora, SK, she was the daughter of immigrants, Klim and Pauline (Zaplitney) Wolkowski, who farmed near Tiny, SK. Helen worked at the Canora Union Hospital and helped her mother on the farm in her early years. She received her early education at Tiny School where she loved to play ball and participate in field days. She married Alex Dennis of Canora on October 9,1949, and they had two daughters, Zoria and Sonia. Alex and Helen ran the Red and White store in Canora for 39 years with Mike and Mary Dennis until their retirement in 1985. They were active and dedicated members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Canora, where Helen was a long-serving member of the Ladies Aid and Church Choir. Her faith was very important to her. Helen and Alex had a large garden and flower beds in Canora on which they lavished much care and attention. She was an avid and skilled seamstress, making clothes for the girls and eventually the grandchildren. Alex and Helen were fortunate to be able to travel before and after their retirement, to Palm Springs, Hawaii, Mexico, Europe as well as parts of Canada. The most important things in Helen’s life were her love for family and the joy she had from cooking and baking for family gatherings. Zoria and Sonia remember her strength, determination and all her hard work. The value of education was very important to her and she was proud that her children and grandchildren had all graduated from universities. Her family was important to her and she knew she was loved by all of them. As ‘Baba,’ she took particular joy from her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Helen and Alex moved to Yorkton in 2006 due to failing health. Helen was a resident of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home since 2011. The family is extremely grateful for the support, dedication, love and care that Sonia and Larry Pearen provided to Baba daily while she was in Yorkton. She was very fortunate to have them so near. She looked forward to the daily phone visits with Zoria. The visits from her grandchildren and families were very precious to her. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Helen was predeceased by her parents, sisters: Annie (Frank) Zarazun, Olga (Joe) Chabun, and Adeline (Joe) Grodzinski; and brothers, Mike and Edward (Joy Trenholme). She is survived by her daughters, Zoria and husband Ric Syme of Winnipeg, MB and their son, Ryan (Andrea Ram) Syme of Canmore, AB and children, Malcolm and Fletcher, daughter Heather (Scott) Miller of Winnipeg, MB and children, Bennett and Kenzie; and Sonia and her husband Larry Pearen of Yorkton, SK; and their children Stacey (John) Pantazopoulos of Calgary, AB and children Nicholas and Noah; and Lea (Eric) Morrison of Saskatoon, SK and children: Isaac, Declan and Brielle. A Prayer Service for Helen Dennis was held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora. The Funeral Service commenced at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 30, 2016, from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora, with Rev. Father Michael Faryna officiating, and Cantor and Choir Director, Adeline Zawislak. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the nursing home for their care and attention of Baba during this time, Dr. A. Van Heerden and the staff of the Yorkton Regional Health Centre for her care in the last days of her life. She appreciated the many family visits and numerous phone calls. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Helen Dennis. Family and friends unable to attend are invited to sign an on-line guest book for Helen at www.lesonsfuneralhome. ca. Arrangements were entrusted to LESON’S FUNERAL HOME, Canora.

BIELINSKI - MaryRose Yvonne Bielinski (Lamontagne) was born to Hector and Eva Lamontagne on December 23, 1935, in Windsor Lake District. She was the youngest of eight children; Romeo, Rita, Henry, Violet, Ida, Lucien, Rose and MaryRose. She attended school at Windsor Lake until grade 7, and then went to Marcelin Convent for grade 8. After her schooling, in 1952, she went to work for the telephone office in Marcelin. Then in 1954, MaryRose went to work with her sister Ida in road construction as a cook’s helper. That was where she met Zygmundt Bielinski. Zig and MaryRose were married three months after they met, on December 28, 1955. In 1958, Beverly was born. Zig continued to work with the Floyd Barber Road Construction crew. Then in 1959, MaryRose and Zig bought a restaurant and gas station with MaryRose’s sister, Rita and her husband Arthur, in Saltcoats. In 1963, MaryRose and Zig went out on their own with their own restaurant and gas station business, which was located 7 miles west of Yorkton on highway 52. It was there that their second daughter, Carol, was born. In 1968, Donald, their son, was born. MaryRose was an innovator before her time. She was an incredible cook, and with three small children underfoot, was able to manage both the service station and the restaurant on her own, while Zig worked on the highway crews for many years. When obstacles were in her path, she never gave up. When the Yellowhead route was changed removing the highway traffic from their business, they had the foresight and courage to move their business from Highway 52 west of Yorkton. In 1969, the service station was re-located to its current location on Highway 16, just on the outskirts of Yorkton. It was called Zig’s Gulf. Later on in 1992, the service station was torn down and rebuilt as Humpty’s PetroCanada. MaryRose and her son, Don, co-managed the restaurant and service station until 2006. She was able to build a successful business with her husband Zig, and then again with her son Don, employing many people for over 50 years. In 2007, MaryRose moved into the Queen Elizabeth as Zig was now living in a nursing home in Saltcoats, due to his declining health. MaryRose lived at the Queen Elizabeth until a couple weeks prior to her passing. MaryRose had many loves. She was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed reading, music and dancing (when she was young). She loved games of chance, especially playing cards and bingo. She loved to laugh and share jokes; we weren’t always sure of the punch line, but it was funny. She thoroughly enjoyed her time at Queen Elizabeth, making new, true friends. They planned and organized all kinds of functions for fellowship, cooperated on designing flower gardens on the patio and were so mindful of taking care of one another. It was truly a great place for her to live. She also truly loved her family, and was always so proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She made herself available to help out in whatever way she could, and especially enjoyed babysitting. MaryRose was predeceased by her husband, Zig; her parents, Hector and Eva Lamontagne and her siblings, Romeo, Henry, Rita, Violet, Ida and Rose. She leaves to mourn her children, Beverly Bielinski of Yorkton, Carol Sarich (Phil) of Saskatoon and Don (Tracy) Bielinski of Yorkton; grandchildren, Jonathon (Sara) Kerr of Minneapolis, Kendra Kerr of Yorkton, Jace and Joshua Bielinski of Yorkton; great grandchildren, Carter and Liam Potzus, Hudson, Hailey and Logan Kerr; her brother, Lucien (Jeanette) Lamontagne, and sister-in-law, Claire Lamontagne, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance was held on Thursday, December 29, 2016, from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK, officiated by Father Francis Hengen. The cross bearers were Don Bielinski and family. Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by MaryRose’s granddaughter, Kendra Kerr. The pianist, Rita Hilbig, and members of the St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church Choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Amazing Grace”, “Psalm 90”, “Song of the Angels” and “Morning Has Broken.” MaryRose’s greatgrandson, Carter Potzus shared a piano solo, “Carol of the Bells”. All of MaryRose’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were honourary pall bearers and her grandson, Jonathan Kerr was the urn bearer. A private family cremation committal will take place at a later date. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
