A YMCA Fitness Program for Heart Health The YMCA Change of Heart program is a fully accessible program designed to provide support to individuals who are interested in or who have experienced difficulties with their heart health or who are at risk of heart disease. Our goal at YMCA Change of Heart is to support individuals who are ready to take their first step towards a happy, healthy heart.

Our dedicated YMCA Staff are passionate about working with individuals participating in YMCA Change of Heart and are committed to supporting participants in achieving their short and long term heart health goals. Our structured exercise classes welcome all participants who are considered low risk by their physicians. Those who have experienced a cardiac incident will be required to provide consent from a physician in advance of participating in YMCA Change of Heart.

are willing to participate in structured fitness programming which promotes balance and variety in a participants approach to a healthy lifestyle; want to engage in a shared physical and social space to develop in spirit, mind and body, and; who wish to build confidence in the skills necessary to improve individual health and wellbeing.

What to Expect

Led by highly trained and skilled YMCA Staff, YMCA Change of Heart involves two weekly sessions in a Halifax and Dartmouth location. Each session is comprised of four key parts: • • • •

Warm Up Cardiovascular Activities Muscular Strength & Endurance Stretch & Relaxation

Preparing for Change of Heart

While attending YMCA Change of Heart we recommend that you dress comfortably, wearing loose-fitting, lightweight clothing. You should have comfortable sneakers or shoes with non-slip soles which will help absorb impact during your participation while in session.

Please be sure to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during class.

Our YMCA has employment requirements that state that all staff: • are certified in First Aid and CPR; • undergo Criminal Record Checks; • undergo Child Abuse Registry Checks; • provide at least three references; • remain committed to ongoing professional development and continuing education, and; • are passionate about supporting you in reaching your heart health goals!

Woodlawn United Church – Heritage Centre 54 Woodlawn Road Dartmouth, NS B2W 2S1 Tuesday and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

YMCA Change of Heart Fees 12 Week Session - $75.00 plus HST

After Joining

After joining YMCA Change of Heart, you will be asked to fill out a client information sheet. This information sheet will provide YMCA Staff the information about you and any health-related conditions that you may have.
