A skyscraper for not future, but now
It’s been a dream for us to live on Mars; now, the future is arriving. This design takes the inspiration from Elon Musk and his dream for space X.
The Marscraper is a prototype which is able to disassemble and reconstruct by itself. It’s an experimental skyscraper for our needs on Mars. On the other hand, it reveals the Mars generation is coming. We build the first generation prototype in Taipei, Taiwan using modular units, which can compress space to a minimum when transporting and to be assembled in a short period of time. Thus could be the critical factor that is ideal for colonizing Mars.
There are three types of flipable wall on first floor, which can provide larger indoor square, out showing TV wall, and a mystery aisle to the entrance. There is also a prototype of unstaffed store on the other side. The lane preset at B2F is for connecting to expressway underground. By using robotic arm on the surrounded elevator, we can replace modular units on regular floors. The removed units can be folded into a size of countainer, and transported by trucks at the unloading zone on the groung floor. People are able to reach their units without contacting others by the surrounded elevator, too. The surrounded elevator is able to move vertically by tracks on 10 columns outermost, and horizontally by tracks surrounded, which set for each three floors. Because of the surrounded tracks, by particular floors’ modular units are unable to be disassembled. Thus, we make it to be multifunction public space on those floors. In addition to a training and simulating Mars field with ladder on 31 floor, an aquaponic farm is designed on the highest floor since the harsh weather on Mars. It’s unable to plant outdoor during the -70 degrees Celsius nights.
Now is the era of everyone using the same type of smartphone, next trend will be co-driving the same car. I believe that people living in the same type of dwelling can congregate modules or create a co-living model.
My idea for third project conceived from a place I feel calm in Tamsui. I often go there when I get bad moods or have bad emotions to process. As for me, to have a calm and tranquil place as secret space to stay alone is necessary, especially in this busy noisy city.
Greenery always give healing and comforting effect. City is where I live, but nature is my home. Whenever I lie under the stars, go above the clouds, watching the horizon behind the ocean, I feel the real relax. The feeling is addictive and it can only get in the nature.
In my design, I want to create calm places for people in the busy city to have their self-review. People here set up their own time line, no need to be compared with others. Everytime they come back to here, they can think about what they have done between the period of time. Before they leave, they make a goal or wish to thierselves.
I picked a park in Xinyi district as site. It’s the place has most office buildings and most night clubs in Taiwan. In my opinion, both office workers and young people are the groups get confused easily.
Program:Barber’s shop
Everyone has their own time zone. It’s more important for us to schedule our own timeline and knowing what’s our goal. Since everyone cut their hair in uneven period of time, I think if we can notice every period time between every hair cut, and have a self-review, maybe we can get more concentrate on what we are making afford to.
The cutting hair after processing can become fertilizer for plants in the park. When the flowers blooming, it may have another meaning for people went there.

Spaces beside river also give me tranquil atmosphere. Aquatic plants and river not only separate the individual spaces, but also provide an objective for people to gaze at, helping them concentrate on their mind.
Rooftop space can be reached by the stone steps on the river. Curved rooftop are for people lying and watching sky. To my way of thinking, making people lying down can reduce their willing to scroll on their phone.
Short trees are for cutting off sight or encircle space for individuals. In the end of the stone steps in the river, it’s a space surrounding by water. Under the shadow of coconut tree, people can stay for longer time in the scorching sunshine.
On the top of the hill, grilles prvide the highest privacy.
Individual spaces are surrounded by flowers in clusters. People can choose shrubs to fertilize with thier processed cutting hair. When the flowers blooming, it may have another meaning for people went there.
Tall trees create spaces for individual too. Spaces were created under each of tall trees. People can sit on a stone or swing, even lay on a hammock.
The different height of the landscape is also a kind of obstacle to separate individual spaces. Space enclosure by the tree and the cobblestone.
Near the river's estuary, tidal changes affect both wildlife and human activities significantly. The Guandu Bridge was even constructed by using a tidal-based method. However, these tidal variations are often unnoticed by visitors who stay for a short time. By utilizing the natural properties and phenomena of the tide, I aim to amplify the tidal changes. I want to create a unique sensory experience for visitors at this tidal station, allowing them to connect more deeply with the rhythm of the tide and the bridge.
Connecting the main roads on both sides of the Tamsui River estuary
The closest bridge to the sea, making it the most affected by tidal changes
Tidal biological traces—Oyster shells, Barnacles
-Common characteristics: Mobile during the larval stage and attach to objects once mature, becoming immobile. Feed on microalgae (photosynthesis → shallow waters).
-Growth environment: Between saltwater and freshwater (intertidal zone at the river estuary).
Road Imps with Life
Transportation brings cities closer together, with cars being the most widespread and accessible means. Roads serve as the backbone of various urban systems, showcasing cultural differences and ways of life. "Roads" serve as carrier of life, connecting bustling cities to lively villages, leading to vast oceans, expansive mountains, and hidden corners of the earth. The anticipation for roads stems from an aspiration for life's possibilities.
Perhaps unnoticed, there are many“imps”on Taiwan's roads. However, due to their relationship with cars and roads, function of them often being monotonous. I've chosen a parking lot, two gas stations, and a drive thru as my sites. Aiming to disrupt their standardized architectural forms and create more public spaces. By doing so, these NIMBY facilities can transcend their role of serving cars and bring unique connectoions to community life for locals.
A green oasis extends from the parking lot besides hospital; Drive-thru mixing with snack stands, making it a chill spot for picnics where food trucks and cars in and out; Gas station and park connecting big roads to small alleys. Though breaking the most classic architectural forms might reduce certain aspects of economic efficiency, it makes these spaces a greater sense of vitality.
Importance of Transportation
The parking lot located next to the hospital is the first and last stop for visitors and patients. It is also an essential path way connecting the hospital to the commercial area. There fore, I want to create a space here that allows people to pause and shift their mood. The walkway extending from the parking lot weaves through the treetops, with several small, solitary spaces hidden among the leaves. Some of these spaces face to nature, while others offer a chance for self-reflection.
Drive-thrus are often enclosed by three high walls, but I plan to integrate the nearby food court with the KFC. The parking spaces surrounding the driveway will not only be for food trucks, but during non-business hours, customers who have purchased meals can open their car trunks and enjoy a picnic under the trees. "Parking" becomes a new boundary, with activities spreading from this gray area toward both cars and people.
Gas stations at intersections often block sidewalks, creating small islands for pedestrians. I try to use a rooftop greenbelt to connect pedestrian spaces, connecting to the community behind. As cars enter the gas station, the curved roads and ramps help reduce speed while directing sight to the sunken park in the back. While refueling, people can enjoy views of the upper tree corridor through the shadows of the leaves. Upon leaving, the sounds of laughter from dog walkers and picnickers on the grassy areas are transmitted through the void, it’s also a kind of recharging for people.
