CAMP OK-WA-NESSETT

Preschool Programs TENDERFOOT Being a part of the YMCA Camp experience provides children with growth-filled opportunities to EXPLORE and DISCOVER in a safe and nurturing environment.

Our camp program provides the traditional fun summer experiences, like swimming, boating and archery, with a focus on achievement, belonging and relationship building.

Our positive staff role models are trained to encourage inclusion, nurture uniqueness, and cultivate fun moments by engaging our campers.

Camp Ok-Wa-Nessett is located on the grounds of the Kent County YMCA in Warwick. Serving children ages 3-14, the camp is situated on over 100 beautifully wooded acres with miles of hiking trails, ponds, Splash Pad, archery ranges, basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds, covered pavilions for rainy days and so much more!

SCRIBBLES

Ages 3 & 4 Campers will explore their creative side in our Scribbles camp! Our little scribblers will learn about colors, shapes, textures and more while working on fine and gross motor skills.

SHORT SPORTS

Ages 3 & 4 Kick off your child’s summer with this camp designed for the energetic preschooler. Children will play a variety of sports and games designed to increase self-esteem while introducing sportsmanship and gross motor skill development. Half the day will be focused on sports, with the other half giving campers a chance to experience traditional camp activities.

Ages 3 & 4 This traditional day camp lets the youngest campers experience new adventures through discovery and play. Activities include water games, outdoor play, arts and crafts, group games, literacy and dramatic arts activities. Each week features a different theme. Must be toilet trained.

Entering Kindergarten Pio Jr campers will spend fun-filled days involved in traditional camp activities, creative art experiences, games and exploration. Campers will have the chance to work on improving their social and emotional skills in a supportive and safe environment. Each day brings something new and exciting in Pio Jr. Camp!

PIO-JR AQUA/SPORTS

Entering Kindergarten Looking to amp up the summer camp fun? These camps are designed to allow campers to immerse themselves in something they are passionate about. Campers will spend half the day enjoying traditional camp activities such as archery, arts & crafts and nature. The other half of the day will be spent focused on either water activities (PioJr. Aqua) or sports activities (PioJr. Sports).

PRIMARY COLORS

Entering Kindergarten Get creative, get messy, and have fun creating art! Explore and experiment with a variety of art mediums and activities. Be prepared to explore art in different forms and create masterpieces of your own.

DISCOVERY AQUA/ARTS/SPORTS

School Age Programs PIONEER

Entering Grade 1 This traditional outdoor day camp gives campers the opportunity to explore and develop their own interests through a variety of camp activities. Art, active play, music, swimming, and more will fill their day.

Campers will gain independence as well as learn responsibility and working together as a group through team building opportunities.

PIO AQUA/ARTS/SPORTS

Entering Grade 1 Looking to amp up the summer camp fun? These camps are designed to allow campers to immerse themselves in something they are passionate about. Campers will spend half the day enjoying traditional camp activities such as archery, arts & crafts and nature. The other half of the day will be spent focused on either water activities (Pio Aqua), creative arts activities (Pio Arts) or sports activities (Pio Sports).

EXPLORER

Entering Grades 2-4 This traditional outdoor day camp includes all the best camp activities such as archery, sports, hiking, recreational swimming, Ga Ga ball, creative and performing arts, as well as our Spray Park! There will be opportunities for campers to challenge themselves and build lasting relationships through our character development components and team building opportunities throughout the camp day!

EXPLORER AQUA/ARTS/SPORTS

Entering Grades 2-4 Looking to amp up the summer camp fun? These camps are designed to allow campers to immerse themselves in something they are passionate about. Campers will spend half the day enjoying traditional camp activities such as archery, arts & crafts and nature. The other half of the day will be spent focused on either water activities (Explorer Aqua), creative arts activities (Explorer Arts) or sports activities (Explorer Sports).

DISCOVERY

Entering Grades 5-6 Campers will have the opportunity to explore a variety of traditional camp activities such as arts & crafts, swimming, archery, games, team building, and our Spray Park! Our focus on skill development and relationship building, will help your child make new friends, develop independence, and try new things!

Entering Grades 5-6 Looking to amp up the summer camp fun? These camps are designed to allow campers to immerse themselves in something they are passionate about. Campers will spend half the day enjoying traditional camp activities such as archery, arts & crafts and nature. The other half of the day will be spent focused on either water activities (Discovery Aqua), creative arts activities (Discovery Arts) or sports activities (Discovery Sports).

DANCE CAMP (2 WEEKS)

Entering Grades 2-6 Get your dance on this summer at dance camp! This camp is open to all dancers, boys and girls, from beginner to advanced levels. Campers will learn dances, choreograph to music and much more as they prepare for their final performance in front of the whole camp and their families.

THEATER CAMP (2 WEEKS)

Entering Grades 2-6 Calling all future actors and actresses! Learn role playing, set design, acting, theatre direction, and improvisation. Get imaginative with your costumes, make new friends and rejoin old ones. End each session of Theatre with a production put on for all of Camp Ok-Wa-Nessett to see.

BACKWOODS CAMP

Entering Grades 2-6 Campers develop skills in this exciting, hands-on outdoor camp! Learn how to work with and rely on nature and survive in the great outdoors. Hiking, swimming, fort building, orienteering, boating and fire building are just a few of the activities that you can expect to participate in. This traditional outdoor camp program focuses on outdoor living and playing.

ADVENTURE CAMP

Entering Grades 5-8 Are you ready for sun, fun, and adventure? Ready to hit the road in search of a good time? Climb on board the bus and see all that this region has to offer! Scheduled trips may include Mulligans Island, McCoy Stadium, Water Wiz, Lazergate and Battleship Cove. Enrollment is limited‌ don’t be left behind. Additional fees apply. LIT (Leaders in Training)

Entering Grades 7-9 Recognizing that middle school students can get more out of a summer camp program, our LIT participants learn teamwork oriented leadership.

Working together on a variety of projects, our staff and LITs form a mentoring relationship. We coach our LITs, providing feedback and insight into their efforts on the different tasks they take on. A hiking trip, onsite leadership workshops, and activity instruction are just a few of the important tools our staff use to teach campers what it means to be a leader.

VOYAGERS

Entering Grades 7-8 Voyagers Camp is the ultimate summer camp experience for middle schoolers. Social time for building friendships and opportunities to explore traditional camp activities, like archery, outdoor education and canoeing, at a more advanced level keeps campers active and engaged as they enjoy a fun-filled week. With a concentration on community, teamwork and communication, Voyager campers spend their summer mastering skills while creating memories and friendships that can last a lifetime.
