Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Job Specification

Manage technical projects, in accordance with the instructions of the Principal Engineer / Unit Manager, to ensure that the specific requirements of the brief, provided by the Client in terms of costs, time and quality, are successfully delivered. Be active in the development and implementation of project management techniques and systems (e.g. YGC's Project Management Procedure, PRINCE2, Council's Project Management Manual etc.) to ensure that YGC is fully committed to meeting Clients' needs to provide value for money acting on commercial basis and adapt itself to compete effectively. Being responsible for managing flexible project teams, within the Unit and the Service in general, and providing guidance to team members.

Address all requirements in the context of financial management of projects and provide financial feedback to the Principal Engineer / Unit Managers on project and workload issues on a regular basis.

Perform contract commitments on construction projects.

Resolve contractual issues with organisations such as contractors and consultants.

Review and develop new procedures in accordance with the Council's policies and procedures, together with national developments.

Dealing with all National and EU improvement initiatives.

Fulfill the requirements of health and safety and environmental legislation.

Develop and maintain the skills and technical knowledge required to maintain and deliver YGC's core services.

Main Duties - Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Experienced and special Geo-Technical Engineer

Responsible for overseeing and managing the activities of specialist consultants and subcontractors.

Geogeographical project management on plans and carrying out feasibility studies, data collection, initial investigations, technical assessments, and design, administrative, quality and financial procedures.

Prepare health and safety and environmental plans before tendering.

Marketing the unit's work and capabilities to current and potential future clients.

Writing technical factual and analytical reports

Prepare programs and expenditure forecasts for projects.

Monitor and report to the project director (principal engineer / unit manager) on progress and actual costs and recommend and take corrective action when necessary.

Oversee the financial, administrative and technical management of construction, investigation, assessment or maintenance work carried out on behalf of the client.

Assist in resolving contractual issues on behalf of clients.

Undertake the duties required under CDM regulations

Engage with site supervisors throughout the life of the project.

Awareness of trunk road network statutory processes and structures e.g. CD622 and AIP
