ROAD COLLECTION

CE-TESTED, APPROVED AND CERTIFIED

In summer 2018, it became mandatory that all motorcycling garments produced for European market should be CE-tested and certified to meet with the requirements of all new, higher level of CE-standard. And that’s what we did. YOKO motorcycling garments are now considered CATEGORY II Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as defined by Regulation EU 2016/425. Our motorcycling jackets and gloves pants have undergone a conformity assesment procedure and subsequent, relevant, Certification at a Notified European Body. Placement of the CE Marking on the protective garment indicates conformity with the Basic Health and Safety Requirements of regulation EU 2016/425.

TESTING METHODS

All our CE-certified motorcycling garments have undergone the following tests:

1. Darmstadt abrasion test to make sure the fabrics don’t break in the specific abrasion and impact areas they are used.

2. Chemical tests to assure there are no dye or other substances in the fabrics that could be harmful for users

3. A tear test and seam-strength test is performed on all the material/seam type combos used in the garments, to assure they are strong enough for their designated abrasion and impact areas.

4. Impact protectors are tested for their impact protection ability but also for their correct position in the garment, before and after accident.

5. Ergonomic tests, to assure that the garments are not tight or loose and don’t restrict or hinder the rider’s ability to control the bike.

CE-MARKING

Yoko motorcycling garments are certified as CLASS A (prEN 170924:2017) protective garments. This marking can be found inside all Yoko motorcycle jackets and pants produced after 7-2018

ROAD COLLECTION

Eltsu is the short name for Eläintarha (Zoo), an area and sports field in Helsinki, which was the venue for legendary Finnish Grand Race (Eltsun ajot), a street race for bikes and cars that ran between 1932 and 1963. Here Yoko CEO Jani Gustafsson is “casually” chilling in front of the original grand stands of Eltsu’s track and field stadium which is located on the in-field of the past street track and served as the paddock for the Grand Races. Yoko’s multi functional premium suit Eltsu is the Jack of all trades as far as motorcycling suits go. It can be adjusted to a wide range of conditions, from temperatures of 0°C to 30°C. It works flawlessly in daily commuting, European touring trips or for example on an adventure trip from Siberia to Finland. It’s already been tried and tested in all of that.

Jätkä is a Finnish slang word for “dude” and we named the the suit after Jätkäsaari (Dude Island), an area in Helsinki, where you can find YOKO headquarters but also a modern passenger harbour, which for many is the gateway to continental Europe, especially in the summer time. Jätkä suit is a comfortable, light weight and simply put, a “bullet proof” touring suit for the mild climate areas of Scandinavia and Europe and UK. Our head designer Seppo modelling here, however, isn’t going anywhere. He’s just casually checking his phone and telling Jani to turn the photo reflector, all while trying to look like he means business.

Yoko Bulsa is a functional all-around suit for city cruising but but can also be used on longer trips, in mild climates. Bulsa comes separate in a men’s version but also but also in a ladies’ version with optimal fit for ladies, and bit more feminine touch to it. Our social media and marketing guy Kusti leans heavily on his wife Laura when it comes to posing, but as a content creator he’s an absolute beast. He is also very opinionated about a lot of stuff, so naturally he’s involved in the testing and develepoment process of most of our items.

Arttu Stenberg here is one of the best stunt riders in the world, with 300 K Instagram followers and millions of views to his videos. This young man popped up on the stunt scene five years ago with some impressive tricks on a125 supermoto. But now that he’s been aboard a 450 for a couple of years, the level of his tricks has gone trough the roof, and seems like only the sky is the limit. Henry Valo is a man with many hats at the YOKO headquarters, taking care of logistics, billing, the product register, but also does some modelling from time to time. One thing he doesn’t do at all, is motorcycling. But at least here he is hanging at a skate park, because actually he used to skateboard a lot and still does so, occasionally. The Skloddi suit is pretty sweet looking moto suit, equipped with CE protectors, which can be taken off in case you want to use it as a casual jacket. For skateboarding however, one could leave those protectors in.

Here’s a mean looking picture portraying Yoko Stadi Leather Jacket, Hietsu kevlar jeans, Kurvi open face helmet, a Husqvarna Vitpilen and our head designer Seppo Manninen. In 2019 our designer Seppo did his daily 100 km commuting on a motorcycle, going trough the whole range of Yoko gear in conditions varying from +2°C drizzling rain, grazy thunderstorms with hail to scorching + 35°C heat. By the end of the riding season there was a total of 6000 kilometres added on odometer of the bike. On that note, we are confident in saying that our gear works awesome.

The production of sports garments for different disciplines, from xc-skiing to bicycling, motorcycling and snowmobiling, gives us the benefit of applying proven technologies from one discipline to another. Another key element is our design team who have over 30 years of riding and racing experience in motorcross. Third and really a crucial part of YOKO motocross gear R&D is our collaboration with Rockstar IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing. The team manager, a former GP podium guy Antti Pyrhönen runs a tight ship. The endless hours put to get the best out the riders and the bikes places high demands on every aspect of the team including the riding gear. Already on the first year of our co-operation, the team was stoked with our innovative products but also gave us plenty of valuable feedback to make our stuff even better.

YOKO OFFROAD HISTORY

PREMIUM QUALITY - RIDDEN BY LEGENDS Yoko has 40 years of experience and expertise in designing and manufacturing quality sportswear using first-rate materials. Designed in Finland, where the challenging climate calls for proper equipment, our products are intended to serve their user under any circumstances, from outdoor and leisure activities to the most demanding competition conditions, regardless of the season. It is our passion and duty to manufacture exactly the right products to fit your demands, whether you are a recreational exerciser or a professional athlete. The story of Yoko begins in 1977 in Forssa, Finland, when Juha Tirinen and Kaija Gustafsson founded a sportswear manufacturing company named JOKO. Juha Tirinen was an international level motocross racer, so Joko naturally began to branch out into motocross gear, starting its endeavor in co-operation with a brand called Moto-X Fox. The first items born of this collaboration were Moto-X Fox gloves manufactured by Joko. Soon Fox founder Geoff Fox told Tirinen that in his opinion, Joko should be written with a Y instead of a J, so Joko became Yoko. Later on, Tirinen suggested that Geoff replace the letter O in “FOX” with the Fox head symbol.

1. During the late 70s and early 80s, YOKO and Moto-X Fox logos co-existed on the gear of legendary names such as Brad Lackey, Mark Barnett, Graham Noyce, all of whom delivered Yoko and Fox World AMA Championship titles. 2. It wasn’t until 1982 that Yoko and Fox started selling their gear separately. Still, Fox gear (along with Oneal, AXO, Answer, Hallman Husky etc.) was produced at the Yoko Factory in Finland until the early 90s. Motorcycling gear was also added to the Yoko repertoire at this time. And in 1983, Swede Håkan Carlgvist captured his second World Championship title in 1983, this time in the 500cc class.

3. Yoko riders swept the 1984 World Championship in all three classes, with Italian Michele Rinaldi taking the 125cc title, Austrian Heinz Kinigadner winning the 250cc class, and Belgian Andre Malherbe the premier 500cc class. Heinz Kinigadner won the 250cc World Championship in 1985 in Yoko gear. Also in 1985 the Yoko rider and British legend David Thorpe won the 1985 and -86 Motocross World Championships in the 500 cc class. For more World

YOKO OFFROAD FUTURE

WORLD CHAMPIONS IN THE MAKING In 2018, we started push back to the top of motocross. A new company Yoko Europe was founded in Lommel, Belgium to take sole responsibility of distributing and marketing Yoko products in Europe and around the globe. Since 2019 we’ve been involved in the MXGP and EMX World Championships, in the form hooking up with some very promising talent but also also some already established riders and teams. The added exposure has been good, but the biggest reward has been the feedback from the teams and riders, which has pushed us to make our products even better.

In 2019 we signed one of the most promising rising stars of the future, a 14 year old Liam Everts to a multi year deal. Motocross runs deep in the Everts family with grandpa Harry having won four Motocross World Championships and father Stefan’s record 10 World Championships. In 2020 Liam started the year strong by dominating the first EMX125 round in Great Britain. Then next weekend, a last minute decision saw him dip his feet in a couple of rounds of the highly competitive EMX250 series, finishing well within the top then in both races. His season was cut short by an injury when the EMX125 resumed in Faenza Italy after the corona break. In 2021 Liam will move up to the EMX250 class, and judging by the glimpses we saw him in that class in 2020, we could see some fireworks!

For 2019–2021 YOKO signed with Rockstar Iceone Husqvarna Factory Racing. An agreement that would see Yoko become the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing MXGP team’s official riding gear and teamwear supplier through the end of the 2021 season. The team, owned by Finnish F1 superstar Kimi Räikkönen and ran by former Finnish MXGP rider Antti Pyrhönen. For 2021 MXGP season the team will field two riders, Lithuanian Arminas Jasikonis and Danish Thømas Kjer Olsen.
