As an architecture designer and Midwest-educated student, I believe that architecture should connected to the urban context, and the broader landscape of the region. More importantly, architecture creation is supposed to elaborate the relationship between nature and human inhabitation, to convey characteristics of the land we reside.

As human inhabitation, architecture has the power to inspire and lighten spirit, to feed both the mind and body. It has a tremendous effect not only on our aesthetic experience but on our physical health and emotional wellbeing. With the ultimate goal of creating spaces that are comfortable, healthy, and both visually and emotionally compelling.

As an architect, the role of one should be provider, not recipient. Architects need to proactively coordinate the work and responsibilities of all parties to deliver a building which fits client's requirements and expresses architect's design intention. From my 2 years professional experiece, I learned that architects should be leading, not reacting.

Jesolo,Italy

Surpervisor: Stefan Scheiber-Loeis

Co-worker: Minh Nguyen, Roger Li, Marylynn Antaki

With 83 residential units and a SPA on the ground floor, the The Tower is setting a unique standard for a luxurious residential building in Jesolo. One can better understand the change of scale if seen from the beach in relationship to the beach front buildings where the new tower is placed respectfully in the background yet dominant in its height but with diligently crafted details reaching out into the urban fabric.

The new Kiwoom Finance Square tower will replace the current 40 year old building located in the heart of Yeoiu-do, an international financial hub in Seoul, Korea. An iconic, striking, and innovative landmark is envisioned for Kiwoom’s flagship headquarters tower, representing the ideals and corporate values of Kiwoom Securities and Daou Kiwoom Group

Memory Container

Spring 2016 | Individual work

Nanjing, China

Instructor: Li Li

This project is design a perfoming center in a dense area public space is relatively scarce. The street is the main public space for people in the Site. Streets are not only the most important spatial characteristics of this area, but also the carrying body of public memory. To hold the old memery and matain the spatial characteristic, the streets were presented a modern way .

03 |

SITE STRATAGE

The site is located in the old South City of Nanjing which is a important residential area of Nanjing from ancient times to the present. The street is the main public space and almost all of the residents' public activities occur in the streets.

Then the concept of lanes to preserve the old memory of the site was proposed.

Based on the concept of lanes as an approach to preserve the memory of the old city, series of strategies are developed to shape the architectural space: sectorizing the required programs in consideration of the context; organizing the lanes and building blocks with the need of spatial sequence, circulation, and outdoor space; and finally setting a central plaza as the hub of the community.

Learning from the traditional forms of buildings, the façade is also in respect of the cultural identity.

Three main entrances of the performing center are interacted with the street public spaces in the neighborhood. Open public space in this project is connected with the exisiting city open public space. Square and center plaza provide space to gather for the public.

Every single box is a separate box structure, boxes of second floor are placed on the boxes of first floor. Such a structure form can creat a lot of setback platform for public activities.

Fall 2020(Degree Project) Individual work

St. Louis, MO

Instructor: Philip Holden

Justice buildings in the united states are normally not welcoming and the spaces are intimidating which is not the architectural way to represent a democratic society. Started from the humanistic point of view, this project is trying to make a courthouse that conveys social justice and democracy. This idea was originally inspired by the PNYX which is the courthouse of ancient Athens and is just a giant rock open to the all citizens. This design tries to combine the idea of totally public space with the complicated and strict requirements of program, circulation and security control.

STRUCTURE

A Montessori School

Fall 2019 | Individual work

St. Louis, MO

Instructor: Robert McCarter

The Montessori Method of Education, developed by Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children. Montessori's method has been used for over 100 years in many parts of the world. This project is design a montessori school in St. Louis.

PLANNING

The beginning assumption of your design should be that all asphalt paving will be removed from the site boundaries, and we are able to re-grade the earth as needed and give the entire site an urban garden character appropriate to the Montessori School.

Urban Neuron

Fall 2016 | Individual work

Rome, Italy

Instructor: Tang Peng, Zhu yuan

This project is offerring a suggestion to regenerate one decadent ared of Rome city, in where ubran bones, fabrics, pedestrian traffic, enviroment system and urban life are cut off by the huge railways. Through the analysis of the urban structure of Rome, I proposed integrate the elements to build a New Neuron for Rome city and repair it.

06 |

SITE PLAN

At the scale of the city, this area cut out the urban life and turism loop. At the neighborhood scale, the Northern and Southern neighborhoods are isolated from the railyard and service areas with only a few traffic thruways linking them.

Furthermore, there are complicated and chaotic traffic networks, nonfunctional buildings and poorly connected blocks in the boundary between rail-system and city.

URBAN DESIGN EVALUATION SYSTEM

This system is mainly composed of two parts of the system. The first part of the system mainly allows the public to walk freely in the VR environment of the design solution, and builds an operating system for transitional movement and UI control. The second part of the system is data collection and visualization that collects walking data and tagged data to process it in a database and visualizes it for the designer.

DEVELOPER'S POINT OF VIEW

This system has great significance for public participation design. It shows the urban design scheme more intuitively and multi-dimensionally, which is convenient for the public to understand and enhance the enthusiasm of participation. It can stimulate the public's interest and provide designers with the public's feedback on the program. The visualization of big data statistics makes the feedback of the problem clearer and more intuitive, and it is easy to adjust the solution. The capture and statistical presentation of subliminal information provides a pragmatic basis for the improvement of the design. The virtual environment makes the modification and adjustment of the scheme more convenient, by conserving, financial resources and time.
