DERKATCH - Laurie Derkatch, beloved husband of Mary Derkatch of Mikado, SK, passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on January 12, 2017, at the age of 83 years. Laurie was born February 24, 1933, the eldest child of Joe and Olga (Ostafie) Derkatch. He attended Mazeppa school, a small cottage school a mile and a half from his childhood home. When he was old enough to operate a tractor, he helped his father on the family farm. Laurie met the love of his life, Mary Boychuk, at a Vionne school picnic; they were neighbours on the farm living only 7 miles apart. They were united in marriage on October 10, 1953. After they were married, they moved to Moose Jaw where Laurie worked as a painter at B.A. Oil Refinery. In the spring of 1955 they made their home in Canora where Laurie drove truck for the Orange Crush Company. In 1960 they relocated to the Mikado area where Laurie and Mary took over the family farm from Laurie’s Dad. That same year they were blessed with their first child Cheryl. In 1968 Laurie began driving school bus for the Canora School Division which he continued for 33 years. Laurie and Mary had their second child Kevin, born August 26, 1968. In 1972, Kevin became ill and passed away, January 11, 1973. In 1976, Laurie and Mary welcomed their third child, Derek. Laurie and Mary continued to operate the family farm until their retirement. Laurie was very active in sports, playing hockey for many years in Mikado, was an active member of the Mikado curling rink and was well known around the ball diamonds; many of his fondest memories were created with the Burgis Lakers ball team. While Derek was growing up, Laurie enjoyed coaching him in hockey and baseball. Laurie was also fond of music and for many years he played guitar in the family band that performed at events around the Mikado area. Laurie was also an active member of the St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church in Mikado. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Laurie was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Olga Derkatch; his in-laws, Sam and Anne Boychuk; son, Kevin and brother-inlaw, Edward German. Laurie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his loving wife, Mary; daughter, Cheryl and son, Derek (Robyn); his dog, Yogi; sisters, Alice German and Jean (Allen) Kobylka and his brothers-in-law: Bill (Marge) Boychuk, Lawrence (Jean) Boychuk and Ron Boychuk; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. WERNER - Timothy (Tim) Ryan Werner, eldest son of Barb and Evan Werner, was born on January 8, 1977, in Yorkton, SK. On January 10, 2017, he passed away unexpectedly at home at the young age of 40 years. Tim attended Springside Elementary School, Yorkdale School and the Yorkton Regional High School. After graduating, Tim worked various jobs, starting with helping on the family farm, which he loved. He then proceeded to get on at Ram Industries, with his Dad. After realizing that was not for him, he ventured on to put in time at Gross Construction, Heartland Livestock and The Gallagher Centre. Returning back to farming, he took a job working for Alan Payne. After a few years in farming, he decided to acquire his 1-A license and took a trucking job with Venture Construction out of Martensville, SK. Wanting to be closer to home, he finally settled down at Trimac/ Canamera Carriers in Yorkton. In August of 2003, Tim met the love of his life, Tracey Townsend, from Preeceville. After three years together, Tim finally proposed and they were married on July 22, 2006. It was one of the best days they ever shared together. Wanting to create even more love in their lives, they hoped to become parents. This dream came true on August 14, 2007, as Tim and Tracey welcomed their beautiful daughter, Taylor into the world. From the first time he saw her, Taylor was Daddy’s little girl. As Tim was no spring chicken, they decided to have another child and on July 20, 2009, their son Trayton was born. He quickly became Daddy’s little-man. Taylor and Trayton made Tim’s life complete. He told Tracey, after his children were born, that he now had everything he had ever dreamed of - a loving wife, and two amazing children. Tim set out to teach his children independence, happiness and love. Whether he was rocking them to sleep at night or teaching them how to hunt and fish, he was always there for them and was passionate about instilling his enthusiasm for life and determination in his children. Tim spent every day doing the things he loved. He volunteered endless hours to numerous community clubs, including the Springside Volunteer Fire Department, the Whitesand Wildlife Federation, the Springside Recreation Association, the Springside Summer Sizzle and the Springside Stoney Coulee Blackhawks Hockey Team. His favourite passions were hunting, fishing, hockey and Rock and Roll - and the social aspect that came with it all. He was truly excited when he found out that his in-laws had prime hunting property that he could call home. He exemplified what it meant to live each day as if it were your last. Tim is survived by his wife of 10 years, Tracey; his children, Taylor (9) and Trayton (7); his parents, Evan and Barb Werner of Springside, SK; his brothers, Corey (Jeanie) and family, Khloe, Kendall and William of Yorkton, SK, Clayton (Tracy) and family, Tegean, Brennen and Graham Buckle of Yorkton, SK and Tyler (Jodi) of Lampman, SK; his grandparents, Martha Werner of Springside, SK and Russell and Gwen Wilson of Yorkton, SK. He also leaves to mourn his passing, Tracey’s parents, Gordon and Bev Townsend of Preeceville, SK; sisters-in-law, Kelley (John) Wog and Kristopher of Yorkton, SK, Janine Graves, Alexia and Braxton of Marquis, SK, and Rayne Townsend (Reece Chorneyko) of Kamsack, SK; Grandmothersin-law, Alice Toth and Phyllis Townsend of Preeceville, SK as well as numerous, loving (Great) Aunts, (Great) Uncles, cousins, friends and coworkers. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Harry Werner and cousin, Brennan Werner. STACHURA - Margaret Mary Anne Stachura (Gress) was born on September 3, 1934 to George and Anne (Kormos) Gress on the family farm near Otthon, SK and was the second of five children. In 1936 the family moved to a farm near Bangor, SK where Margaret attended school. In 1952 the Gress family left their farm in Bangor to move to Yorkton, SK where Margaret worked at various jobs. It was in Yorkton, at a dance, that she met the love of her life, Edmond Stachura, also from Yorkton. They were united in marriage on July 23, 1956. This past summer they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at York Lake with family and friends. Edmond and Margaret spent their lives farming in the Pebble Lake district. They were blessed with seven children. In 1993, they moved to Yorkton, but continued farming. They continued to live in their home until, due to failing health, Marge was hospitalized in November, 2016. She passed at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She enjoyed socializing, dancing and playing cards with friends and family. Margaret’s passion was caring for her family. She loved her family deeply and was a generous and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her warm heart and giving nature made all feel welcomed and special. She had her own sense of humour that brought a smile to our faces. She was the patchwork that held our family together. Even when her life got increasingly more difficult she rarely complained and would assure us she was fine, typically making it easier for her family. She had few wants and always cherished family get-togethers, stories or pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Always appreciative of every visit and for even the smallest of things we did for her. Her family and friends will always remember how much they enjoyed her good company, her stories, her laughter, her good food and her generosity.
