Team SBOA wins TCS IT WIZ – Chennai

By YOCee Team Kids of these days are wiz, no doubt.

When it comes to prove your tech-knowledge, you need to compete with equally brainy people.

That is what happened at the TCS IT WIZ, Chennai on Aug. 18, 2011 held at the Music Academy.

After a tough prelims as described by the quiz master Pickbrain Bala, six teams went up on stage to fight for the first place in the regional finals. DAV Boys, Mogappair, PSBB KK Nagar, SBOA, Bala Vidya Mandir, Chettinad Vidyashram and Hindu Sr.Sec School were the teams picking up all the points at the finals.

From the first round Team SBOA was maintaining the lead followed by Bala Vidya Mandir.

Spring and Zoom, an activity centre for children, Namma Arcot Road, a neighbourhood group and Hotel Green Park came together to celebrate Madras Week. Among other activities, was an evening full of traditional activities for children.

Li’l Krishnas and Radhas at Bamboola Bamboola Play school and activity centre in R.A. Puram was transformed into a mini Vrindavan with all the young children dressed up as divine deities – Krishna and Radha on the Janmashtami day.

Presenting the city's heritage It was Madras and Chennai, that was heard everywhere last week.

For the past few years now, people from various walks of life have begun to celebrate the city of Chennai. August 22 is celebrated as Madras Day or Chennai Dinam in our own language.

There are reasons to celebrate the city's history, heritage and culture.

Chennai is home to many firsts in India and the story of how the city came up to be what it is today is interesting. There are well-known landmarks and monuments in Chennai as in other cities around the world. But the lesser known places are the ones that fascinate every person who observes their city keenly.

The multimedia presentation contest for schoolchildren, hosted every year during the Madras Week aims at making the children explore the hidden histories of Chennai.

This year the contest was held on Aug. 23 at Srinivasa Sastri Hall in Mylapore which has a history of its own spanning to a century.

Good old Madras in PSBB, K K Nagar Exhibitions, contests and presentations - all about Madras were part of the Madras Week celebrations at PSBB school in K K Nagar.

The inauguration of the exhibitions of photos, drawings, coins, books and antiques was also the day for distribution of prizes for various contest-winners. Kolams and quizzing were among the contests children took part in.

When the dean of PSBB schools, Mrs. YGP asked the students to sing happy birthday to Madras, the children took it up to sing in Sanskrit.

The heritage wellpreserved and presented aptly for the day.

The student volunteers who helped in setting up the exhibitions were curious to explore the story of the exhibits.

A trip to Madras

A group of children from Rani Meyyammai Girls Hr. Sec. School, R.A.Puram went on a trip to north Madras as part of the exchange event organised for the Madras Week. Ashok Leyland offered their Fun Bus for the trip and the Women’s wing of Avvai Kalai Kazhagam, Royapuram guided the kids in the old parts of Chennai.
