DEAR Y FAMILY,

The hallmarks of a thriving Y are strong community support, solid operating fundamentals and an unrelenting focus on missiondriven growth to improve the lives of all in spirit, mind and body.

We made significant strides in these areas in 2024, setting the stage for an even greater impact in the years to come.

Thanks to the commitment of community partners and donors, we were able to expand our impact as we:

Served more kids and families in Y Summer Camp

Enhanced literacy efforts during our Healthy Kids Day events

Offered “pre-hab” services for cancer patients before and during their treatments.

Our partnerships were also pivotal to our progress. Through collaborations, we’ve envisioned an expanded presence in Lake County, repurposed unused land in Orange County, reinvested in our facilities, and restructured our financial backing to better align with our needs and goals.

As we look toward the year ahead, our purpose fuels our commitment to amplify our impact. With a foundation of operational excellence, we will introduce new programs that take our mission where there are no Ys while continuing to expand our free, community-wide healthy living events. We’ll also expand our network of healthcare partners to make preventative healthcare more accessible to all.

We consider it a privilege and a responsibility to serve our community, but we can’t do it alone. We need you to help open doors and to share the good work of the Y with others who can support our mission and our vision. We invite you to join us as volunteers, donors, partners and advocates in advancing this critical work for the good of all in Central Florida.

Together. Stronger. Forward.

In 2024, the YMCA of Central Florida continued our commitment to providing opportunities for all community members in every stage of life.

According to a study by the National Institutes of Health, overall wellness is key to getting and staying healthy as a person grows older. Participation in social activities by seniors can help prevent isolation and loneliness and is associated with healthier outcomes.

The YMCA provides social opportunities ranging from health seminars to group training classes and sewing circles.

found connection and activity to lead healthy lives

In 2024, the Y introduced three new community events inspired by Healthy Kids Day, each designed to expand our reach and showcase the collective impact of our partner network. Offered free of charge, these quarterly events focus on celebrating and advancing health within specific audiences: healthy adults, healthy kids, healthy families and healthy seniors.

Children and teens are better able to reach their full potential by cultivating the values, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. By building confident kids today, the Y helps assure they grow into contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

TOGETHER

At the Y, every child’s potential is nurtured. Thanks to caring Child Development Center teachers like Rhian at the J. Douglas Williams YMCA, Aliyah found a place to grow, learn and thrive—showing the powerful impact we make together in our community.

While our programs are based on the unique needs and interests of our communities, every Y has one thing in common: our people. The members, volunteers, staff, and donors of the Y are all united by a deep commitment of strengthening community.

EMPOWERING PINE HILLS YOUTH THROUGH AFFORDABLE SUMMER PROGRAMS

In 2024, the Wayne Densch YMCA launched a $55 weekly day camp featuring arts, STEM, sports and swim lessons. Funded by a $25,000 Heart of Florida United Way gift, the camp provided safe, affordable summer care for kids and vital support for working families in Pine Hills.

The LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program is a free, 12-week initiative designed to help adult cancer survivors rebuild strength, quality of life and community post-treatment. Through personalized physical activity and emotional support, participants improve their overall well-being in a safe, supportive environment. This life-changing program is made possible thanks to generous contributions to our Annual Giving Campaign, ensuring that survivors and caregivers can participate at no cost.

SAFETY AROUND WATER

No matter the age, swimming is a vital skill. Whether ensuring people of all ages know how to survive in emergency situations or enjoying a break from the Florida sun with a refreshing swim, the YMCA’s aquatics programs have a profound impact on the Central Florida community.

Apart from group and private swimming lessons, the YMCA’s Safety Around Water (SAW) programs aim to eliminate drowning through basic swim skills through community partnerships such as schools, community rec departments and other organizations. The Y’s size and reach uniquely positions the organization to bridge the gap in the delivery of water safety education.

DROWNING PREVENTION FOR HOMELESS YOUTH

Partnering with the Coalition for the Homeless, the YMCA provided free water safety classes in 2024 for children experiencing homelessness. Over eight weeks, kids gained life-saving skills like floating and treading water, helping prevent drowning and building confidence. Since its inception three years ago, 75 children have participated, gaining confidence and life-saving abilities.

FORWARD

Thirteen scholarships were awarded to local Central Florida high school students through the Arthur “Pappy” Kennedy Prayer Breakfast, which the Y hosts annually in partnership with the City of Orlando’s MLK Commission, the Southwest Orlando Jaycees, and the Kennedy family. These inspiring students excel in academics, leadership and community service, overcoming financial barriers in pursuit of higher education.

Check out this behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot they directed and produced—a powerful reminder that they’re already shaping their own futures.

The Y continues to serve as a community leader in health and wellness by providing education and opportunities around physical activity, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. In providing mindful and engaging programming, out of school enrichment, and early learning education, the Y helps all community members achieve a healthy mind, body, and spirit.

EARLY LEARNING PROGRAMS

Starting at the infant level, youth in the YMCA’s Early Learning Programs (0-5), are introduced to daily instruction that focuses on routines and experiences. As an important first-step in the path to educational progression and Kindergarten readiness, early learning activities are designed to meet the growth and developmental needs of each child with a whole-child approach.

Whether through cultivating leadership, encouraging a culture of service, helping them with college prep or ensuring they’re equipped with workforce skills, the YMCA ensures all teens receive an equitable opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
