Dance Transports An exciting regional training programme for Yorkshire which offers teachers, dance artists and those involved in the delivery of dance an opportunity to work alongside professional dance companies and gain valuable insights and training.

Each hub is a partnership of local organisations and agencies from a variety of sectors, each with an interest in youth dance: the education, sports, arts, local authority and health sectors.

Luca Silvestrini’s Protein Participate: an Intergenerational Dance Practice Workshop Tue 12 & Wed 13 Jan 2016, 10am - 4pm Doncaster CAST Waterdale, DN1 3BU Over the last 15 years, Protein has built an international profile for exciting and inclusive dance experiences in different community settings, working with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Led by Luca Silvestrini, this workshop is a professional development opportunity for dance practitioners who are interested in inspiring or developing their thinking and skills in community dance, with a particular focus on intergenerational practice.

This workshop will include practical and reflective work, and allow space for sharing and debate around dance-making and community practice.

Dr Richard Coaten Dance & Dementia: Dancing the In-between Thu 21 & Fri 22 Jan 2016, 10am - 4pm Barton upon Humber The Ropewalk Maltkiln Road, DN18 5JT An experienced dancer and Dance Movement Psychotherapist, Richard has worked with older people and those living with dementia for 30 years. His vision is for a network of dancers nationwide, bringing joyful, celebratory movement and dance to some of the most frail and vulnerable in our society. He works regionally in the NHS, nationally and internationally to raise the profile of movement, dance & dementia.

“There’s never been a better time or greater societal need for isolated and lonely older people, particularly those living with dementia and their carers, to be offered high-quality community-based movement and dance experiences.

This mix of theoretical and practical movement and dance-based work aims to inspire and give confidence to those starting out, and to those more experienced, to develop and become part of a ‘Community of Practice’ and grow this vital work throughout Yorkshire.”

Primed for Life Developing quality dance practice for early years children Mon 22 & Tue 23 Feb 2016, 10am - 4pm Northallerton The Forum Bullamoor Road, DL6 1LP This two day training will increase practitioners’ understanding of the value of children’s access to quality movement and dance activities, given current social and educational climates, and develop your unique role as a dance artist working with early years children.

This workshop will be a mix of theory, practical and group work, exploring approaches, structures and resources to extend and enliven your creative practice with early years children in community and educational settings.

Led by Primed For Life – advocating the prime importance of movement and dance for early years children – bringing together specialisms of early education (EYFS) and community dance.

Vicki Igbokwe | Uchenna Dance Cultural Fusion Thu 10 & Fri 11 Mar 2016, 10am - 4pm Shipley DM Academy The Studios, Briggate, BD17 7BT In 2007 Vicki was introduced to House Dance in a London club, it was an instant love affair with this style, its music and culture. A few months later she made her first annual trip to New York where she immersed herself in the underground dance scene discovering Waacking and Vogue.

This workshop will be an opportunity for Vicki to share her practice-based research with practitioners working with club, Hip-Hop and African styles that want to further explore their creative skills focusing on style foundations and fusion.

Practitioners will work practically over the two days with time to reflect and space to share ideas around choreography and teaching.

Tim Casson Choreography with young people and communities Sat 19 & Sun 20 Mar 2016, 10am - 4pm Hull Hull College Queens Gardens, Wilberforce Drive, HU1 3DG This two-day training led by professional dance artist Tim Casson, will explore ways into making work with young people and in communities. Exploring a personcentred approach to making dance, Tim will explore starting points for the creative process, choreographic structures and lead a series of creative exercises and tasks that will challenge, inspire and invigorate.

Originally from North Yorkshire, Tim Casson has performed and taught extensively for Jasmin Vardimon, also performing for Nigel Charnock, Katie Green and Ben Wright. He regularly leads educational projects at various levels for dance organisations including Sadler’s Wells where he has worked with the National Youth Dance Company. He is Associate Artist at Pavilion Dance South West, created the World Record Breaking project The Dance WE Made and directs his company Casson & Friends.

We create opportunities for people to experience dance by working with partners in local authorities and the arts, in health and in sport, building a region-wide infrastructure for dance development.
